Quote from matze54564 :I bought now a A6-6310 Quad-Core APU 20Watt. LFS running only in minimal-configuration. But i dont understand why it is using only 25% CPU, and 25 % GPU? Multicore-Rendering is maybe not supported. I tested also Half Life 1, this run so good like in my old power consumtion system with one CPU. Half Life 2 - i have the test not finished - dont know anymore how many CPU was used, but it run not so good and AA and AF is not supported and should be disabled.

Its is using probably 25% cpu because its quad core and lfs supports only one core (and one core preformance for your CPU is weak, but it does a bit better when some applications uses multi core), im not sure about its gpu how it works but well... but it's pretty poor preformance for a quad core CPU i have to say, it will be okay for web browsing, HD or Blueray movies.
About gpu in this cpu is that it has poor preformance for modern gaming too...
Im not sure if LFS uses well pixel shaders but if not then this gpu won't be any good at gaming.
Also im not sure if this gpu in your cpu supports dual channel but from my actual informations it does not support dual channel memory... Well even this CPU might not use dual channel memory at all...

Quote from Racer X NZ :A pointless arguement but why not .......

A GPU is generally referring to a discrete add on card, whilst an IGC is always referring to Intel processor based graphics. As indeed do Intel themselves, see above.
Whilst both are strictly speaking GPU's, it clarifies matters to split the Intel processor based IGC's from the discrete card based GPU's.

GPU isn't really reffering to a add on card. GPU chips are present since people found out that strong CPU isn't everything you really need but they called it Graphics chips back then. Actual consoles have a GPU from AMD radeon/jaguar but that not means they are add on cards and still they are "GPU" but integrated.

Quote from Racer X NZ :
Here's PC world on the subject..." Champions for discrete graphics usually tout one major benefit: performance. All but the lowest-end video card will have a far more powerful GPU than what you’ll find inside a CPU. What’s more, the card will provide its GPU with a dedicated pool of high-speed memory. An integrated GPU, in contrast, must share both system memory and the data bus. You can usually crank up a game’s visual quality settings with a discrete GPU, and it will still run circles around integrated graphics."
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2139341/tested-why-almost-every-pc-could-use-a-video-card-upgrade.html

Basicly, if you would rather game with an intergrated graphics controller rather than an add on card, good luck and have fun.

This comment on Steam sums it up.
"... because a toaster has better graphic rendering capabilities than an integrated graphics card.
Games that are being released now far exceed integrated graphic card capabilities even on low settings."

I have to say that intel HD graphics 4600 which you can find on for example desktop version of intel I5 4550 or 4570 and its pretty powerfull GPU. I'have tested it on a friends new Dell PC where he can't put any bigger gpu and i proved him his radeon (cant remember model.. something 6xxx) was a little bit worse compared to integrated GPU found in his CPU. He had 16gb of ram in dual channel which helped to get more juice of integrated GPU (size of ram doesn't matter that much, for integrated GPU's dual channel ram is a big boost).

On a benchmarks HD 4600 from intel integrated GPU is nearly as good as Nvidia GTX 560 TI which was/is acutally a powerfull budget GPU.

And on a PC with that I5 4550 or i5 4570(even without K) with 16GB ram dual channel and HD graphics 4600 we were playing smoothly GTA 5 on medium settings with 35-60 FPS and no lower than 30-35 which is enough for a decent playability.

So if you have a Cpu like this i don't see any reason for buying something similar to GTX 560 ti or GTX 750.

in the game
- set display functions to use low res for all textures
- reduce size of Westhill dds files from 2048x2048 to 512x512

This actually never helps and when im setting track textures it only gains 1 maybe 2 fps so its actually useless because there is no real gain in fps and its only looking worse when you set it on low. And i actually have lower fps in compressed textures so im using full textures because there is more fps and looking better. Tryied even default or alternative shadows and fps was same on both (read: fps was low). I did it on a paused game as it should be ofc.

