Hmm, why are there skid marks under Stu's car...

Darn kids!

Uh oh, now I have to back up my assertion that I'm more competitive in road cars than I am in race cars.

Now if I can only find the downforce slider for my XRG...
Endurance League Survey

I wanted to try to get a feeling for what elements people look for in endurance leagues in LFS. If you feel so inclined, please provide feedback on the following questions.

race length: 1-3 hours or 3+ hours
car classes: mixed or single class
start procedure: rolling or standing
full course yellows w/safety car: yes or no
car types: road or race
qualifying: single lap or timed session
car skins: required elements (standard number tags/visor) or whatever you want to do
points system: every position gets some points or only the top x positions get points

I'm looking for general answers rather than specific. I don't want "XRTs for 300 laps at Aston Club with high winds", just a general idea of what elements LFS racers want in an endurance series. If there's some other element that's important to you that I forgot, please feel free to mention it.

Thanks in advance for your input.

As much as the devs interact with the community (which is almost unheard of), I don't think they're going to read a thread and decide to change what they're working on or move up a deadline to get a feature out the door.

Like most people, I played the demo, saw what else I could get if I bought a license, thought is was worth the money, and bought it. I still think it was worth the money. Any new content or updates from the time of purchase is a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

Sure there are lots of thing I'd like to see added. They've already been suggested in the "improvement suggestions" thread, so I keep quiet.

Congrats on the job, Bob. That's a dream for many of us PC racers who work in IT.

Now you have to push them to make a decent dirt oval game. Just tell them it's like drifting, only more manly.

Great video and great racing! Very dicey in the midpack.

I was going to recommend that the STCC have special bump and jump broadcast to promote that part of CTRA, but it looks like you just did!

Keep up the good work and where can I pre-order my DVD?

Quote from SpikeyMarcoD :Indeed no more empty servers Well do you earn the same points if you beat AIs, ah well lets first test what Scawen comes up with.

I'd like to be the first one to report AI1 for rough driving

My video debut and it's footage of me getting spun out in the KY Nat Oval section! Ah well, they say that all publicity is good publicity...

Nice video though!

When I got this message, I made a copy of the [hard track] setup as a base and it worked. I would imagine the other one that you can't edit would work as well.

I appreciate the desire to not have goofy setups on B and J, but the same apparently doesn't apply to Race1, etc. It bothers me more to have to make another set from scratch than it would to see someone taking the family out for a B and J run. Maybe that's just me.

Last night in particular was league night for LOTA (League of the Americas) www.lfs-lota.net. There were ~35 racers on 2 servers - GTRs at FE4R - scary!

It's a very well run league and has gotten more popular recently, with drivers from Columbia, Mexico, Canada, and the US. There's also a Monday night MRT league.

I agree that it's tough to find pickup races during evenings in the US. Usually if you join CTRA race 1 or bump and jump, you'll attract a small crowd within a few minutes.

On the subject of DVDs... I'd pay at least $20 plus shipping for one. I'd imagine many other LFS racers would too.

Keep up the great work!

One of my favorite tributes (in RL) I've seen is the "missing man" formation. When a racer or someone close to a given racing series dies, the formation and parade laps before the start are done with the pole position open.

Of course LFS doesn't have formation laps, so I guess that's out.

First off, thanks for providing this great system and the servers to run it. LFS is a better place because of the CTRA system.

Now it's time for me to whine about the points Actually, just an observation. Back in the old system, there seemed to be a "participation bonus" or something - it seemed like everybody got at least one point (times a car multiplier) for finishing on the lead lap. I think this had an effect on the way people drove. On most public servers, including the new CTRA, I find this kind of thing happening a lot...

I drive my butt off for 4 laps to pass someone for some mid-pack position. Shortly after I make the pass, the guy I pass overcooks it going into a turn,or makes an aggressive mistake, goes off track, then he pits or disconnects. There's no incentive for him to finish the race. You see a lot of races that start with 16 cars and end with 6.

In the old system, that guy would drive to finish the race and collect his point(s). In the new system, there's no point (literally) in finishing if you're not fast or in the top few finishers. I like to drive the whole race, even if I'm not getting points, but it seems like many don't.

Maybe I'm reading too much into my fellow drivers' behavior. Of course in the end, it's up to each driver to decide if they want to bother to finish. But awarding a point or two for everyone on the lead lap might encourage a higher percentage of drivers to complete the race.

I know this is dangerously close to the "right of passage" license which you're trying to avoid. I think of it this way: if you're earning 1 point/race for 300 races (or however many points you need) and you haven't been reported, you must be clean, if not fast

Just my .02. It's your system to do with as you like. Thanks again for giving so many racers a high quality place to compete.

Did anyone else draw a parallel between the release of the new Harry Potter book today (midnight tomorrow I guess) and the release of CTRA-X? Both coming out today, both written by Brits, both highly anticipated...

One thing that would encourage me to join CD4 would be if there was a track rotation. It doesn't have to be every two hours, maybe just once a day or every few days. I thought track changing was going to be part of the plan for CD2 and CD4.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like a little track variety every once in a while.

BTW, you can take false starts off the list since they got added in X.

Just wanted to say thanks for running these servers and implementing the license system. I think I'm part of the quiet majority who enjoy close racing on a full server (esp. with mini-GTRs!), even if it means an occasional bump or two.

As for the time limit thing... I assume you have to be under the stated times? I ask because I ran a 53:000 the other day on CD3. I'm sure once I sober up and become less simian-like, I'll knock at least .001 off that...

Not a nightmare, really, but scary at the time. When I went to my first Indy 500 in 2002, I slept in my Dad's van across the street from the track the night before the race. Nobody told me that they fire off a cannon at the track when the gates open (at 5 or 6 am, I forget).

So there's this gigantic BOOOOOOOOOOM at the crack of dawn, followed by lots of helicopters (the drivers and teams flying into the track, I later found out). Add a little post-9/11 jitters and heavy drinking the day/night before...

I always start off giving everyone plenty of room and respect. Over the course of a few races, you sometimes see a particular driver using the Braille method of passing. I'm not going to try to wreck him, or even nudge him, but I'm going to turn up my aggression a notch when racing that one guy.
