well, what about making better models and textures for the desired points by ourselfes?
we keep them in open formats like psd,raw,dxf,3ds and send some dashes "in" for approval.
If some of this community work is accepted, well, then it shouldn't be asked to much to be mentioned among the "early contributors".

I don't want a complete moddable Lfs, but i don't see why we can't try to help our devs in the process of perfecting a great sim?

When i look around, i see bright ideas of good work, some wanted, some too early, some really helpful.
spare me flames about not getting mentioned here, most of you will have at least 3 examples of "add-ons" for lfs which aren't in the "default" package.

So, why souldn't we stand up for our sim? And act...?

think about a real tarmac photographed from let's say not 1m height but 3m height.
result would be a higher res looking pic due to smaller tarmac grains... thats what i've meant.

Its normal that textures get unsharp when they are that near to the camera... what do you expect?? You would need 4 times the res to make it look a bit better, which makes 16 times the filesize illepall

the how about just decreasing the size of the grains instead increasing the res?

would be better, cause it'll be quite too easy to circumvent the license system using a S2 server without a proper licensensed lfs-client

you mean settings like these?

but the dynamic Lod slider doesn't make any difference between 0.00 and 1.00

and for the frame rates, i let them limit to ca.50 cause i think they are enough, and the minimum sleep saves some CPU time for V-dub for example.

Try to play with these settings while watching a long and well filled race-replay, while in window-mode and watch the Threads-performance drain go lower, but without loosing too much frames...

Well, with your ugly fps I would rather reduce the settings. You have only one car and almost no scenery, and already unter 50 fps. In an average race you will not get more than 30 fps, which is unplayable.

1. i'm running on lowered speed while not playing serious, to reduce energy waste.
2. the fps wasn't my concern, and anyways let this be my problem...

/thread hijack...

2 pics, same scene, car moved aprox 4 meters forwards, the detail i'm talking about, dissapeared.

I mean the 2 clips wich (i think) lock the trunk-door closed.
While on duty, I think it's very annoying to always see then Dis/appear when in close Racing...

any idea for help, maybee using higher LOD values in *.cfg file?

speaking of textures, is there any possible way to let the "Cromowheel_grip.dds" texture look brighter in game?
cause mostly the wheel is quite dark, and thus the marking on the wheel is hardly spotable even if its white...

actually it does..

sometimes i have a hard time understanding these native "slang" type english talking people.
But it's nothing different then talking to a "nordfriese" as a "bayer" these 2 german-slangs are very different in pronunciation so these 2 people wouldn't understand each other despite the fact they are germans speaking german...

But back to topic:

I don't want to see "hurry-code" too, so i hope someday far in the future when i'm old and grey i'll see a lfs full version...(s2)

when you try to texture these imported lfs models... have fun.. very much work and the result is usually not the best..


You may be right depending how much time involved.
But how are we OTHERS (non 3dsmax users) supposed come to our models?
order them from the devs?

even old "scrap" tanks are expensive to prepare them to be "scrap" so old tanks here get into some museum and the rest get's taken apart.

Interessting viewpoint altough i've read about your circle.
But noone except the devs can say if their product is accurate or not, nontheless it's accurate enough to use it...
It doesn't matter if a problem was just found after it's introduction.
For me it looks like as if this aero thing was never really tought-to-the-end and yet to early to be brought to lfs.
Anyway i think the alpha state is still the best excuse/tag for lfs and it's dilema, of "work in progress".
Seriously i wish all the best and brightest ideas for the devs for their life-filling project, but you have to admit that their way of developing isn't the most productive in comparsion to open-source.
Sure i see your mentioned dowsides, but hey man it's just 1! (one) man coding (right?) so even if he would spend more time on the code instead of other important things his progress would still be very slow.

I don't want to paint the devil at the wall (german saying) but i wonder what would happen to Lfs if a serious attempt from another software house was made.