Well about new shading system... I think it could improve frame rates if this new shading system won't be too much complicated Wink. I mean most integrated gpu's nowadays have pixel shader. For example my laptop from 2009 with intel integrated gma x4500mhd and this gpu has 8 or 10 pixel shader units, its not much (low end dedicated gpus have like 100+ pixel shader units) but in games which will use it i see some gain from that. I was afraid some newer games will run very poorly but a lot of them (race 07 or need for speed world) which uses pixel shader i got stable 30-40fps on very low details.
Without pixel shader i guess it will be like 5-15fps less.

Quote from Abone :Scawen, FPS still drop in new Westhill. I think you do not want to fix it... Good luck

Well there are fps drops still. I didn't make full tests of 0.6h and im not sure if you devs made some improvement on this thing but for a first look i think (but can't be 100% sure without full testing) there is no more game freezes (at least for me) in those 3 places i've mentioned.

Quote from Scawen :An occasional frame rate loss has been reported by several people. For some reason apparently the CPU is randomly switching to power saving mode. I don't know of any way to avoid that, but I believe you can avoid it with your settings.

Well for me it only happens in 3 places (on the westhill international) and it's probably not cpu power saving mode, i have always everything on 100%. (even with turned off cpu termal throttling in bios).
Basically if people have good or average pc 100fps+ and on that 3 places of the track which i've posted before in my previous post they have drops to around 60-70fps and they don't think its bad because they still have 60-70fps which is still very comfortable to play.

But if someone have older pc (or poor gpu like mine) then it drops from my average 30-40fps which i have (and that's fps its quite okay for most track) to even 15-20fps at those places which is not so good then. For me (and my poor integrated gpu) those places of the track are:
1. entry of the last corner at westhill international (drops from 40-60fps to 20-25)
In the middle of the corner somehow its going back to 40-60fps.
2. exit of the last corner at westhill international (when exiting from last turn and looking at main straight) again drops to 20-25fps.
Well in the main straight from pit entry to the first corner again somehow its back to 30-40fps which is ok for me.
3. First turn at the westhill international here it sometimes drops to even 15fps or less if more cars is in the race (but when driving alone it drops to like 15-20fps)

I think that might be a thing that in those places there is much things or objects to render maybe, and it needs to render them now and sometimes (mainly at first turn) game freezes a little (0.1s-0.5s). As sayed before, without that 3 places where fps hugely drops rest of the track is great and there is no fps drops and the rest of the track at my poor integrated gpu is around 30-40fps and sometimes even goes to around 80fps Wink.

Oh and almost forget, with lower resolution track textures (it quite helps) game not freezes (at least not when driving alone) but that fps drops still not gone away and it didn't fixed my problem with fps drops.

Well tryied out with lower resolution of the textures and it helped a little and probably there is no freezes anymore but still when entering into last corner (here i have 23-28fps) of westhill international (in the middle of the turn i've got 60fps) then exiting from last corner with a view at the main straight (20-25fps)(then in the main straight fps goes back to normal 40fps) and somewhere in first turn still im noticing those fps drops at around 18-25fps. At any other track with or without high res textures i had stable 30-40fps on my rig. Just in those 3 places of the track it drops to 25 or even to 18fps, and as i sayed anything other than those 3 places to me seems to be 30-40fps and more (sometimes even 80fps).

Track is better than i thought (not so boring as astons), whole infrastructure of the track is great and most awesome thing for me is that two karting tracks Smile
but im not sure about track optimalisation if its finished at this point or do you plan to fix some of it a little in future, i mean no my Dell latitude e4300 there are some huge fps drops/freezes sometimes (mainly at the first turn of the main westhill track goes below 20fps and sometimes its even freezes for a little). At the rest of the track fps for a laptop like this fps are good, from like 25/28fps minimum and i think around 30-40fps average on the track which is really good Wink.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :

It's a shame they got rid of the "nail it or die" chicane @ 0:42. That was the only challenging part of the track. The one @ 1:24 looks good though...

Well... whole track isn't "yolo" style anymore. Its a bad news as every time if i had some fast track which was "nail it or die" in other games I always sayed: "ahh its a westhill like track".
Now "its just like westhill" died for me.

