He made some headlines when he was in A1GP. But beyond that his open wheel career has pretty much sucked after F1. I'm surprised he didnt jump into IndyCar or V8s as rumors had him.
Sato had the right idea...but it looks like Karthikeyan wanted to try something else. I dont think he's tried Endurance GT racing yet but oh well. The NASCAR guys does ALMS too so he might be there as well.
Also the first indian to score points will still turn a few heads....even if it is more on technicality than actual skill
There has been millions of rumors spreading about regarding Narain moving from Open wheel to either Touring Car (V8 Supercar) or stock car (ARCA/NASCAR)
It has just been confirmed that Karthikeyan will drive at Martinsville this weekend in NASCAR
EDIT: Some incidents have been brought up to light. Again I was very very aggressive in the race but didnt cause anything except two incidents.
Incident 1: Sorry Niko and Sean, just got loose. I didnt barrel into you as Sean suggested over vent. If I did the three of us wouldn't have made it out of there pointing straight. Although it was fantastic driving by Niko and Sean to come out of my mistake relatively unscathed.
Incident 2: (The first big one) A lot of people didnt realize that the wind conditions made T3 very different. Thanks to Havoc, I came into this race expecting to be able to take T3 full throttle and I did. The result worked wonders. Went from 20th to 7th in the beginning green flag laps. Was able to catch large drafting packs easily just by flooring it in T3. Because of this, I expected to be able to go low and make it through as well. Unfortunately this wasnt the case as I quickly drifted up after hitting the T3 kink. I did my best to save it and I didnt spin or turn into the outside wall. But I ran out of space when Elliot started coming down out of his T3 run.
He didnt do anything wrong, any fault for that incident is on me. I out drove myself and should probably have avoided trying a Sato maneuver with so many cars around me. Had Elliot been further up in T3 I would have been fine. It was just a clip but that clip was enough to send my semi swerving car around. The field piled in after that. But no one retired and we continued fine.
Incident 3: (My retirement) I had watched the replay and this incident was in no way my fault at all. The restart was good. Was passing cars left and right again as well as utilizing the new T3 conditions to just blow by a few slow cars. Got up to a pack with Bean0 and Firebee. Bean0 lost it going high in T3 and came down right into me. I didn't touch Bean0. He just lost it on his own in front of me which sent me sliding (again) in T3 and on to my retirement.
Overall my race was basically 30 laps. Out of all of the incidents that happened I had only caused 2 at the very beginning. I1 was just a mistake. I2 was just me over driving and after that I told myself that I would never try that again (and I didnt). Who would have thought that I wouldn't better my K250 finish of 25th as a DNF (which was also not my fault)
What I meant by that was the way the wind was set up it was possible to just floor it through T3 (which a lot of ppl didnt realize early in the race). It's how I was able to keep catching the draft packs throughout the first 30 laps and go from 20th up to 7th. So because of that, I thought I was able to do the same thing going low and I basically just floored it and expected the be able to make the turn. The problem was my tires were already too hot and the T3 kink just basically shot me up the track. Yeh, being around ovals for so long I probably should have known better than to do a Sato move. But I just decided anyways as I wanted to be up as high as possible as early as possible. The incident wasnt a race breaker for me. In fact that pile up actually help me get into a better position strategy wise (had there been not as many cautions).
The second incident is what threw me out, and I will stand by my statement that the second caution wasnt my fault
Elliot didnt do anything wrong, if he was a bit higher it would have been fine. But he wasnt and it was my fault for out driving myself in T3.
I've already accepted that the accident was my fault. Wasnt saying it was because of the wind or because of anything else so there's no need to get defensive about my statement
I have to apologize for the rash driving that caused the first big pile up. Went deep in T3 and did my best to stay away from Southerton but he came down a bit and I almost made it but the tap sent me around. Dont know how the rest of the field piled in as i cranked it down to the inside, but it was my fault and I am sorry
But the second incident was I think Baker getting loose and just collecting me. I didnt hit him and did my best to avoid it but didnt work out. Was in the perfect scenario tho...pitted lap 30, full fuel and fresh tires..would have made it all the way if it went green from then on.
I would like to apologize for that big one. That was completely my fault just got too hot in T3 with the wind. Tried to stay off the #102 but a small clip send me around.
Pitted at lap 30. Changed tires, filled up with fuel and was good to go all the way. Then T3 again, but a concept car got loose and collected me and threw me off...
