Quote from The Very End :(...) It seems to me (by wild guessing) that the desvs rather do the easy stuff now, adding languages and some nifty codes here and there (...)

Let's not forget the steering wheel gauge that now has anti-aliasing!!!

Quote from tiagolapa :Iracing and rF are not crap. Both have things I wish we had in LFS, but we dont.

Agreed. Both far surpass LFS in many aspects, but they lack other things that LFS does have. Simply saying they're both crap reeks of fanboyism and makes you look a fool.

Quote from danowat :They USED to be the best option cost wise, but considering the MASSIVE hike in Diesel prices (which are the same, or similar in most of Europe too), the cost differential has now become negligable.

I disagree. While the price of diesel at the pump is almost the same as that of petrol (still about € 0,50 cheaper per litre) you have to take into account that you can do a lot longer with each tank. Still the cheapest choice without a doubt, at least over here. That's why around 90% of the cars here are diesels. Petrols are for the rich who don't have to worry about paying for fuel

Quote from tristancliffe :Well, they're not exactly good for performance, they're not exactly good for the environment, and they cost more to own and run in the long term (generally). They became very popular in the late 90s and early 00s, but petrol engines have been improving at a rate that will ensure diesels won't be a popular choice for most cars for much longer.

Well, you're talking about the UK. Over here diesels are the cheaper choice, as diesel costs less than petrol at the pump and you get significantly better mileage. I'm not going to debate the performance arguments, I'm not falling into that trap As for the environment, modern diesel engines are generally as clean - or even cleaner - than comparable petrol engines

Quote :While petrodiesel's higher density results in higher greenhouse gas emissions per litre compared to gasoline, the 20–40% better fuel economy achieved by modern diesel-engined automobiles offsets the higher per-litre emissions of greenhouse gases, and a diesel-powered vehicle emits 10-20 percent less greenhouse gas than comparable gasoline vehicles.

EDIT: I'd very much like to see petrol engines become the better and wiser choice, but as things stand now I'd be inclined to go with a diesel engine if I were to buy a car.

Quote from tristancliffe :(...) (you bought a Diesel? Poor you, they're so 1990s) (...)

Lol, typical petrolhead comment Diesel still is a far more effective fuel than petrol, no matter how you look at it. You may not like 'em, but that's entirely down to personal preference.

Quote from BlueFlame :Got offended that someone on the internet said a few names? I didn't even directly call you anything, so you manufactured the whole thing. Guess you don't know what a simile is.

You didn't use a smiley in that post And I have to admit it was quite offending for no reason. It's not like he's been going on about the windows on every page.

It would be nice if you could post your pc specs so the people here can get a better idea of what might be the problem. What kind of CPU, how much memory, what kind of graphics card etc...

And perhaps also say on what settings you're running LFS. What resolution, AA/AF etc.

Seeing as you only experience the problem when there are a lot of cars on the screen it makes me think that it's either your CPU or your graphics card that can't handle the game. But there are other people who know a lot more than me about this kind of stuff, I'm sure they'll help you out

Chances are they're not even playing LFS but some other game, some shooter or something Maybe they just found your Vent server somehow and decided that'd be a good way to communicate with each other

It's sad that people are afraid to venture into online racing in LFS. People shouldn't be afraid, no matter what their abilities are, as long as they are sensible drivers.

Typhirion, are you sure the message said you needed a 1:07 to drive on the server? Because many servers running Airio display messages saying you need a certain time in order to be displayed in the top 10 list (or something along those lines). That doesn't mean you can't drive there if you're slower, just that you won't be in the top 10. If a server requires you to have a certain laptime in order to drive there you will get kicked out if you don't meet the conditions, rest assured So I think you can just keep driving on the Fox Junkies server to improve your skills.

Just keep practising and maybe watch some faster drivers. Don't worry if you can't get down to their laptimes, some drivers are very fast while others are slow. There's no shame in that and it definitely shouldn't prevent you from having fun online. If you don't feel comfortable racing a particular car try joining a different server where people drive different cars.

Quote from zeugnimod :But to say that the majority of people who use chase view and/or use the paddles to shift are wreckers/unfair drivers is ridiculous, don't you think?

Yes, but that's not what he said, like I tried to point ou in my previous post

Every sparrow is a bird. Not every bird is a sparrow.

"Every" crasher/wrecker uses chasecam with a cheap wheel. Not everyone who uses chasecam with a cheap wheel is a crasher

Of course not every crasher uses chasecam, but I think it's safe to assume that the majority of people who have no intention on racing cleanly use chasecam and don't have a G25.

Shocking, isn't it?

Every sparrow is a bird. But that does not mean that every bird is a sparrow.

If you understand what I'm saying

Quote from ACCAkut :interesting topic

what I always wanted to know, is there a brand with the Reverse left of 1st, like the VAG cars have it?

R 1 3 5

2 4 6

Sure, plenty of cars have it. Opel, Renault, BMW and the New Mini. Don't know about the other French brands but it wouldn't surprise me if they have it like that as well.

Quote from danthebangerboy :In case anyone doesn't know what people mean when they say 'dogleg' gearbox, i have added a picture, but i cant remember where reverse was so i left that out.

Ah, thanks, I had no idea what you were on about Didn't Ferrari use to have those kind of gearboxes as well? I seem to recall the Testarossa has such a gearbox, but I may be mistaken.

And I think reverse was all the way top left, but further left than 1st gear.

EDIT:

EDIT2, from Wikipedia:

Quote :Dog leg layout gearboxes are usually found on performance automobiles because in road racing it is rare to shift into first gear other than for the initial start or exiting a pit lane.

Quote from pasibrzuch :If I am correct profiler keep your settings in registry. Simple reg reader could work here.
Or Devs can get in touch with Logitech to make LFS and Profiler a friends

The problem is not everyone uses Logitech wheels and not everyone uses the same Profiler. Hell, a lot of people don't even have the profiler installed! Although I'm sure in those cases the FFB settings are still stored in the registry somewhere.

Quote from [DUcK] :To top that off, use a low degree of rotation in your wheel setting so you can quickly correct too much oversteer, and voila! You're fast! It's easy.

I'll assume that you were joking with this statement, as that is exactly the point of this thread

Quote from Mille Sabords :A bit more fuel in there...
Our server weekly combo is set to FZ5 / SO4, tough one.
1 hour race tonight, sounds like a good workout and throttle control challenge.

However I've found out that most of the drivers will use ABS + TC. It makes this combo so tame that it is possible to mash the loud pedal exiting turns, no risks, tyres in perfect condition while late braking downhill for the hairpin before the straight... even under the bridge it brings stability.

If I pick the "hairy" option and get rid of the assits as I usually do, I am sure I will not be competitive and may not even finish the race. I will also be more unpredictable on track, less close racing.

What would you do?

I'd use TC + ABS, but I'm not doing the race tonight I already use ABS in all cars that have it. TC depends on the combo, I tend to leave it off most of the time and just turn it on to save the tyres a bit.

Good luck!

Quote from SharkBite :So you think these files are for previous versions of LFS?

I believe so. The one you're referring to was added in 2007 so that was definitely for an older version. I don't know if it's still possible to change the steering wheel in the current patch. I thought that was changed when we got the updated interiors a while back.

Quote from SharkBite :Hi,

I am trying to download a wheel skin, but i cannot get it to work.
I downloaded and installed-overwrote the 2 .dds files in my lfs/data/dds folder but when i load the game the wheel is still in the original skin, in every car.
What am i doing wrong?

For which car exactly are you trying to download a wheel skin? I seem to recall it wasn't possible for every car or something.
