Apparently there's no demo yet, or at least I didn't see one. I want to get the demo and request neon and body kits on the ARCA Sim-Racing forums.

Sorry for the big bump...

I tried this today and found that it told me I needed the right ballast/IR, but it didn't actually spectate me for not using it. I vaguely recall hearing that the spectate command changed with Patch Y. Could that be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the huge bump, but...

I just found this tool and I wanted to say thanks! I've only messed with a with a few features, but what I've seen (rotator and xml results file) is very nice!

Got any future plans for it?

I believe Mike's point is this. He had to stop and he didn't have the option of turning since there were cars, people, buildings, etc on all sides. Remember, over here, every street corner has 4 Walmarts on it.

Slowing down with engine braking, yes. Stopping with engine braking, no.

I believe what the OP is looking for are servers that have track rotations, like CTRA, but have different cars, and don't require licenses to enter.

If I recall for a short time before patch X, Sam put up the "GTR Club" server, and probably the "FOX Club", etc. Those were servers that used the track rotation logic, but used other cars and were open to everyone.

I'm not suggesting that the CTRA change their license structure. It works quite nicely as it is. But I think a lot of us would like to see the track rotation logic on other servers, even if it's not in the CTRA. I think there's an insim app to do just that posted somewhere.

I intend no offense to anyone with this. I tend to be a grumpy old man myself, yelling at kids to get off my (or Westhill's) lawn, but this thread strikes me as a little ironic.

This thread - "damn all these new players"
Lots of other recent threads - "why are the #s of racers declining?"

Unfortunately we can't have it both ways. If we're going to have an influx of new racers, we have to expect some noobish behavior. We can only hope that wreckers/idiots get tired of being kicked/banned/reported and the new clean guys find their way to the better servers.

Not only the wrong section, but the wrong forum.

I'd start in the SCCA forum with the same question. Good luck.

I'm a complete hack at setups, but here's what I do...

Try setups from different "authors", either from Inferno or the old standby begging fast guys for their sets. Once you try 5 or 6, see what you like and use that for a base setup in that car for other tracks. Adjust final drive and left/right handedness (camber and tire pressure) and you're good to go!

Once you have a setup you like, you can tinker with things and see what happens.

Quote from xaotik :To be honest, I wouldn't mind if LFS is a result of someone's hobby, full-time job, or even that of a programmer with a bowel disorder doing 24-hour-on-the-toilet-with-a-laptop coding spree. I liked what I saw and I pitched in and I enjoy whatever limited LFS-time I manage to squeeze in a day. So all this arguments based on the commitment levels and what-not are really lost on me.

This is exactly my thought process as well. I liked what I saw in the demo, I thought S2 would be worth $50, I bought it. I wasn't disappointed with my purchase. That was when S2 first came out. It's gotten a lot better since then and I still haven't paid another dime for it.

Sure, I'd like lots of things fixed or improved, more content, etc. But I'm not exactly in a position to demand it now, am I?

Step 1 would be to get as far away from drugs as possible. It's not going to be an easy fix, such as turning on some music. Not to mention that almost all the artists you mentioned are heavily associated with drugs.

Quote from MR_B :Blimey, can't believe I've been playing LFS all this time and haven't come across this!
LFS always has another nifty trick up its sleeve when you least expect it.

Glad I'm not the only one who didn't know about that. BTW, Sam, I made the noob coffee last time, too. It's someone else's turn!

Quote from SamH :Aye sir, you are

Click on the [?] next to a server. This is new to you.. it's not a button that's available to you in demo, it's S1/S2 only.. so there's no need to feel stupid, unless you really wanna

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info I've decided to feel stupid now despite your free pass.

Quote from SamH :As Gentlefoot points out, though, the server browser already delivers most of the information. It tells you the track, the cars available, how many laps and where everybody on that track is - whether they're spectating, in a car and finished, or racing and on what lap. I don't really know what more information you're looking for that you wouldn't just be better off joining the server to see for yourself

It's in the server browser at LFSworld, but not the one when you run LFS.exe. Unless I'm missing something, which is entirely possible.

Quote from SamH :You can see the current state of play at LFSW, and join the server from there if that's actually something you want. That way, you don't even need to start up LFS to decide if there's a server you want to race on. Pretty efficient!

