Quote from Scatter :Thanks for the funny and serious suggestions! If anyone else has other solutions, I'd be happy to give it a go.

The things i mentioned in my post really are the best ways to get rid of these things, trust me. I used to do this for a living, so for the first time in three and a half years on this forum i do actually know what i'm talking about. Admittedly it's been ten years since i was a pest control officer and i've forgotten most of what i was taught, but, yunno

Seriously, short of a full fumigation (which will cost mega bucks and no legitimate company would do it to a residential house unless you had a severe case of termites chewing their way though the structure of the house) ant powder really is the best way to do it. The only way to get rid of them is to kill the Queen, and she NEVER leaves the nest. So stamping on a couple of dozen as they scurry across your kitchen floor or pouring boiling water on their heads ain't ever gonna get shot of the colony. They'll just go quiet for a while in the cold weather then re-emerge when it gets warmer.

Another thing, it's a bit of a misnomer to think that all these little bugs can only be found in dirty unkempt places with lots of food stuff lying around. Whilst having a dirty home doesn't help the situation, if there's any kind of food stuff in the house no matter how clean it is or well packed away these buggers will find it (although cockroaches are far worse than ants) Honestly, i've had to deal with ant and cockroach infestations in some of the cleanest places you could imagine. So don't go telling your Mum her house is a dump, know what i mean

The only way to stop them is by either finding and removing the nest (but seeing as most colonies build their nests in the foundations of houses it could be a bit tricky to dig up), or, try to find some ant powder (bendiocarb tends to be the best if you can find it, but the stuff sold over the counter usually ain't as strong as a professional pest control officer would carry).
If you can find the powder it's a simple case of covering the entry/exit holes into the house and along their runs (i.e watch them and see where they go and come from). The poison is a slow release agent that kills them several hours after ingestion, so the idea is they die in the nest. Ants being "a bit cannibalistic" means the live ones will usually eat the dead ones thereby spreading the poison throughout the colony, and eventually it dies out. It can take some time but it's the only sure fire way of getting rid of them. Unless you really do wanna hire a JCB and rip yer house apart.

There are little electronic repellent type devices on the market that emit an inaudible sound that all these critters don't like (including, rats, mice, birds, cats, dogs, children) But i've heard mixed reactions to their effectiveness, and they can be pricey too.

Best go for the ant powder.

Wow, i thought i didn't do so well, what with the Fezza's and he Macca's being so crap, and with Bourdais stalling on the grid. But i managed to move up 3 places to 6th. I'm still skint though, so i don't expect to be in that position for too long.

Anyway, a winter fantasy league ? The problem is there ain't that many global winter events. Suppose there's the Champions league or the Rugby season (SIx Nations). But that's gonna kinda exclude anyone outside of Europe. Is there a fantasy league for skiing or golf, they'll be fun

Quote from Hyperactive :Now as for the biggest cock, we really need to settle this. I won't accept names like kidcodea or phlos, we need a more current championship for it.

Sounds like that should be included in the end of year awards ceremony. 'The biggest cock in LFS' award

Anyway onto the race: I'm really made up for Vettel, he was definitely the star of the show this weekend and fully deserved his victory. It was such a shame about Bourdais stalling on the grid, apparently his laptimes we're almost as quick as Vettels so he may have had a chance of a podium finish.

As for Hamilton, i think we say many sides of his character yesterday. He was piss poor at the start of the race tbh, but then suddenly woke up and put in a world class performance. If it hadn't been for the weather not doing what it was supposed to do then he may well have taken the win. However, some of his actions on track were overly aggressive and bordering on dangerous at times. If i were Charlie Whiting i'd be having a stern word or two in his shell like before the next race. I'm surprised he didn't have a go at Massa in the last few laps, but perhaps his tyres were shot to pieces at that stage so perhaps he showed a bit of maturity by backing off and settling for the points, we'll see.

As for the Ferrari's, man they look a nightmare in the wet, tbh they probably did well to finish where they did. If it is gonna rain in Singapore - a new street circuit, at night, under floodlights - i wouldn't be surprised if neither car gets any points !!. Lets hope for rain then

All in all it was a damn fine race, and i'm really pleased i wasn't so outraged by Hamiltons penalty at Spa that i vowed to never watch another Grand Prix again like some folk in here did....

Dammit, guess i'll have to go pay my bills now....Bloody scientists.

Apparently it's gonna take a while to get this thing up to full speed. So if it is gonna create a huge all consuming end of the universe stylie black hole, it seems like Switzerland's got about another 4yrs before it suddenly vanishes from the face of the earth. And at least another 8yrs before anyone notices.

