I never used to like BMWs.. but have pretty much developed a great fondness for the E30. Such a dream to drive and IMO, a proper driver's car. Got a shedload of service history with the silver one too.
I did think about leather for my old blue one, but decided to buy an Anthracite sports cloth interior instead. This one came with a silver sports interior that's _mint!_ so will be staying and the Anthracite will be sold to anyone offering me £150+. Got 4 leccy windows in this one too.. old one only had fronts. Even the headlight wipers work on this one
I bought 2 saloons too.. mainly as donor cars, but breaking in general produces a nice bit of extra pocket money.
Donor car for engine to replace the one in my old blue touring:
One bought for the ~80k miles 325i high-compression engine (car cost £170, engine sold this coming weekend for £250 ) Even came with its own garden, heh:
The death of my previous touring a few weekends ago :
A nice E30 325i Sport would be a cool addition too.. but finding a good one needs a remortgage on a house. Think the only time I'd touch a 4-pot one though would have to come with 'M3' on the documents although I don't have a spare £10-15k spare for a car
Paid £1,000 for this one after the head gasket went on my blue one and warped the head too All not lost though as it's worth at least twice what I paid for it as parts since I started breaking E30s
This one, although a year older than my previous one, is in _much_ better condition. A few niggles to sort, but not too bad for a 20 year old motor.
Has the right number of pots (6), right model (E30).. has a 40mm drop all round and H&R adjustable rollbars front and rear.. all new BMW bushes, tappets sorted so runs nice and quiet.. a sweet as drive. Since buying, have fitted my old mongoose stainless system, mild chip, red rear lenses and a tech2 steering wheel. Just needs an iS front lip to complete the job. This one might make it to The 'Ring
I'm out.. I guess I've said what I had to say (and I have a meeting in 2 mins). Maybe a little insulting to some (conscience? heh) but fair play. Just seemed the easiest way to write "someone who constantly bows down and kisses the feet of the developers regardless of whether praise is worthy or not"
Sheep: People who just follow others without conscious thoughts of their own.
Seems like common trend on this forum, unfortunately.
You mean the fact LFS operate as a commercial venture and happily accept people's money, yet work like a half-arsed, lazy, open-source college project?
As for your use of the word 'worship', I think that underlines my point very well, thanks.
Having manners is a positive.. the problem here is normally, that 'thank you' is accompanied by the likes of "you are my god Scawen".. "how often do you walk on water, sir?" or words to that effect.
Are you asking or telling me my opinion?
I don't hate the fact people enjoy the game at all.. more power to them. And where have I ever said I hated LFS? I see it's potential, but a lost potential, sadly.
Huh!? Now you're just trying to put words in my mouth. Where the fsck did I say I _want_ to see LFS fail!? I said I _can see it falling_... a world of difference!
As for heads and arses.. I think I'm one of the few that happen to have it already outside of their orifice. Since when have I claimed to be special in any way, or have rare insights?
When you actually have an argument to put against what I've said, feel free to come back and try again.. until then, I'd suggest you don't bother.
So because you, and 80% of the people associated with this forum are gullible sheep, that makes everything ok? I'm glad you see the world in black and white.
People keep telling me "take a break, go play something else then come back when there's something new"... well.. I did this, 3 years ago and came back after 2 years of being away and building my own content for rFactor.. yet, LFS is _still_ almost where I left it back then (except of course now, we can have [racist language removed] menus \o/ ). Just how much of a break does one need to take before something substantial is added to LFS?
Technology moves quickly.. and if you don't keep up, you fall flat on your face. How do you think a static web page with half a dozen pics on would do against a fully dynamic and interactive web gallery? Which would get the most visitors?
I seriously believe that if there was a true count for reasons people use LFS now, it'd be something along the lines of:
60% - skidding twats who think FnF was "ahhhhllll dat".
30% - racers looking for something semi-realistic.
10% - fanboys that no matter what happens to LFS, will always believe it was written by god himself and they're now blessed to be able to "share the experience".
LFS will fall, I'm almost certain of it. It does have huge potential, but alas, by the time we _may_ actually see some of it, there'll be a dozen other _real_ sims (not arcade games with half-decent tyre physics) that'll make LFS look like it was written for a WAP phone.
Feel free to continue to arse-lick, like 90% of the posts in this thread.. but the long and short of it is.. LFS is nothing but a glorified hobby to the devs (which it shouldn't be!). Consider this recent pace and think about S3.. complete new game engine (or at least, you'd like to hope so it looks like a 200x game, not a 1980s BBC Micro game in compraison to what's available these days), complete new content.. etc etc. Eric will be complete with 1 new track in about 2052.. woohoo!!
You like too many others keep spouting this "their game" bullshit. It's not. They're developing it, but they're selling it for a profit, that comes with certain requirements.
I could create a list like the (rather comical) changelog for apps I write too, except I note the important changes and the rest get filed under 'minor tweaks'... but Scawen is well aware just how gullible and fanatic the LFS community is in general.. so if he writes down every tiny change.. people will cream their pants at such a long list. I'm surprised we don't see things like 'removed redundant comment on line 3219 of network.cpp' just to make it look like more work was done than actually was.
Bollox to 'LFS - Online Racing Simulator'... more like 'LFS - Smoke n Mirrors Simulator'.
