The complaint's I have is...

I have Driven cars with high performance clutches (high power, low power, race cars, street cars. Not to mention I am a professional automotive technician, with a racing background (including drifting, autox, rallyx, track.). Clutches last a lot longer than in real life than LFS Patch Y... The idea is awesome that you can now burn up the clutch. but the physic's are far from realism. First of all I much would of rather had them employ the car being able to stall rather than wearing the clutch out in 15 seconds.(intentionally)

Cars in lfs are not 150,000 mile cars... every time you enter the track its 100% brand new... being 100% brand new you either have two choices as a developer... should we make the car so you have to break it in (more real) or make it so you have full access to the cars potential from a get go. (better for a game)

Honestly I think a few small changes would make this system work perfectly. The most important one is to make the car stall when appropriate.

On the race cars, they should have race clutches, which are meant for taking long periods of abuse. They should not be wearing out after 10 laps REGARDLESS of how you are driving. Especially the Forumla cars. THEY HAVE PADDLE SHIFTERS there is no clutch they are pushing in and out... Paddle shifters is how they shift their cars in real life, so their clutches in LFS should NOT be wearing out and you should not be able to even push the clutch in because its not there in real life to push in. They don't lift to shift either. and they do 100's of laps without a clutch replacement.

Now for drifting I found it much easier to clutch kick, and I burn my tires up FAR before I burn the clutch up.

Ok I went to nvidia.com and downloaded the latest driver... (it searched for the one I needed itself.)

Anyways I installed rebooted, Tried LFS again...

No dice, actually it dipped almost to 10fps... so i'm going to reinstall a new version of LFS

Thanks for the advice, Although when I upgraded Vista I did upgrade to all the newest drivers/bios's so unless nvidia has a new update in the last month I should have the latest one. I'll double check though

I re-downloaded LFS and I will reinstall see if that helps.

Any other Idea's?
LFS and Vista - FPS problems

Before I had Vista I would get SOLID 90+ FPS...

After I have put Vista on my computer I start off at 40 fps but the first turn I take its down to 20 and it usually stays there and sometimes gets back up to 40 but rarely.

I had 90 solid fps at max res and max grahpics on win xp on same computer setup.

I have a Intel Core 2 2.1 ghz, 2 gig ram 512 meg nvidia grahpics card

a 10k rpm very fast hdd same as before...

even turning EVERY grahpics on lowest setting possible on 1024x768 only nets me maybe 10 extra fps...

and it STILL dips to 20fps alot. its embarssing.

Anyone else have this issue swaping to Vista?

Well it hasn't happened yet :-) maybe that was the key

Quote from ORION :try making a screenshot. I guess what you are describing are artifacts, caused by a problem with the graphics card (mostly by faulty hardware)

It's a new video card 512 meg nvidia... I'll check for updates for it, thanks guys
Screen goes all weird and have to restart

I don't understand why, sometimes when i start Lfs or if I ever switch screens (for instance was in single player and go back to main menu and switch to multi or vise versa) the screen goes weird cant see anything and I basicaly have to restart my computer. even happens if im in game and alt tab back and forth to lfs

Its only sometimes, and lately its been getting more and more frequent... a few months ago it started happening maybe 1 every 20 times I played LFS...

now it happens almost every time I play (not every doing the same thing)

its a fresh install of patch v no mods or anything... couldn't find any other threads with same problem... i was really hoping I would cuz its really pissing me off because I can still navigate through LFS it seems like a video card issue maybe... but it cant be because i never had aproblem for the first few months after my computer upgrade...

its such a annoying problem

Quote from tristancliffe :Well, if your car is meant to be used at WOT lots, then the turbo will be lighter, and freer flowing etc etc. You know the driver will be going from full throttle to no throttle to full throttle.

On a road car, the periods of full throttle are small. So when the driver gets some boost, then lifts, it's unlikely he'll be going back to full throttle. Therefore you use a recirculating dump valve - this means that what little engery you've managed to build up isn't just chucked out of the car needlessly.

The restrictiveness is probably the wrong word. A WRC engine is restricted via a plate somewhere (I forget exactly where, but that's not important for this discussion) in the induction system. So the turbo is designed very differently to a non-restricted engine, simple because the maximum air flow of the system is very different. A larger engine like a Big V8, will have much less breathing problems that a small WRC engine, and that needs to be taken into account of (on top of trying to match the turbo to the power you want, where you want it, what type of driving it'll do etc etc).

Turbo's and their related components are huge sciences. Anyone who looks in a catalogue for Supra Turbo kit, and expects it to work with the rest of his system from a different catalogue, or not exact spec, is deluded to some degree. But being deluded is a necessity for ricing.

Well, thats a different matter. If they used it primarily on the road with a silly body kit then it's rice. If that rice-mobile goes on a track for a track day, then it's still rice. All because of the PRIMARY reason of the car.

LOL you are hilarious, you really know nothing more than the common ricer about turbos, LOL

Quote from tristancliffe :A blow-off valve is the silliest noise that a car can do. Why waste all that compressed air by making a pointless and power reducing noise? Why not get a silent recirculating dump valve, make less noise (and therefore look less like a complete idiot who likes 'phat carz') and actually go faster too.

This does not apply so much on a race circuit where you want to keep the turbo spinning as fast as possible, are using high engine revs and WOT most of the time, so boost build up is very rapid. Much like WRC cars. Which is why they make that silly noise, and makes the cars sound like malfunctioning toys.

umm actually thats why rally cars have Misfire Anti-lag System

Since you obviously dont know it basically is inducing engine misfire under deacceleration, which is why boost pressure is maintained resultlting in quicker acceleration which is why most if not all rally cars use this, (well last time i checked they did)

Quote from ATHome :By the way: Some of you might have the missing dll already in their windows\system32 folder, its just not registered...

To do so:

Start
Run

and then type in (or copy from my reply)

regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\MSSTDFMT.dll

I downloaded the dll and put in the the system32 folder and tried that line your wrote...

still doesnt work... same error...

and trying the regsvr32 doesn't work even if the file is there... any suggestions?
