Quote from DeKo :Sounds like fun, it's a pity I'm absolutely terrible at Rally driving. I'm fine on the tarmac, but throw it off the road every time I see a bit of gravel

I used to be the opposite in RBR; Good on gravel, shite on Tarmac. Now I'm fairly competent on all kinds of surfaces unless they're really bumpy (Japan, One British stage, etc). I miss RBR Haven't played in weeks. I need to get my wheel over to my new condo.

Moved in with the GF... I don't forsee much RBR in my immediate future.

I'd love to get an online session in with you guys, though... Maybe I should setup RBR on my secondary drive with RSRBR just for that... Do you guys drive the 2011 WRC cars at all? That WRC Fiesta is a bloody riot!

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Also, it occurs to me that unless Alcohol is in some way, either no-one asks anyone out, or no-one says yes when they're asked out. Agree/Disagree?

I'm too lazy to discuss the other stuff you've written but I'd just like to address this point; if that's the case, everyone you know is just a pansy. My girlfriend ( <3 )and I were together for a month before we saw each other drunk. We had the "us" discussion while laying in my bed one night after we had been seeing each other for a couple weeks. No alcohol involved.

[EDIT] Oh yes, I hardly drink anymore. I don't find being drunk fun anymore, so now I just have a beer or two when the mood strikes me. I still love a good pint.

Nice work, particularly the shine on the treads. I think the Advan text might be a little too bright though.

Nice stuff

Quote from Crashgate3 :You should try building up the colours in layers. For example on that engine, paint the metal parts silver/gold as you have done. Then go over all the metal parts with thinned down black paint. This will run off the raised areas and sit in the hollows, picking out all the shadows for you.

Then, any parts that have had too much wash, you can go over again with the gold/silver.

Once that's dry, mix some white with the silver (for the silver parts), or some white/yellow with the gold (for the gold parts), and use these to highlight any raised edges.

It'll add some depth and make it look a million times better.

... I don't know why, but I've never thought about painting a model car with miniatures painting techniques. Sounds obvious now that you bring it up, though. ha

I haven't built a kit in years, but I did a lot when I was younger. Still have them at my folks' place. My favorite was a Hotwheels sponsored Trans-Am Camaro. Also have Ron Fellows' Sunoco one, but it's not built. Two other left in limbo were a 98 Nissan R390 GT-1 and a Dome NSX from the JGTC.

Most of my finished kits are less exciting cars, though...

I might buy it just for that!

Quote from NotAnIllusion :Someone *really* needs to make a metallic seq shifter that feels properly mechanical and can take a bit of a thrashing, it looks like the driver is fondling the stick.

Nice driving though.

Nice driving indeed.

I have my G25 setup with paddles for shifting and pulling back on the stick for the handbrake. I love it... it's just too bad I'm now not proper in my controls as the 2011 cars are back to sequential :S

I use the hood cam too, but CamHack fixes the horizontally stretched image which drastically changes the experience.

As an aside; if you're running a widescreen resolution, you'll have to fix the HUD positioning. I haven't done this myself, as I'm using the GranTurismo Gauges addon available from the same site as CamHack

There's a specific setting change you need to make in the CamHack files, too (the program needs to be run once, first, I think) but I don't recall off the top of my head what it is. It is resolution dependant, though, so the specific value you enter depends on your screen resolution.

[EDIT] French Instructions: http://forum.rallyesim.fr/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=510

Running it through an online translator should suffice for getting the idea across.

Quote from mrodgers :I've never seen a Ford rust. Then again, I've never seen a Ford mechanically sound long enough to worry about rust.

Toyotas rust, Nissans rust, Hondas rust because they are still running mechanically past 100,000 miles....

We used to have a 1990 Ford Taurus. When we got rid of it in late 98 it had some rust on the door sills IIRC. My folks replaced it with a 99 Sable... What a god-awful looking vehicle...

In any case, of the last 2 or 3 years, Fords are definitely the best domestics.

For downshifts you need to time your throttle blip properly, too. I frequently had issues with this timing for the first few weeks while I was driving it, too.

Blurb.com, alternatives and printing your own books

Has anyone here every gotten their own books printed? I need to redo my portfolio and I want to get it professionally printed a bound; none of this ugly cerlox or spiral binding crap.

Blurb.com is the cheapest I've found, and the results are good enough for a recent graduate's portfolio, but I really want to use spot gloss on my cover if I can. So far I've been unable to find a company that can do it. Blurb.com, Bobbooks, MyPublisher are all places I've looked at, and some more that I can't remember off hand, and none seem to be able to do spot gloss treatments.

Does anyone know of a company that can do this?

Quote from (SaM) :Some "Intelligent" people think they have it all figured out and aren't open to learning new things. They hardly listen and prefer to just tell everyone their opinion since it's the most important one in the world.

She's not, she's intelligent, but very open to new ideas. Which I love. I love debating my opinion and get new perspectives with people or just listen to their view when I have no idea myself.

Fantastic quality for someone to possess. I'm glad my girlfriend is the same

Quote from tristancliffe :There is a pretty good chance that if society suggests something, or if a majority want something, or if most people believe something (other than facts), then they are wrong.

Even facts are often wrong, we just don't know it yet I was once told by my Physics teacher that 90% of what we learn in school is wrong, we just don't know it yet.

...Doesn't bode well for our shitty education system. haha

It definitely looks better than the spy shots of it did, but that could just be photographer trickery.

And no, we definitely do NOT need this in LFS.

It's not showing up in my devices list (possibly because it's not plugged in) but I can't remember actually installing any drivers for it, tbh. The windows settings do more than enough for me, I don't need the bloat of the logitech profiler.

I might be mistaken, but I don't think I have any installed.

Quote from Fuse5 :hehe, impressive

im a sad panda
out of all those listed manufacturing technologies...
yeah, we have a lathe, woop woop.
not sure if its suitable for metalworking though x)
downside of having a small faculty in a small uni ;_;

I find the facilities at my school a little lacking, too, but we do have access to CNC and two types of 3D printing, which is nice. I didn't use the metal lathe at the school, I couldn't get it to hold the pipe in the chuck nicely. I had to use a smaller lathe that my dad's friend had. The ABS is really soft, needed something a little more delicate to hold it I guess haha

Quote from BlackEye :Oh my... I didn't even see a FB gallery link. I guess I saw a link, but assumed it's MS and didn't look properly.

Anyhoo, it looks even more awesome IRL.

Thanks mate

Hmm.. I haven't had that happen and I'm using a G25. Maybe have a look at Rallyesim forums? That seems to be the biggest RBR community. Might need to translate the page, though, it's mostly all French with the odd English thread.

The tires (including the honeycomb) were prototyped (3D printed) from powder (forget the proper name of the process). The spokes were done on an FDM machine, and the rims I machined from some ABS pipe on a metal working lathe.