And that's really the bottom line. ISPs want to continue to oversell themselves at a cost to the customer. Has always been the same and I can't see it improving in the (not so near) future.
Hence the term 'deep packet'. They're not just looking at "this user is uploading.. he must be seeding illegal software"... they're looking at _what_ data you're sharing and going on that.
I think this sums up what LFS is today, pretty well. The influx of idiotic (skidding) kids over the past 12-18 months has taken LFS from being a serious attempt at a sim, to being a game for kids.... I bet Honda Civics are pretty good cars all in all... but now many see them as nothing but imported ricer jap crap.
Any numpty can run a service on a different port to standard, and ISPs know this.. so they need to use other, more reliable methods.. so they inspect the actual data packets being transmitted.. think 'Phorm'.
Wait wait wait.... you mean to tell me, after all this fsckin time.. Eric _STILL_ hasn't managed to create new interiors for all cars!? There's only one environment suitable for that man.... the dole queue.
Did we get Aboriginal language yet!? I'm sure there's plenty of LFS being played in the outback with players that feel discriminated against.
The new interiors from the screenshots I've seen aren't bad.. but jesus christ. Any hope for LFS becoming something has just been thrown right out the window. LFS is like Win98.... yeah, it'll still run, but everything about it screams "last century".
Worse.. they appear to have zero affect on (actually broke) 'only "buddies" can PM you' now. Left no choice but to close my PM access.
Personally I won't be upgrading to vB 3.7.x.. focus of forum software has unfortunately, been long lost. Now, how to convince people to start up news servers again
skstibi.. would I be right in assuming you've never had a previous version of the app installed before?
I removed the data dir and started it up as though it was the first time and I got an abnormal program termination. It only managed to create the data dir and 2 sub dirs, never saw the window other than the msgbox.
Could you drop me a mail at [email protected] with a contact mail addy for you? I've fixed the bug I mentioned and suspect that may resolve the issue for you too. If you can send me a mail address, I'll send you an updated copy to test
So not only are you immature (really, my kid wouldn't have even bothered.. "5cr3w_y0u"!? "u-lik3-m3n"!?!? ohhh pahlease!).. you've just confirmed you're a liar too. Way to go!
I'll give you that it's probably a typo rather than a spelling mistake, but it certainly wasn't deliberate (unless you really are stupid).. but if you're gonna be immature and try to be smart in the same text, at least try to concentrate on the smart bit
I would just up and walk away, if I didn't want to be involved still.
If you pay for a hotel room for the month, and 5 days into that, faults that were reported on day one still haven't been addressed, you might take it further. That said, if you have been in the hotel before and liked it, you might just progress with the complaint and try again later and hope it was a simple glitch.
All this said, I want to enjoy LFS again like I used to... I want to be back part of dSRC in active manner rather than just being a coder / host.. but the lack of progress has killed any spark there. Damn, even 1 new (and I mean new, not regurgitated) track and a few bug fixes would probably keep me happy for a while. I don't want it all tomorrow, I do understand things take time.. but _something_ soon would be nice after waiting so long.
I completely understand that. I can build a drivable track surface from scratch in 3DS, with AI working in ~2 hours. That includes tarmac and a grass edge (or whatever, depending on track). Completing that track to make it a _track_, not just a loop of tarmac, takes a fair bit longer and often, a lot more tedious ("planting" hundreds of trees really does get monotonous). SO I do get that rule too, but c'mon.. there's only so far that you can push that... LFS went way beyond that point 18 months ago.
Granted... it's not as serious as my security analogy, but my point remains. Even if it came down to a text editor.. if I had 2 and they both had 20 bugs, company ABC fixed 19 of theirs within 2 days and the final one within a week.. and comany XYZ fixed 5 of theirs in the first 4 days and left the remaining 16 for the next 4 years... but had added 4 extra languages to read the menus in.. which editor would you think was the better product, and which company would you think was the better company?
But they're only half working on it (or at least, that's how it seems by way of what's being released). Bugs since day 1 remain, yet new and far less important crap is added "constantly"... the priority list just doesn't make sense (and pretty sure it's not just me).
I can't remember the last race I had in LFS.. over the past 3 years, it's probably no more than 20 races due to it becoming stagnant and boring. Access to the forums are free, so the money consideration doesn't come into it there. It's not the point that I've paid £24 and feel hard done by.. I don't to an extent, I put that much in my car almost daily to get to and from work, it's the fact that nothing seems to be progressing forward for that. You wouldn't invest in a house if the market was static.. you may as well put it in a shoe box for 5 years later.. the £24 is nothing in monetary value, but a lot more in principle.
So you, like me, "invested early".. as I said, the net result is the same, we've paid to have the complete S2 product (else they'd be charging for patches).. just because we decided to pay early makes no difference whatsoever, but S2 final isn't coming any time soon.. fsck, S2 BETA ain't coming any time soon!
Post what you like.. back, water, ducks will instantly spring to mind
We haven't seen any _new_ tracks in LFS for years (not old, regurgitated tracks with a few polys bolted on one end to create a "new combo" ). One might therefore be entitled to think that their modeller isn't up to par.
The current tracks are riddled with bugs, always have been since day one, yet never been fixed. Does said modeller not have the skillset available to resolve such issues?
As I said, thankfully _I'm_ not Eric's employer.. I didn't say Scawen should boot him out the door.. _if_ I was, I would have, that's all.
