I'm glad that you posted this, Becky, 'cause I had the same impression on the two occasions I raced on the ss-server. I just didn't have the guts to complain because I didn't bother to file complaints out of laziness. I just didn't feel like reviewing 15-lap-races several times in order to identify all the offensive drivers. I know I should have, though .

Anyway, about identifying bad drivers by their lap times: Somehow I feel this does not work too well with the FOX. I was under the impression that even some of the worst drivers who repeatedly ignored blue and/or yellow flags, rejoined traffic recklessly etc. were capable of lap times within the 106% mark -- if they were lucky enough to get a clean lap, that is. So, +1 for being more strict on the ss-servers. I hope this will eventually help to make ss-servers as pleasent a place to race on as the race2 server f.e.

Quote from The Very End :(...) - why do you get points then if you are the only one on the track?

Maybe the system pities you for being so desperate that you'd race all by yourself?

Quote from Widdowmaker :Well - I have to say..... Only 1 skin got my vote, but in the order of decency - I will find 4 more to vote for.

It stands out as a clear winner in my minds eye - but there is more than 1 prize to be won.

I will spend the rest of the week selecting the next 4.

I had the same problem. Only one clear winner for me and the rest of the votes (now 5) is still subject to change .

Thx, Victor. Although it's still possible to vote for 6 LX6-skins and no LX4 (or vice versa). But hopefully people will prorate their votes all by themselves.

Probably too late now, but would it not have been better if voting for LX4 and LX6 had been seperated? Almost all my top-five picks would actually be LX6es, but I forced myself to vote for two LX4s at least to prevent a worst case scenario... .

Edit: hmpf, shinzooka is a tyre-brand? Never knew that ...

I have to agree that the small GTRs are a piece of cake to drive compared to the TBOs, and when I first joined that server and picked the UFR, I was quite surprised to find out that I was not allowed to.

However, I'm not saying it should be open to silver licenced racers. Nor am I saying it shouldn't. I really haven't made my mind up. Though, seeing that race2 could usually use a few more racers than are there, this might not yet be the right time to open race3 for silver licencees, I guess. But don't know. And who am I to... .

No, it stops today at 12.00 PM UTC .

And problem's solved already, file-size of my screenshot was too big, but instead of telling me that it told me the above error.

Sorry for being stupid .

I've compiled a small list of a couple of racetracks for the Scaviers to have a guideline. Just to lighten the workload, you know.

List 1

And since that one is a little USA-biased, here's another one:

List 2

Those are just the ones that need implementation asap, preferably in the next patch, but I could wait till Z if neccessary.

Quote from StableX :are the TBO's being added to server two still or is it just an overflow CTRA1 server now?

Was supposed to be a multi-class racing server, so I think this is just an error (which hopefully will be fixed by the time I get off work ).

Server2 is definitely the place to be imho, but more drivers couldn't hurt.

On the other hand, there are some easy points to collect atm. Especially on the SO tracks. When half of the field crashes it's almost a guaranteed podium if your not one of them .

Seriously though, one does not need alien-times to slowly collect a few points here and there on Server2 and the racing is much, much, cleaner than on the ss-server.

Quote from Leadtail :... (all points are now heavily based on 1 lap time if the posts in these thread are to be believed) ...

Would be sort of interesting to know how much of a difference it makes whether you finish first with a lap time of 106% of the CTRA lap record or with a lap time of 100.1%.

Quote from thisnameistaken :I think on the shorter or tighter circuits (SO Town, FE Club) it could be a bit of a nightmare. On the XFG/XRG server there's usually at least one cluebie mid-race joiner driving out of the pits into the path of the leaders or getting spooked by blue flags and panicking when being lapped. Imagine that dude in an XFG with a field of XRTs bearing down on him.

(...)

-1 from me, then.

Exactly the way I see it. Mid-race joiners are already a problem on shorter circuits on the FOX server. Sometimes you just don't know whether someone has joined late and is battling for positions just for the hell of it or whether he's a lap down because of pitting/accidents etc. I can see this getting much worse on a multi-class STD/TBO server.

Personally I just have not raced TBOs (except for friday) because I wanted to try out the FOX server first (and I don't have enough time to do both). Since the Fox-server was not that much fun tonight, I can see myself dropping into the TBO server much more in the future.

I don't think 106% is all that harsh, tbh. The WR-benchmark for example is 103% and even I am capable of times within that benchmark and I usually don't need tons of laps to get there (at least not in the easier cars of which the FOX is definitely one).

But I guess time will tell if the system needs adjusting or not.

And in case I didn't voice my appreciation for all the hard work the CTRA-staff has done: You guys are marvels .

Quote from BlueFlame :Thanks Linsen, your the sturdy pillar this Community needs!

Glad you took the troll-definition to heart and are acting accordingly .