Quote from tristancliffe :Race - At the start I sped off into the lead, and after 6 laps it was around 25 seconds. But it was by now raining very heavily, and visibility on my own was bad enough. Backmarkers were throwing up even more spray, so I just couldn't see without going offline. Despite being about 20 seconds per lap slower than me (and me going at his speed because I was stuck behind him) I aquaplaned off on a river running down the circuit and hit the tyre wall.

:hihi::banghead: :haha:

Quote from tristancliffe : The datalogger says it was 3.01g on impact, with a jerk of 24.5g/s (if that means anything to you), which is a new record for me!

That sounds like a lot of G's but didn't look like such a big hit on the vid. And to be honest it's not easy to see what caused the spin ? Lose it on braking ? Guess the main thing is you weren't hurt

Quote from tristancliffe : Fortunately, my main championship rival only finished 6th in class, and his 7 points weren't enough for him to stay in contention in the championship. So I am now 2008 Monoposto Classic 2000 Champion! Woot!

:static: :trophy_si :throwrose:trophy_si :static: Bravo, genuinely pleased for ya.

I'll admit i've kinda lost track of where you are with this thing, but isn't this only your second season in motorsport ? Not bad, not bad at all. Got to say i was really impressed with your car control in that vid. Nasty weather conditions on a track that takes no prisoners and you managed to keep it on the island....oh no, that's not right is it

Quote from tristancliffe : The downside is that the damage was too great to repair in time for Sunday, so instead I acted as general helper - pushing people to the assembly area, and making sure they had their slave batteries plugged in if needed. But it was depressing to be on the static side of the pitwall

Now you know how the rest of us feel when we hear what you've been up to in your racing car. Sucks, dunnit...

We're not jealous at all, not in the slightest

Quote from G!NhO :WTH please someone explain what this thing is???

As far as i can tell, it's a hugely expensive machine who's sole purpose is to manufacture little plastic disposable razors that painlessly removes the outer layer of skin from our perfectly groomed yet manly faces so we can attract beautiful women, and get laid....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04G5mJ8O-VE allegedly

The video clip below was posted earlier in this thread but no one seemed to pick up on it's relevance.

If all you Hamilton haters are suggesting that Lewis fully deserved a 25sec penalty for going off track and gaining a sporting advantage, then by the same token these two should be due to start the 2008 Australian GP a fortnight come Sunday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... 5Ixas&feature=related

Anyway, enough of this bollocks, lets hear about this wall of yours Tristan

Quote from deggis :One could think Ferrari would have officially announced if that was the reason for the spin.

Looking at that vid posted by Chunky you can hear a sudden blip of revs just before he looses the back end. Its my guess his foot probably slipped or jerked a bit when he hit a bump in the run off area .

Anyway, to my mind Chunkys vid proves what most rational folk in here have been saying since yesterday afternoon. Lewis was hard done by and didn't deserve the penalty. Lets hope the result is amended.

Quote from swisscosmo :ok thx guys and know one more question do you guys know of and good realistic modern FPS games that you have to be tactical COD4 is to new for my comp cause it can't run it but games that are about 2 years old should work. i've already heard about AMerica's Army and ArmA and Operation Flashpoint

Quote from [UKR] Race King :COD2 or Brothers in Arms.

COD and Brothers in Arms arnt really tactical shooters to be honest. Although, all the COD games are pure class, Brothers in Arms ain't so good, but it is better than Medal of Honour.

Swisscommo, other than the ones you mention, take a look at Ghost Recon 1 and Hidden and Dangerous 2, both are more shoot-em-up based, but both have a strong tactical element and both are very realistic (as opposed to arcade style) Take a look at any of the other Tom Clancy games too, eg the Rainbow SIx series. Company of Heroes might be worth a look at, but its an RTS rather than an FPS game, so might not be what you're after.

Quote from Shotglass :oh and about the supposed ferrari bias since forever... did all of you completely forget about the 2005 season which was designed to stop schumachers dominance?

Yeah, but you do know the real reason for doing that, don't you ?

There used to be a saying that F1 was a business 5 days a week that became a sport every other weekend. (Please note the term "used to be" in the previous sentence)

Quote from zeugnimod :Hehe, no.

Even Trulli wasn't penalized for rejoining the track right in front of other drivers.

Hmmm, guess they didn't overtake any Fer.. nope, not gonna say it, don't wanna join in with any conspiracy theories.

Quote from Intrepid :I am just thinking back to Laguna Seca Stoner Vs Rossi and the corkscrew incident where Rossi ran off the track but held postion and possibly gained an unfair advan... oh sorry I got lost there. I must remind myself that MotoGP is PROPER racing where overtaking is not frowned upon by the stewards.... lol

With you on every word with that one.

