Okay, ill keep that in mind when i join mid-race. Did a few races on the server, was lots of fun

Yeah. I found sometimes races can feel a little tense. I find when i join a race midway, and im in the middle of a corner, passers will honk at me and such. I understand it, but at the same time there's nothing for me to do about it at the time. I usually try to hug the corner out so they can pass me then.

Anyways, i attached a replay.

Ive done a couple tracks, learning the breaking points, trying to get better. With the xrg my times: BL GP, my best time is 1:37.8. On SO classic, 1:01.80

These are both about 5 seconds slower than the wr. Im not sure if perhaps I should start putting myself in races, or perhaps trying out more tracks to keep improving. Thanks

Quote from zeugnimod :

I flatshifted all through a 26 lap race on SO Town and the clutch only got red in the last few laps.

It really depends on the car. I find the xrg to be fine flat shifting, the lx6 gets red quick (i used sequential paddles).
Actlabs shifter and G25

My shifter for G25 broke, Im wondering if LFS allows input from both the G25 (steering wheel and pedals) as well as the Act Labs shifter. Thanks

I opened mine to have a look. Kinda wish I didnt, now that I know they have a 2 year guarentee. However if they ask for a receipt or something, I dont know if i have that. Could be in the box.
G25 shifter having trouble

Well I know this does not come as a surprise, but my h gate is having issues. I was driving a bit on the drag strip, then when I shifted into 3rd gear position, it went into 5. Then 1, 3 and 5 were all 5th gear button. I tried to reconfig, but when i put the shifter in anyone of those, it would read the same button number. Any suggestions, or is it probably pooched?

If so, I was thinking of getting this once I have some cash to spare: http://www.act-labs.com/scripts/proddetails.asp?Pid=851 however, I was not sure if it is usable in LFS with the g25 being selected.

Quote from danthebangerboy :i always thought that the best way to drive on lfs is to drive if you were out on a track in real life but i find that doesn't work for me

with real driving, there is the discipline, if thats the right word, not to push too hard. This cannot be applied to lfs because (to mirror what someone else said in another thread a while back,) there is no element of real fear involved when racing in a sim. In lfs, you crash, you lose positions, car breaks, big deal!? If you crash like that in real life, it hurts (ALOT!) and you could really to some damage to yourself, or worse! There isnt that discipline to stop you going too fast or taking big risks in any sim or game.

There's the feel of it that really prevents us from driving too hard. You kind of know whats too much sometimes.

hmm, ill try lowering the amount of force like you did. What make me felt like racing again was watching them do the 24 hr race with the diesel 3 series.

Id rather learn the XRG now, for practice with RWD. I like it better looks wise, and I love challenges. A lot of the time through my turns, I would be braking and healtoe down shifting, not so much engine braking. I found engine braking for the turn did help me slow down quicker, but my times were a little worse cause i wasnt used to it for turn 3 (i think its t3, the one after the long straight). Anyways, heres my replay & setup i use from team inferno.
learning to drive - blackwood gp 1:40 with xrg

When I have played recently, its been more on LTC with the LX6, however after watching some top gear, I feel like learning to really pick up some speed in racing, and perhaps trying CTRA again. I downloaded a setup for the XRG for blackwood off of team inferno, and i did a couple laps following the ingame line a bit, but i was getting mostly 1:40s. Id like to get more around 1:36, 35. Any suggestions on what I should do? Or would you guys like me to upload a replay?
question about heal toe down shifting - G25

Im not entirely sure if im doing it correctly. Do you guys move the shifter say from 3rd to 2nd, and while it goes through the neutral zone, blip the throttle (clutch in the whole time). Or with double clutching? like this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=q_AiBdVJifA&feature=related (not my video)

Quote from Unforgiven :2 Years from now all the servers will be cruise servers except for 1.

I doubt it, its a lot of the big time players that race, i find more casual players like myself go cruising. I tried to get into racing, but I found it a bit too competitive. Some of the drivers would bump me and stuff (even though they had right of way) but because were going through a turn, I couldnt exactly move out of the way.

Quote from Woz :Yep, change Vista for XP

Sorry, could not resist lol

Nah. Ive been using vista business at my work, and its been good so far, no problems. Ive been running vista 64 on my desktop for a week or so now as well, and i haven't had any problems.

I just upgraded to vista 64. Im wondering how the compatibility is with LFS in vista 64 bit, as i havent had time to download the game, nor install my g25. Thanks.

The best argument i find with this is. In a real car you feel it moving. Here you dont feel it, so you do not drive the same. Yesterday on LTC, I was going +210km/h between two barriers barely wider than the car. Many of us also on our first time go too fast into a corner, and slide off the track, often into a wall. If we were really driving, we would drive that fast without knowing things, as our nerves would hold us back. Also when we do go off the track and hit a wall, its more of "do'h!" rather than fear.

my bro wants to get a ps3 and gt5. the way he will hook it up, i can connect my g25 to it (we'll have a desk). Its a very pretty game, but i love the LFS atmosphere. Also, if its only simulation mode that feels real, than thats retarded. It should be the whole game.

Btw just updated the article to make it present a less biased opinion

Wow. Ive made the car do a 180, flipped it in reverse to drive backwards, but thats pretty interesting.

I dunno, i cant imagine anything more than living for SPEED. Sure car control is fun and all. So is a relaxing drive our cruise. But the idea of having a +400whp car, and just pulling hard down a straight. Or going hard through the corners (legally ofcourse) just sounds awesome.