One more thing to keep in mind, though: trolling does not work with everybody. Some people are just not that easily provoked .

Btw, here's Scawens take on the collision issue from a thread only a little under one month old:

Quote from Scawen :OK this is becoming a bit too surreal now, so I will close the thread.

I don't position things on my todo list based on forum polls.

The collision detection and reaction has been on my list for a long time.

As stated already, it has not changed because we have had physically compatible updates.

Let me be clear : this thread has changed nothing. The issue was obviously already on my list.

Quote from ldriver :Then you must race rarely in south city because when you hit a wall there you have 80% chance of flying .

There's really no need to speculate about how much I drive where. There's a laps chart available through LFS-world, you know .

But anyway, isn't that besides the point? If you hit a wall, your race is likely to be over in rL anyway, so I don't see that much of a problem with those situations in LFS. If a slight nudge by another racer makes you spin or go flying, that's where the trouble with LFS starts. But those situations are not all that common in my experience .

Quote from BlueFlame :I think you proved yourself wrong there mate, because i DID ask what 'troll' means of Which nobody has enlightened me

Only one definition from the Urban Dictionary:
"Troll: One who purposely and deliberately (that purpose usually being self-amusement) starts an argument in a manner which attacks others on a forum without in any way listening to the arguments proposed by his or her peers. He will spark of such an argument via the use of ad hominem attacks (i.e. 'you're nothing but a fanboy' is a popular phrase) with no substance or relevence to back them up as well as straw man arguments, which he uses to simply avoid addressing the essence of the issue."

And I repeat: Nobody is denying that the collision system needs improvement. Only the opinions on how big a problem that is and how urgent that need for improvement is differ.

Personally, I rarely have collision system related problems .

Did you even read what people were saying, BlueFlame, or are you just trying to play the martyr now .

Quote from Becky Rose :Clicking on an LFS join link uses the software LFSJoin, LFSJoin always asks for a password (so admins can use it too). If you leave it blank then you can connect to servers without a password.

Well, yes, of course, but in this case LFsjoin says, after I left password blank:

"Password required! Type in the correct password and click 'Join' again"

Afaik this has never happened to me on any other server which didn't require a password. Might still be an LFSjoin issue, though, but I wouldn't know.

Edit: I'm too slow for Becky .

Quote from Avatar13 :Going toward turn 1 while jockeying for position I am often sent flying off the course from the AI if I don't get into the lead right from the start, and this is starting in the first position. Has been a bit frustrating at times. Could just be my poor driving but I find it very noticeable in regards to what Johnny is talking about.

Could also just be the poor driving of the AI. They do tend to hit you quite hard sometimes and thus indeed send you flying off the course, which is annoying but not due to the collision system.

Nice website, I really like the overall look of it. Simple and clutterfree .

Just a couple of little things that bug me:

1. The distance between the text and the dividing bars is awefully small on the welcome page.

2. The links on the top bar of the welcome page don't really stand out as links. They look just like the non-clickable section headlines. Would be nicer imho, if they were instantly distinguishable.

3. Would be nice if the links on the top bar were accented in a way once you're on that section.

4. On the "servers" site, the two bars on top ("currentctraservers" and "computeamraceauthority") are headlines for the following sections if I understand the structure correctly. Due to them being of the same width as the following points, they look as though they're on the same hierarchy level and thus my first impression was that there was content missing. Would be nicer, imho, if they were wider than the bars below (or the bars below would be narrower).

Just some suggestions which I think would make the site more user-friendly.

Anyway, thx a lot for all your hard work! I'm looking forard to some nice races on your servers tonight (if I can snatch a spot in one of them, that is).

Quote from ldriver :The uf 1000 has a strange bumper to bumper reaction , many times the cars will "glue" to each other .Other cars are better but need improvements.

Very true. I noticed this on the ufy many times. It feels as though the bumpers get caught with each other. I find that much more annoying than the occasional overly harsh reaction to gentle nudges (happens very, very rarely to me).

Welcom to LFS, Johnny Vet Boy B!

You're right, the collision system is not as good as it should be, but it actually shouldn't be as bad as you describe it. Not usually at least. Were you on a laggy server maybe?

Have fun!

Quote from sgt.flippy :Although I'm not American, I can't see the sarcasm in tristan's post.

I think this sentence does not make sense. It should read: "Although I'm American, I can see sarcasm in Tristan's post". (But that doesn't make any sense in the context at hand)

You know, reading Tristan's post over and over again, I think you could be right. Maybe I was just mislead by the wording of the introduction which seems to be utterly disproportional to Nuse's "offence":

Quote :In a flagrent display of power-mongering ...

But maybe that's just due to Tristan's natural tendency to exaggerate and this is in fact supposed to be a serious discussion about forum-freedom? Who knows?
