I'm just curious about your terminology... would you say "overall it's a better sim than LFS" or rather "overall it's a better racing game than LFS"? Mind you I don't play online much, but it's not hard to be a better, more immediately fun racing game than LFS--e.g. Generally destroys LFS in this aspect, though it's not nearly as fulfilling when I'm in "sim" mood.

I really ought to try GTR2 again and maybe rFactor as well, now that I have a G25. Unfortunately I'm short on time with all the schoolwork

I think I'll be cheering for Williams this season. They seem to be closest to a "proper" racing outfit, as opposed to huge corporations running other teams.

Heh, obviously I don't expect to beat any WRs any time soon (or ever ). I was just wondering how badly pads hampered other people's progress, to assure myself that it's not my own suckiness .

Matt, I know about setupfield. Some of those setups amplify the pad's inherent problems though. Seems I'll be literally rediscovering the game with the wheel.

Right :ashamed: I didn't pay much attention to the render, gave it a quick spin in the game instead.

When I go home next weekend, it should be waiting for me . I am currently using an Xbox360 pad with XBCD drivers (so throttle/brake are on separate axes). The main problem with the pad is lack of input smoothness; I think it's the main reason why I hit a brickwall about 6-7 sec off the WR (e.g. in FZR on BL1/RACE_S, in a moment of enlightenment I set a 1.13.03 lap, and I'm pretty sure I could make it stable, but the pad is frustrating enough I don't want to put hours of practice in it).

My question is, what should I expect? I would be really interested to hear others who switched from pads to wheels. What adjustments did you have to make to your driving style? Did it take a long time to acclimatize? Did your times improve, and by how much?

IMHO if you made the stripes dark blue like in the photo, it would look better. I think lime will be "lost" too easily, esp. on a track with everything moving fast.

Minor physics corrections - eh, it's really good as is. I can wait for a proper major update where these minor things will be included as well.

Major physics patch (aero, etc.) - I know a thing or two about fluid dynamics. Implementing aero and not hurting performance pretty much means LFS needs multicore support. I'd guess it requires reworking a lot of things, and won't come till S3.

Damage -- I think damage could be made more proper. I recently borrowed NR2003 and blew a tire when braking too hard. It also has engine overheating. I think these features could be implemented reasonably well at this stage.

Major graphics update -- won't come till S3 Same with sound.

I personally would love to see "Albula" in LFS. What's the copyright situation with it? Will your friend's team allow it in the game? CAN YOU BE THE MIDDLEMAN?!

The more real cars we have, the better LFS's standing in the sim community becomes. Just my opinion.

I think it's only when you are online? (may be wrong). Then LFS automatically updates your LFSWorld account if you set a new PB. The way to avoid other people if you just want to practice alone is to make a hidden server and play there all by yourself.
