A little bit. In fact I'm glad you posted this because they seem to vary. On some combinations they are just retarded, but on others... I have some UFRs on KY2 that I can hardly get close to. I thought I was just crap at that combination, but this gives me hope
Ebisu is really a complex of different circuits, but the main one has the start/finish just over the crest of a hill - simple layout, but a few blind bends and some dramatic elevation changes make it interesting.
OT EDIT: Yeah, that's Cleveland you're thinking of... How wide?!!
I always liked Sugo, with that steep incline, a near double apex turn, then that rush downhill... Reminds me a bit of Brands. And Ebisu too... I'm no expert, only ever been to Japan once, but the thing that struck me is that its actually a very rural country and the circuits tend to be narrow, twisty, with lots of elevation changes. In this respect KY is very out of character.
I don't know if this kind of thing ever works - in Racer there were cars with tinted windows and all it ever did was make the track darker and harder to see. It was an annoying effect that anyone interested in driving (instead of admiring the cleverness) got rid of as soon as possible.
When looking at a computer screen your eyes don't focus beyond the muck or adjust to the tint, because everything is happening on the same plane - its a two-dimensional image no matter how real you imagine it to be. For me, this type of effect is always a barrier to immersion.
Oh, there were a few posts about the contest, but I don't understand it all. Never been a fan of kitsch or the "its so bad, its great" type of thing. There's so much really good music that people don't hear. The link I posted was a Turkish psychedelic band from the seventies. Far more deserving of being a song for Europe I think.
As for Fela - I think he knew it would have destroyed everything he'd built to be seen giving anyone a backhander. He was at war.
Ok, part of my job is preparing presentations for people who have somehow made it through life with zero aesthetic or technical ability (how they've managed that and still make more money than me is one of life's mysteries)
So, someone comes in yesterday and says they want a "world music type tune" to accompany their latest font-fest. Part of me dies 'cause its a clear case of cultural appropriation that I'm about to collude with, but another part thinks "Here's a valid opportunity to spend my working hours listening to music."
Thinking that a twenty-minute funk workout on the subject of Nigerian corruption (Fela Kuti, the only cd I have in the office that might come close) is not what he's looking for, I begin trawling through some MP3 blogs.
Had an hour or two spare this evening so started a skin for the XRT. Based it on Alexander Calder's design for the BMW csl that raced at Le Mans in 1975. The car broke a drive shaft and didn't finish the race, but started a tradition within BMW
The XRT is a different shape altogether so I've had to adapt it a bit. Anyway, its a WIP so I may change a few things yet...
Another poster idea: crowded scene, people waiting on a railway platorm, some with green and multicoloured user names above their heads. Title: We live for speed.
General question about rafs: is it possible to get them out of a replay without using the output button? I like to compare practice laps in sequence to see where the inconsistencies are occuring and reoccuring. LFS turns that into hard work: run a replay; output raf; stop replay ('cause there's no rewind); fast forward; output lap; repeat ad infinitum - frustrating.
It would be nice to dig into the replay and extract the necessary data in one go....
Yeah, Tristan knows what he's talking about here... BTCC has operated under different rules from other Touring car championships for the last few years (maybe in a conscious bid to pull an audience from the 'lad mag' brigade). Hence the cars sprouted aerofoils and whatnot, and contact was officially tolerated as a racing tactic. This year BTCC will be running under the 'Super 2000' rules that govern the WTCC.
To be honest I haven't really followed BTCC since Frank Sytner was campaigning a BMW, but the few races I have seen always elicited a laugh. It was one of the few events that my non-racing friends could tolerate to watch with me, because it was more of a spectacle. It worked well as a warm up event when it preceded the British Superbikes on the TV. That was the real deal as far as I was concerned, and having sat through the BTCC, it was always satisfying to have my mates gasping at a duel between Karl Harris and Leon Haslam or whatever, and suddenly seeing why I was so into the bikes.
Yeah, I like Kimi - I think it was Autosport who described him recently as the man who'll use a single word where twenty would do. There's something elegantly withering about his use of English. Its probably a front, and I sometimes wonder if he comes across similarly in his native tongue, but I still like it. Its the 'still waters' thing....
Not really a bumper sticker, but on my way to work this morning, I saw a frail old woman on a mobility scooter being given the "who do you think you are? Nigel Mansell?" treatment by a flak-jacketed copper.
In my head, he was saying "You pwned me on AS Nat last night, BUT WHO'S LAUGHING NOW, BIYATCH!!!"
