Quote from russraine :Server was there in the list as usual.

Did you look for Private servers?

Yep, servers 2 & 3 were listed but 1 wasn't. Eventually I realised I could type it manually but it said wrong password.
I'm bitterly disappointed especially as I'll be -40 :/

Guys - Server 1 never appeared in the list for me (for Pool 4), is the race under way or is there a problem? If I've missed it I'm gonna be upset

I've been busy and will have a go tonight.

Just something else ... I might have spotted a typo on the lfs-league.com website. Under QUALIFYING, the new event is shown as "Event 5" but it is actually event 8.

Thanks.

I happened to see the new Scirocco at a VW dealer yesterday. Must say I quite like it. The front is very agressive and I love the rear haunches.

Looks like you had a good time.
But people in their own race suits? Its bad enough seeing people decked out in racing gear a trackdays...

With O2 ... you mean as in wireless 3G connection?

Ok, Tracert (TraceRoute) is a command that shows you the route taken by your data to reach a particular desination. It tells you every step of the route and how long it takes. You need to run from a command prompt (DOS box) by going Start > Run and typing "cmd" (this is XP, unsure about Vista?).

Anyway, thats what it is, but how to apply it to LFS? ... luckily Victor has posted a very good guide on this problem.

View it here; http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=29454

Hope this helps guys.

GTR2 has wet weather and it is implimented very well. I remember a wet race at Spa Francorchamps in GTR2 and after a while a dry line appeared. I was like WTF this is awesome!

Have you all having connection issues tried a tracert? It might show where a stoppage is?

Thanks - I did search for "dds skins" but it brought back 493 results, none of which seemed to fit the bill. I think there's a definate skill in searching. Sorry to trouble you but thanks for the link.
JPG's now DDS in skins-x?

Okay so I've not delved into the skins-x dir for ages (there's now an empty skins-y) but to my dismay there aren't jpg's but .dds files. If I want to 1) view them and 2) use them how do I do this please?

Thankfully it seems an exception to the OLFSL racing I've seen. We generally all know to take it easy in T1 and not go steaming up the inside. I've done a lot on the CTRA servers recently and one night every race I started I got bumped off the track in T1.

Thanks for clearing that up.
Do you think LFS will offer better (more) options in future releases?

I get this rarely when the wheel hasn't been straight when I've restarted the game or something. Also try turning it full lock to lock. And also go into the Windows Game Controller applet in the Control Panel and see if the wheel is being seen by your PC correctly.

I don't understand WHY it should be poor in-game. At last it is supported but it seems that the driver version is better than in-game. Surely AA is AA, regardless what switches it on?

I was going to say that a lot of spins through contact are caused by the game and/or lag. I watched your vids Bozo and I agree some moves were a little optimistic - nothing more annoying that someone barging through or barelling up the inside, especially on the first turn of a race. But as Russraine says it can be exciting when you have some (harmless) paint swapping.

Solar - just a thought, what about an RTF or TXT format doc? Only I don't think many people want the 82Mb Open Office download...

I downloaded a set 15 mins before the start which promised good tyre wear - it was excellent on tyre wear. Problem was with the back end, you know what I'm like with a tight rear coming our of corners. Well, sure enough I fell off multiple times mainly from the back end keeping turning out of corners. Once I collected someone which I was sorry about.

I qualified 6th in pool 3, gained a couple of places on the start but with my spins I finished a very poor 13th. A bit gutted, could have done so much better, but I really can't get the hang of these "so called" quick setups - I have to CRAWL through corners and then be very gentle on the exit. I really don't know how people get quick times with sets like these.

Are some random times set in qualifying scrutinised?

I think I have an issue with the setup then, perhaps its a qualy set... it seems it understeers like a pig normally but I found that lifting off into a corner will throw the rear round into the corner which is much quicker but it eats the tyres after 2 laps.

I think I need a race setup (FZR). Is anyone kind enough to send to lfs[at]mivec.co.uk? I mean, I'm gonna be well down and not a threat

Still on the subject of advice.

I'm taking the FZR (can't drive the XRR, its way too unstable for me). But I'm REALLY struggling with tyres. On my qualifying outlap I used R3's and I'm not pushing that hard but the tyre temp is turning yellow by the time I'm on the back straight. At the end of the recorded lap 1 they're in the red.

Any advice on this please? I can imagine in the race its going to be like driving on ice with melted tyres
R4's dont cut it, they don't really get warmed through and then all of a sudden they turn black.

So somehow I have to get more out of the R3's.

Ah I understand, perhaps the admins are a bit slow doing that because you're a latecomer and they are busy with other things (ie. they've already done the push on flags etc at the start of the league). Just guessing though... it might be worth a very polite email to them

I also found that there was a little bit of a learning curve just to find where everything is here. But a good look around the lfs-league site is in order for you. As for the email notifications, not everyone in this (very large) league races every time and so its better for the people who are racing to find out for themselves. A smaller league I was in DID get email notification, but its just the way that was done.

Quote from Fabio Maximus :My goal in qual is not be in the last pool,

Thats always my goal Only managed not to be in the last pool a small number of times, these guys in the upper pools are incredibly quick. Like proper record-setters.

About qualifying - you might think that you can drive slower in qualy in order to get a lower pool or a poor grid slot and then work your way up the field. Not only is this more risky but you get more points for finishing when you're in higher pools. So it does pay to drive the pace you're capable of.

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :My first race here too, have to say everything seems a bit unorganised, didn't get any email telling me the server password or anything, website needs some sort of forum etc.

Hmm... sorry for the length of this but sounds like it needs explained.

To be brutally honest, this is one of the best organised leagues I've ever seen (whether on LFS or other "games"). The amout of work behind the scenes is amazing (the way the server works for qualifying and racing) which I've not seen on other leagues.

Passwords are all listed, there isn't an email that goes out. All you need to do is go to lfs-league.com and log in, then under either "Qualifying" or "Race Weekend" (on the left at the bottom) you can get all the information you need. Also see the Passwords section because you'll need that too.

Also it is very important that you look at the top right, at time I write this message there is only 3 days, 10 hours in which to get your qualifying lap in (which you need to do online by joining the qualifying server with the appropriate password).

If you're new to this league, make sure well in advance you know what you're doing and make sure you 1) put your qualy lap in, 2) turn up early for the race. VERY IMPORTANT that you qualify in time, otherwise you won't be racing. Some of us have fallen foul of this

Its worth mentioning that you will qualify and be put into a set of different "pools" depending on your time. The "pools" will race at different times and you'll be shown this when you log into the website - grids are published usually a couple of days prior to the event.

The forum for the league ... well, you're reading it. It isn't on the lfs-leage site, its here.

Oh, and try not to fall asleep like I did before the last race and missed the whole thing (I'm still kicking myself now)...
