What if there realy is a some kind of bug in force efects? I just read an interesting comment in RSC, and IMHO it's possible that the forces in LFS doesn't work as well as they should.

Quote from 11SuLLy11 :Hi guy's I never downloaded a patch yet, always waited till auto download, could someone give me a quick guide?.

Open the first post of this thread here.
Click the patch link there and download the LFS_TEST_W26.exe into your LFS directory. When the download is finished, just run it and click the Execute button. When it asks to overwrite some files click Yes to All. After that, you are ready to go.

Quote from flinty72 :As for your second point, players swapping skins between themselves, it won't happen for obvious reasons that have already been answered in many other threads, it is do with content censorship, they can't allow the transfer of political & ethically sensitive material.

It's not that hard to do both. First send skins to LFS server (like it's done now), and then just controll the transfers with checksums. And if the user doesn't want to send the skins from his own computer, skin could be downloaded from the LFS server. That's one solution for the problem. But this is going off topic and resembles (well masked ) feature request.

Quote from Adamove :1.Does it support 5.1 sound systems?

No. The sound engine in LFS supports only stereo system. If your speaker configuration differs from this, it's up to your other equipment to prosess the sound further.
Quote :2.I put audio slider all way up (20) the music in menu sound ok but car sounds in game are weak, on headphones it is ok but on 5.1 is weak, How to put it UP!

I got Audigy 2 ZS

There are so many variables that can be cause of that. To mention few, your speakers might not suite very well with the LFS sounds, or there are some driver issues with the sound card, or something like that. At least couple of computer speaker sets that I've seen, totally breaks the sound in LFS.

Quote from Lautsprecher[NOR] :Why are there so few servers running W17?

Isn't it obvious? It's a test patch and for testing use only. You should use patch W17 only if you want to test how the new features work and don't mind possible bugs. It won't take long until next stable patch is released.

I don't think anything incomplete should be taken away. What's the point in that? There's hardly anything complete in this game.

Quote from Alan Dove :There are a few factors that lose LFS me

1. Sound..... that's a VERY important part of a simulation. It's the reason my insides melt when I hear a Ferrari, or when I am driving a kart at 20,000rpm.

As was said before, the sounds got quite nice improvement step in the latest patch. And of course you should buy the S2 licence to hear most of the new sounds, but I can tell you that the GTR cars sound good now.
Quote :2. Feedback....LFS relies to much on visual feedback for basic things like understeer, and oversteer. I never drive a car and think 'ooo look my wheels are turning and I am still going straight. I don't require visual feedback, I 'feel'. LFS, imo, needs to improve on this. (I am still trying different wheel settings)

This certainly shouldn't be the problem in LFS, but it might be matter of taste what kind of feedback you are looking for. Driving with real cars is of course whole different thing than driving car sim. You can't get the same immersion what ever you do (with moderate budjet.)
Quote :3. Tracks.....way way way way way too big, flat, and wide.

You should buy the S2 licence to see the other tracks. Blackwood doesn't represent whole variety of tracks in LFS.

It's strange how much issues some of you have with VSYNC. It would be interesting to see poll about how many people realy have problems with VSYNC and what sort. I for example have always used VSYNC with all my games and haven't had an issue in years because of it. But I guess it's better to leave it off by default in LFS if people gets problems for using it and it's easy to switch on if you prefer to use it.

Quote from JTbo :Also it does not simulate things as LFS, for example engine model they made was complex, but no any computer would run that in real time so they generated data with heavy simulation and game uses this data, unlike some say that there would be proper realtime calculation going on, there is not.

Can you say which is better? I sure can't say if RBR engine model is better or worse than LFS.
Quote :In LFS there is rather simple engine model, but it does run in real time, having for example turbo model, in RBR there was turbo lights but could you really say that it acted like real spinning turbo?

Can you say if turbo in RBR is not acting like real WRC car turbo?

Bigest problems should be fixed first and full throttle start isn't one of them.

Quote from Leprekaun :I just wanted to make a request that if the sounds of the FZ cars and FO8 would be changed because I feel that the pitch of the FO8 is too low. The FZ cars are good but like the FO8, I think they need to have higher pitch. I think if it would be possible to derive the BF1 sound to the FO8, I know they're not the same car but they are quite close (V8 engine) because it doesn't really make sense to have the 2 cars that basically, have the same engine type yet they sound very different.

There are lot of differences in FO8 and BF1 engine. Just because the amount of cylinders are the same, doesn't mean that they produce same kind of sound.

Quote from mkinnov8 :Moderators are thankfully doing nothing, this is a public forum at which Scawen himself has said basically "discuss". So some people repeat the same thing, so what..? I havent really had my say on things yet, but when I do Im sure I'll be repeating what others have said. If it gets too much and Scawen closes the thread, guess what... Thats life, deal with it. Dont you think we have already has SO MUCH since April...

Shouldn't the rules concern everyone? I think no-one should have any special privileges in here. Rules quite clearly says that these threads should be read before posting to them.

I have a few improvement idea for the sounds. First of all, every car should have its own sound enviroinment. Some real car manufacturers have also people tuning the sound enviroinment for the cars (like BMW).
Second, the exhaust sound should be added so that there are more sound behind the car and less at front of the car.
Third. I would like to hear much more higher frequency sounds.

Quote from detail :On my PC, LFS in Wine 0.9.25 gives a message: "probable error in graphics driver".

Have you configured Wine with it's own winecfg (might be wineconfig. I don't remeber exactly.)

It works fine with Wine 0.9.22 that I have tested and probably with newer versions also.

I agree. RBR is propably one of the best offline car sims today and best rally sim ever. It's so fun to drive with your freands using RBRnet.

I bet that AndroidXP is right. Your laptimes shouldn't change at all. Just watch the replay with U and U30 and you should see the difference in speedometer within the same replay.

Quote from Hyperactive :I'm pretty sure that the LFSworld has 0 effect on how many incompatible patches we get. It's all about online compatibility, LFS versions more precisely.

Also the BMW touring thing might be one reason.

Quote from JTbo :Hmm, if that is true it is very impressive, but for me at least it is bit difficult to believe that things are so complex in RBR, but maybe they are, I need sometime examine it better, but currently I have no possibility for this.

Although there is lot of compelx calculations, it doesn't mean that they are all done in real time.

Sound quality is much better now. I don't hear any audible artifacts anymore which sounded earlier like bad resampling issues. Thanks Scawen.

You have to convert the audio to ogg format. It doesn't work if you only rename a file to .ogg. If you know for sure that the audio is in Ogg Vorbis format, it might be too long or something.

Quote from Racer X NZ :As I don't know which codec LFS uses my experimentation ends here but if we knew then experimenting here may help with lag etc.

I don't think that the LFS uses any codecs. I'm quite sure it uses its own codecs for decoding org vorbis and outputs always PCM signal to Windows.
