Quote from JazzOn :This is for tweak, I guess, since you can run a tweak/slickmod server which edits the memory but not the exe.

It's probably not amusing for the developers to see, but it was tolerated

Stop talking if you don't have a clue what you're on about. How do you think we ran a 600bhp GTR dedi server in MoE without tweak? Available here if you want to try it (0.5Z28 though).

I have only 10 cars enabled to help with fps, so I can't check the whole of relative; if I'm in an MC race I'd like to see straightaway what position a) I am in and b) what position the cars around me from the other classes are in, without having to go to the F2 menu, get the other class, then scroll down to actually see where those other cars are in their class if they aren't in the top 7 - bearing in mind that it's not as easy as a single class where you can press the left/right button and it'll focus on your position.

Knowing what position cars in other classes are in is useful as if you're in the faster car, you don't want to be interrupting a battle for the lead, etc.

Quote from Cornys :I have a question for Americans on the forums here: Does anybody else find it hard to get into the series due to lack of broadcasting? I do

I should probably check out speedtv.com for those times that they are on, but they are always on at funny times for me. Kinda like the V8 Super Cars.. I can't get into them because they are never on at the right times, and I hate watching racing off of a taped broadcast.

That, and there isn't a single American competitor or car make or anything that I could relate to in it. I guess I don't feel like I have a horse in the race, so why would I watch it.

Well for Brits/Europeans there's not much we can relate to in NASCAR, it goes on for hours, half the time it's on late at night and we have to watch it through justin.tv but people still watch it. Same with V8s, GP2, Indycar, etc., although the last two do have some British/European drivers in them.

Generally it's a case of keeping up to date with who has won, watch clips on youtube/darcyf1 etc. and then downloading the race later (from RFM) if you didn't manage to catch it live. Not sure why you don't want to watch a taped broadcast, surely better as you can FF if it gets boring

Good thing for you is the final race of the season is in Brazil, so that's 11am http://www.speedtv.com/programs/formula-one/ (or go to f1.com and check the session times in EST)

Quote from Jshort :Is the V8 super car worth getting? I've read from quite a few it's a piece of crap and nobody races it, but is it at least fun to just lap with? Thanks.

It's fun to race and lap with, it puts a smile on your face when you've done a good lap as you know you've done well in keeping it on the track and under control. You need to be careful on the throttle, brake early, and kinda drive it slow and smooth to go fast and keep the tyres from getting worn too much. Might not be realistic, but meh when a lot of the cars are broken anyway you might as well have fun with it

In terms of participation only 9 other car classes were above it last season (HPD O/F, SM, Skippy, MX-5 O/F, Mustang and Solstice/SRF) - ok, half of the drivers were Aussies and their main races are Mondays at 1045 GMT, but there's enough other races through the weekend for you to have some fun racing it - especially as this week is Watkins Glen.

Quote from Cornys :Here a disaterous replay which I personally am vowing to correct.

I plan on running an XRR oval event next weekend in which I plan to run a much better event from the admining stand point. I promiced myself that that mess would not happen again and that I would correct it. I'm going to make sure that that doesn't happen again.

I'd hope so. I've seen better admining from the Kingsburys.

Anyway, here's some old replays for you to browse and laugh at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9725404/srdarwinawards.zip

I'm curious as to why you can't just set the race to 1 hour and then manually do /laps=x once the leader crosses the line after 30 minutes have elapsed, if no one will make an app?

Release notes: http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/1821548.page

Highlights:
Quote from iRacing S4 release notes :
Website:

Multi-Class Racing

- For multiclass series (this does not apply to hosted or tournaments) you no longer need to own all of the cars in order to participate or spectate. You do need to own at least one of the cars. For example, season 4 of the GRAND-AM series will run the DP and the Mustang. If you own either the DP or the Mustang you will be able to join any of the sessions to race (or watch). Your available selection of cars to drive will be limited to what you have purchased but the system will allow you to download the others car(s) so the sim can render everything properly.

+ various other fixes

Simulation:

New Tire Model

- The new tire model is now available on many new cars including most of the Rookie cars: the Legends Ford '34 Coupe cars (both Rookie and Advanced), Mazda MX-5 Cup and Roadster, the SCCA Spec Racer Ford, Street Stock, Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, and Chevrolet Corvette C6R. It continues to be the tire model used on the Skip Barber Formula 2000, Ford GT, Honda Performance Developments ARX-01c, and the top three NASCAR oval track vehicles, the Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Impala Class B, and Chevrolet Impala cars. There are several improvements that apply to all the cars with new tires, including those you are familiar with already.

Driver Aids

- Casual mode added as an option to hosted sessions. This allows you to use roof cameras when driving.

Cars

- The driver has been re-modeled with higher detail.

- The driver now has multiple helmet types based on the type of car which you are driving.