I agree that the info is in LFSworld, but it would nice to have it in both places. I always use the in-game browser, only because I haven't bothered to get join2lfs. I can make myself remember to use LFSworld, but you can't FORCE everyone to connect one way or another. If both places had that information, it wouldn't matter how you joined.

Regarding the inability to find a decent pickup race...

There IS pickup racing happening in LFS - on the demo servers. Why there and not on the licensed servers? Demo users generally don't have any leagues to practice for. And unless the name of the server has a drifting reference in it, chances are nearly 100% that there's a 4-10 lap race happening there.

If you use the in-game server browser for licensed servers, you have no idea if the 5 people on are spectating, qualifying, running a 5 lap race, or running a 3 hour race.

My suggestion: have the in-game server browser report the status of what's happening on the server (i.e. lap 2 of 6 or 10 minutes remaining in qualifying) in addition to how many people are on.

Many times I've seen 5-7 people on a server that sounded interesting, something like LFRs at South City, only to join and find that they were practicing for a league race or working on hotlap setups. It's fine that people do that (I do it too), but I'd rather not have to join the server to find that out.

And about the point of more content = better pickup racing. It's actually the opposite. Again look at the demo servers. Everyone knows the limited combos there so the learning curve is small.

Quote from Antman :Ok thankyou i was just asking i know i need to improve i just felt that people may get bored before they start to get any points i personally love ctra but i jus thought you could get some by finishing the race quite near the front

A large part of the fun is getting faster for the sake of getting faster. Do that and the points will come. Rumor has it that there are even some servers where you just race for a good finishing position and bragging rights, not points.

I don't have those problems with Race 1. There's the occasional "arrow without feathers", but they are few and far between. Everyone has to start somewhere.

I've been picking Sci-Fi and Fantasy authors off the library shelves nearly at random and run across some great authors, well IMO.

Joe Haldeman -
Forever War, Forever Peace, Forever Free, The Guardian, Camoflauge, The Accidental Time Machine. All very enjoyable.

I also found the Fools' Gold trilogy by Jude Fisher (never heard of her before that) to be really well done.

Before that, I did the Foundation series from Asimov. He was way ahead of his contemporaries in terms of scientific understanding.

I had a similar problem after I upgraded my video card. I thought it was faulty, but then I realized what the problem was.

The fan on the new video card plugged into the power supply, which the old one did not. I was using a power supply that barely cranked out enough juice to run the system, especially after adding the new power-hungry video card. Then I realized that the PC was rebooting every time the electric space heater (on the same circuit) turned on. The extra draw on the circuit was enough to make the PC reboot.

Initially I turned off the heater and froze while racing, then I upgraded the power supply and fixed the problem.

Hope that helps!

Hello Rallycross fans and S1 licensed racers!

There have numerous threads in the past about people's frustration with finding a populated rallycross server.
There are also been a few threads by S1 racers who are frustrated with the lack of populated S1 servers, other than one server, which is so populated that it's full much of the time. Scavier have requested that people run servers as S1 if they only use S1 content.

With that in mind, Stars and Stripes Sim Racing (S3R) is providing a public S1 Rallycross server. This server, hosted by 500 Servers, has many features not found on other servers, including: [tongue-in-cheek]
- A state-of-the-art SMTP-based reporting system - email us a replay to report wreckers
- Weekly track and car rotation system - we'll log in on Monday and switch the combo
- Complete statistics available from every race - on lfsworld.net
- Ground-breaking user-controlled restart function - shift-R
- Enhanced scoring system - each time you finish a race, write down your finishing position and put it on your fridge
[/tongue-in-cheek]

Ok enough of that. The goal is to provide a place for clean rallycross racers, both S1 and S2, to enjoy some friendly competition. The car choice will alternate by week between the XFG and the RB4. The tracks will change weekly between the 6 rallycross choices that LFS has available.

Please join us on the S3R S1 Rallycross server (S3Racing C) - clean racing on a dirty track!

The most important thing for me in a racing sim is that there's someone to race against online. I was worried that LFS would lose its already smallish user base in US timezones when iRacing came out.

With this pricing scheme, I'm not so worried anymore. With that kind of pricing, I'd say more than 50% of the target audience (sim racers we assume) can't or won't buy it. If you can only ever find five fellow millionaires online, it doesn't matter if it has the best physics and every real car and track ever made.