Now who is the governing body that oversees Moto GP again ?

[edit] to answer Dave: Allen wasn't featured in the post race aftermath, infact it was quite noticeable in the language they used as to not cast any judgement on the decision. Although there was an underlying hit of cynicism and the inevitable question of how it reflects on the credibility of the sport. It'll definitely be worth keeping half on eye on the ITV F1 website this week. I'm really looking forward to hear Brundles views.

Nah, you're still 435 pts behind me, you've got no chance ...shite..you got the Maccas AND the Fezzas...

Dunno whats happened to poor old Hyperactive though, he seems to have lost the plot the last few races, unless he's been saving his cash to buy Mcl, Fer, Ham and Massa for the remaining races...think we'll have to keep an eye on that one.

Quote from tristancliffe :Some of the comments here are gold, especially from the Hamilton Fan Club.

As are some of the comments from the Hamilton Hate Club.

My 2p, the stewards decision was an utter disgrace and makes a complete mockery of what used to be called a sport. I can only hope an appeal is put in and the results are changed during this week. (if only to get a few more points on Zee)

I missed the live race so had to make do with the rather abbreviated highlights show on ITV, but did Rosberg get a drive through after he cut the chicane at the bus stop on the opening few laps ?

After "test driving" a stand-alone satnav system for a week or so (courtesy of Argos) I decided to go for a IPAQ pda with Tom Tom 5.'somethingorother' and a tiny little keychain gps receiver (it's a fantastic bit of kit, although it's being a bit of a bugger with connecting to my phone)

Anyway, i've been scanning the net and apparently there are loads of iPhone style interfaces for it (gui ?/ ui ?). This ones even free !! http://whoneedsaniphone.com/blog.asp and this ones not http://www.touch-commander.com/

Not had a chance to try em out yet, but judging by some of the vids on Truetube they look pretty good. Obviously it's never gonna be a real iPhone, but it seems like a much more intuitive way to navigate all the menus etc on the pda and you don't need to keep looking for the stylus down the back of the sofa every time you wanna use it.

But yeah, keep us informed of life with your iPorne

Quote from Jakg :but the point is that in the past people have got over 1,000 HP from a 1500 cc engine (admitedly turbo'ed).

Yeah, i mentioned that very fact earlier in this thread.

Some interesting facts for those interested:

The most powerful F1 engine was the BMW turbo engine used in the Brabhams back in the 80's. In qualifying trim they were alleged to produce a maximum output of 1,500bhp. And thats from a 1.5lt capacity !. But these weren't exactly state of the art lumps of metal straight off the production line of some microscopically clean F1 laboratory like todays engines. It was a 1969 4 cylinder BMW production engine taken from one of these. They had to reduce the capacity down from 2.0lt to 1.5, and they only ever used ones that had done over 100,000 miles. And apparently they used to leave them outside in the wind, rain and snow to case harden the cylinder heads as this was the only way they could be made strong enough to take the intense pressures they were put under. One quote from a BMW engineer was" they were like well hung meat". And, they had to use a special 'heavy' synthetic petrol (that was originally patented by the Nazi's for "war purposes") otherwise the engine would have been blown to bits.

These engines were used in cars with no traction control or any other fancy electronics. And in cars with skirts and without skirts.

You can see why some folk say todays F1 is a bit tame by comparison

Quote from Jakg :( 5.4 / 0.5 ) * 180

10.8 * 180 = 1,944

(That's 1,944 HP btw)

Well i did say it was over 900 bhp

But no. Going on George's claim that a 2.6 Wankel is like a 2 stroke engine, meaning it's equivalent to a 5.4lt capacity. So a 500cc GP bike with a 2 stroke engine would be like a 1lt 4 stroke engine (it's not, but, who the hell cares ?). Meaning, you extrapolate up to a 2.6 for the 500, but up to a 5.4 for a 1lt....ermm . Nah, confused myself there. It's all bollocks to be honest...
Mazz4200
S2 licensed
Well if you look at it that way, the old 2 stroke 500cc GP bikes were producing 180+ hp. So if extrapolate that up to 5.4lt (ish) thats over 900bhp....(i think, maths has never been my strong point)

But again back to the topic. Mazda have only continued to use and develop the rotary engine for marketing purposes, and maybe a touch of engineering prowess. Engineers can be funny like that sometimes, they're a weird bunch.

Slightly off topic, but does that new Furai use a Wankel engine ? will check..[quick edit] yes it does, it produces 450bhp, not sure of the capacity though, more checking needed..
