Quote from deggis :Yup, it's annoying. For MRT I usually use virtual display, which sucks because it's distracting.

For MRT I turn off drawing the wheel (options -> view -> draw driver/wheel). Sucks too, but not as much as virtual display

Quote from Scawen :Regular progress reports are a long requested thing, but unfortunately it doesn't really work that way. It's best to just report when we actually have something interesting to report.

Because progress reports are another of these things that often cause great anger, if the report is about the development of something that some racers aren't waiting for (so our priorities are all wrong) or three weeks have been spent on a new editor function (often perceived as entirely pointless). Or, if we have been experimenting for weeks on something that may or may not be released, then it would be a near fatal mistake to mention it... we know what happens if we say "one day this new feature may possibly be implemented" - then it somehow becomes something we have promised! So we can't ever mention anything unless it's in the almost complete stage.

The only way forward with progress reports, is to make one when we have something interesting to say. Those intermediate things that some people would be interested in, aren't actually very interesting and only cause anger with some other people, due to the apparently slow pace of software development, when viewed by an external observer.

Quote from Scawen :No, sorry, there won't be anything this year.

In about November, we hoped to be able to get something together for Christmas, a minor physics update and a new config in one of the tracks. But in fact it became clear that would take too long... no-one really wants a minor physics update with bugs in it. They want a very well tested physics update, including aero and tyres.

Personally, i have been finishing my kitchen which has been in a half-completed state for seven years. Always considering tyre physics and so on, to get on with it in January.

Quote from bobvanvliet :Also, a small change in tyre pressure or camber usually does the trick of helping it though a couple more laps.

Hm, since I'm a noob in the setup business: In what way do you change tyre pressure/camber to make tyres last longer?

MUHAHAHAHA! If you're ever in Norway, give me a call and I'll give you a ride to show you "tiny amount of time at WOT"

(but no, I dont care about that stupid "ptttsshhhhh"-sound, so i've got no BOV)

Quote from Victor :@nikka - I did not do the chart indication. This would cause a massive impact on our db, so I can't do that. Instead, if you really want to have chart positions, there is something you can do now that the hl_log has been added, namely, you can create your own exact copy of the entire hotlaps db, so you can calculate chart positions yourself.
You can do this by requesting all hotlap charts once and store those. Then all you have to do is make use of the new hl_log, which returns all the new hotlaps. You add these to your own db and you'll always be up to date.

BTW, thanks for the update! My goal was to minimize the number of db requests, so this should work just fine

Quote from Anarchi-H :I think a separated list of usernames for PB and PST with separate tarpits of at least a minute would make a lot more sense, especially considering that the majority of users for the lfsworld data seem to be teams.

Wow, was just writing a simular request when you beat me to it..

The way I do it today (see http://noobs.vossmedia.de/stats.php (not finished btw, still working on it)) is quite... complex since I have to do one hl/pst/pb-request at a time with a 5 sec delay. Being able to retrieve hl/pb/pst for multiple racers in one request would make life waaaay easier..

Quote from thisnameistaken :Not wanting to hijack, but: I did the whole professional chef thing for a few years, until I finally went nuts and had to pack it in and take a year off to recuperate (seriously!). As much as I hated it, I am at least glad I learned to cook well in the process.

Cooking's a great social skill, food makes people happy, chemically and psychologically, especially when somebody else goes to the trouble of making it for them. It's well worth learning to do it well.

Oh ok, since we have a chef here, let's settle this once and for all: Is preparing a bacon sandwich considered cooking?

hey!

It would be great if the action=hl also could return the position on chart.

Now I have to do a action=ch for each combo action=hl returnes to find the chart position. Obviously a lot of bandwith/scrip calls wasted.

Any chance this could be implemented?

Vote to restart when two racers
nikka
S2 licensed
Ey!

When there are only two racers on the track, votes from BOTH players should be required for the race to restart..

(hate it when i'm alone on a server and got a really good split, and some moron connects and immediately leaves the pit and votes to restart)

Oh well.

Hey folks!

What are the possible error messages the '?action=hl', '?action=pb' and '?action=pst' may return?
I need to know because I'm working on a script that needs to know if I have to retry or not.

The ones I got:
'can't reload this page that quickly after another'
'hl: no hotlaps found'
'pb: racer has no pbs'
'pb: no valid username'
'pst: no valid username'

Guess there also are some messages indicating problems with the lfsworld server/database or something.

Victor? Anyone?

When an admin changes cars on a server, people should not be able to drive with the previous selected cars anymore.

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature, but it's quite annoying anyways...

Quote from Stealthy04 :i got banned last night for the first time in a long while, it was Reih-Main-Racer.de server. there was a team called [noob] in there and we was racing fox on blgp. coming down the end of the straight and i was slightly ahead of the guy on the inside, and i thought i had enough room to go wide but i didnt and we crashed.

the guy said my name then called me an idiot and banned me, with out giving me any chance to say sorry!

quite a shame as its a good server, but too bad nublets run it!

That must have been [noobs] speedway. He is in a pretty bad mood these days because he just realized I'm faster than him (and I really suck, so I can somehow understand his frustration)

I dont have admin rights on that server, but I'll talk to them, and I'm pretty sure we can figure this out.

Hope to see you there again soon!

"Accept list" on private servers
nikka
S2 licensed
Hi!

Just a small suggestion for private servers:
You (as admin) could somehow define the users who are accepted, and these users can log into that server without using a password.

This would be very useful when arranging races, because instead of emailing (or whatever) the password to every racer, you can just add those who signed up for the race to the "accept list", and they dont need a password to log in.
(This would of course not apply to demo servers since there is no such thing as user names there)

Hope this made any sence since my brain already went to bed (and my fingers are just about to join it, don't worry ).