I think oval indy races are great. However...indy has been going to some soulless cookie cutter ovals in recent years. But a lot of indy's greatest memories were on ovals
I say...keep the same number of ovals. Swap out some of the boring ovals and bring in some of the better ones (California, Michigan, and Kansas would be nice, definitely keep chicagoland) but slashing them isn't a good idea imho. Surfers would be fantastic tho
I disagree, I think they should get rid of kansas and kentucky and replace them with Rockingham and Eurospeedway. The races there are usually fantastic especially CART at Lausitzring.
I dont know about you but I think Edmonton is kinda boring. Laguna Seca is a much better place. So...I say...keep the number of oval races (they have JUST enough) and replace some street courses with permanent road courses (Laguna Seca, Brands Hatch).
Personally tho, I think Indycar has a but too little oval races but I'm not complaining. If they continue to slash the number of oval races then I'll be fairly angry. But for now it's a pretty decent schedule.
I think people are starting to realize that it is possible to go 2 wide throughout most if not all of the Kyoto Oval.
Just go high but stay as tight as possible and you should be able to maintain atleast side by side with someone who is passing you. If he actually does pass you anyways, then it was really bound to happen. So just prepare to catch the draft and repass him.
Blocking is fine. But blocking like that is horribly unnecessary and it will hurt you as well as the person you're blocking
Completely missed the hotlap session and had to race my way in or else be out completely. With a 0 time, provisional was out of the question 100%.
started last, got caught in an incident with Shayne which spun me. No caution and joined right behind the 41. Unlapped myself b4 the 1st caution and went up to 5th. Runas was blocking like his life depended on it and almost took out Yann and I (I wont protest...dont know about Yann, but please be careful next time). Fell back to 7-8th after that blocking incident...tried to bump my way back but too many people were making desperate blocks and moves and eventually a lag bump dropped me to 11-13th with Cagas and Martin. By now I'm starting to worry and I fought the both of them as hard as I could. Then Elliot fell back to us and I thought I should atleast go for a 10. Pushed him wide in T3 (sorry just oval racing :razz and switched back him to finish 10th before him.
Overall..could have been much better (especially since I was once running 5th) but I also could have crashed and not qualified.
I'm somewhat pleased that I was able to race in. Just hope that I dont stay at the end of the field for long come this K250 .
Also, thanks a lot TEM guys for allowing me in their channel.
EDIT: Updated the Miku skin again and added the generic clockwork skin...having a hard time figuring out which one to drive with so i just post both for now :\
I think most people forgot or didnt care to notice that this is Yann posting here...not some random drifter demo driver. Criticism is NOT necessarily a negative thing...it is different than meaningless whining (which is what a lot of demo drivers do). A lot of people's unconditional loyalty and love for LFS has made them blind to the current state of the game.
I've always felt they should have punished Brad. They dont necessarily need to revoke his license as if they were FIA. But something consequential.
I'm happy NASCAR's getting rid of the wing, I'm happy that NASCAR's allowing bumpdrafting again, I'm not happy with NASCAR continuing this chain of intentional wrecking. It is my only complaint of NASCAR now and they are diving deeper and deeper into it.
Eventually you'll have 20 intentional wrecks each race then it's not a matter of who has better racecraft...it's just a matter of who doesn't get involved in avoidable accidents.
There's a very very big difference between keeping the drivers on a leash and having some set of consequences.
NASCAR "forbidding bumpdrafting" is doing too much. But NASCAR punishing intentional wrecking is hardly "putting the drivers on a leash". Standards is what makes professional racing different (and more respectable) than illegal street racing. Without standards, it's just a bunch of guys trying to prove that they have a bigger dick than the other competitors. Nevermind safety, this kind of thing is just farcical and it would just turn into a reality tv show... Is this how a supposedly world class series is suppose to conduct itself?
I mean...you dont need to turn NASCAR into FIA...but completely getting rid of standards is the absolute extreme reaction to FIA and F1.
Carl Long was suspended for half a season for having the engine slightly too high. Carl Edwards takes out another competitor and he gets a "probation"? Does that even sound remotely fair?
What happens when someone takes someone innocent out? (which happened with Scott Speed in ARCA btw...). What happens when a driver "fakes" anger and "pretends to be wronged" just to take out another close competitor? In F1 Senna would sometime just ram into Prost just to keep Prost from scoring more points than him.
This is true racing? The day this becomes "true" racing is the day that racing will die. We're talking about a supposedly world class...FAIR...sporting series. Not WWE.
I love how people bashing Karun's GP2 results forget the fact that Kobayashi was a complete reject to GP2.
I think this just proves that GP2 isn't that great of a tool to judge F1 success anymore...heck...just look at the GP2 car...IndyCars would be a better preparation tool for F1...(the modern 1996 one...not CART/ChampCar)