- The driver now animates as he steers the car. You can enable or disable his arms in the cockpit camera depending on your preference. For now the driver's arms are limited to only +/- 180 degrees of steering until we put together an animation to cope with crossing over the driver's arms. Hardware shaders must be on to see the driver animation.

- Pit road stop/go person re-modeled.

- All cars now have some form of pit object associated with them. These objects will show up at most tracks except for tracks with garages very close to their pit lanes. The pit road objects can be lowered in detail or disabled in the graphics options menu under pit objects.

Oulton Park

- Oulton Park Circuit is now available and includes eight configurations.

Charlotte

- Now raceable at night.

- Cones added to Charlotte's full road course config which block the legends oval.

Iowa

- Now raceable at night.

Road America

- Optimizations have been made to improve frame rate.

Spa-Francorchamps

- Optimizations have been made to improve frame rate.

Suzuka

- Suzuka's West and West Chicane configurations now have more pit stalls.

Quote from g7usl :Yes Franky, installing Airio has stopped the 'axload' permanantly. I have removed Airio from the server now but, would like my Axload back please?

Airio cannot stop LFS commands, the only way /axload wouldn't work is if you either were not an admin or there was no layout with the name you're trying to load on your server.

SR is a measure of corners per incident (CPI) over your last couple of thousand corners. To promote you need you need to be 3.0 by the end of the season and have done your MPR, or 4.0 and you get promoted instantly. Read the sporting code to learn more about things.

Maybe you should try a decent setup for the Legend, those things are nimble so hardly a milk float...

Quote from S3ANPukekoh3 :thought I'd try iRacing today since it's only $12 for 3 months. 20 minutes later the entire server crashes, apparently not only can you not race but you can't test in single player mode at all. How often does this happen? It seems to be back up now but there are no 'rookie' servers at all. Starting to think this was a waste of 12 bucks. All up I worked out that it will cost about $820 dollars for all content plus sub fees... My god.

Well, slightly different to a "server crash" when there's a problem at the data centre. I suppose if you compare it to having 500 servers as your sole server provider, it's 100x better I've only seen unscheduled maintenance a handful of times in the couple of years I've had iRacing.

You get 6 cars and 10 tracks free, which allows you to do the 2 Rookie series on both road and oval, without paying anything other than your subscription. I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to buy anything at all until they've done 1 season in the Rookie cars, and understand how things work in iRacing.

Of course, as with everything in life, you get what you pay for. I'm not in the habit of extravagant spending, and I'm certainly not wanting to give iRacing a lot of money, so I have wisely bought the minimum amount of cars and tracks to do the series I like to race in. As you can see from season 4 schedule, buying a track like Watkins Glen or Mid Ohio means you get to use it in almost every series, so although the $621.68 (20% off for 6 items) in content fees may seem a lot, buying a couple of the most used tracks will certainly mean you can get your moneys worth.

At the end of the day, it depends on what you want to race as well - you don't buy oval content if you're a road racer, etc. so unless you want to race everything under the sun, you don't need to spend too much.

Road car enduro sounds like a plan, the tyres can last a lot longer than GTR ones, so would be interesting with strategy to see if you could at least double stint them. Doesn't need to be a hugely complex league or anything, just a few events spread out with various cars, tbh you don't need SCs - and provided it's supported and promoted enough it should do well.

Quote from tristancliffe :And by doing so broke the rules. Regardless of whether he could see the cause or not, that zone was yellow, and his dash, the yellow flags and his radio will have told him so. The marshals in proximity may have been intended to return to the track to collect debris, hence the zone remaining yellow. Had Hamilton spun whilst using his DRS, and hit a marshal because he couldn't be bothered to slow down a bit, then he'd look even stupider than he already does. Being a good racing driver he won't be on the limit in FP1 of a brand new, dusty circuit whilst testing things for the race, but that in itself doesn't rule out mistakes. Indeed, he went quite a lot quicker later in the session, suggesting that this lap wasn't on the limit (as would be prudent).

MY argument and THE argument are one and the same.

You say he had a light on his dash, the problem is when we saw him passing the double waved yellows the time remaining at the top of the screen showed the yellows had been removed a good 4-5 seconds before he got to the flags. Now, if the yellow light on the dash system works from GPS/race control, he may not have got that light when he came round turn 17.

In addition, it seemed like light #18 (see http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacent ... Documents/ind-circuit.pdf and attached Sutil onboard image) was not flashing at all, and perhaps the lights at the previous corner were not yellow either. The other curious thing is that the green lights are controlled by either race control for all points green, or automatically by the previous light board going yellow - except as we saw, the previous one was not yellow.

All in all a bit strange, as you'd have thought the corner before would also be yellow on account of the double waved after it - normally there's a lot more obvious "yellow" about.