From the other side, it will be whole new experience to drive a new track, there is progress and something is happening Wink

Quote from sinanju :Maybe put an extra tab on the top of the forum page for 'Leagues'?

This is in the works and I'm aiming to introduce the first version very soon.

Well this is a good idea. Since 2006 (well maybe since 2008 when i got s2) i was smart enough to find some leagues for me. But i think there could be very little something more like a league pyramid.
I mean if someone is interested in endurance leagues and then he gets sorted only endurance leagues and then its sorted for example from "top" league through middle to lower ends. That might help someone who wanted to go to the "top" but he doesn't know when to drive first (in which league to begin and gain experience). Also LFS could be better organised in this area.
Just like in real life, you know if you want to be in Formula 1 you have to start from karting then some formula 2000 or F3/GP3 then F2/GP2 or world series by renault and then F1.
At the moment someone in LFS might not have an idea how to get to the "top" leagues or at least what league will suit him and his skills.

Of course it probably isn't main thing for now, but i think it could be very nice and very usefull to have something like that in future.

So you're telling me that different classes of cars have different physics? Interesting...

You can't read or you probably dont understand that someone can make "mod x" to rFactor and in this mod he can also modify physics of the game and then it has nothing similar with default game physics. I saw some drift mods for example and they have other physics than original in game physics just to make drifting easier. Well yes there are mods which only adds cars and tracks to rFactor and they use original physics, but there is alot mods where creator of the mod might think real cars doesn't drive like what it is in original rF and makes his own physics.

Quote :People in this community still do give a damn, you just can't hear them for all the complaining. You are doing a disservice to those who do still give a damn by implying that no one in the LFS community gives a damn.

Sorry, I should have been specific. I mean developers and people who create content for rFactor still give a damn. The LFS devs don't care if they get it out this week or any given week years from now because that's how their development cycle works. Scawen has said it multiple times.

Tryied rFactor and pretty much all bigger mods have diffrent physics from eachother (so you play one game with 5 diffrent physics) and when modding is so much easy then its even easier to have other racers with "faster" cars then you but they might look like the same and so called "cheating" isn't that hard anymore in a modded game billions of times.
Thats why you can't modify LFS, its to prevent from cheating and having more fun from just racing.

Quote from rychlyjaromir :Notice the difference in attitudes of developers towards community: iRacing and AC: "You can play our games!" LFS: "You can play other games..."

Thats because they know their sims sucks (iR,AC) and they want you to play it because too much money already was dumped in those products and they need to make profits, here devs knows they have something unique and diffrent from any other sim racers and they know they have a good product and they safely can say "play other sims with no worries, if we finally add new content we know you will be back here sooner or later" Big grin
Or from the other side, if i was a dev i think i couldn't handle all those ppl saying my product is shit and release new content etc. when im doing my best. If you want to get a good product just wait patiently, if not just play other ones.

Personally i like to get one good patch instead of getting a ten crappy patches which fix one thing and ruin 5 and always "we fix them all soon" and then never fix it and instead of fixing it most devs are just adding another new content for real money like new cars and tracks because 100% working games doesn't make any profit, they just need to be at a decent level of working and then lets just add content for real money as long as some ppl will eventually understand some game fixes are needed. This is actually a situation in 80-90% of racing games today. Most things you got today its just a flashy graphics half-product which wasn't made to the end but it had to be released in its prime time for more money income. for example "The Crew" game.

You can say im frustrated and im defending devs but at the end its their product made from enthusiasts to enthusiasts and they are working on their on with their pace which suits them best.
Its not a game corporation which needs to sell their product in every possible way to make profit.

Laptop: Dell Latitude E4300
(originally came up with Windows Vista Business)

light and very solid magnesium chassis (and pretty much 90% of laptop was made with magnesium)
professional matte LG/Philips 13,3 inch screen (internal and only this screen cost nearly same as whole laptop)
bulit in Smart Card reader
optional Backlight keyboard
optional Contactless Smart Card reader
optional Fingerprint reader / swipe sensor
optional Logitech internal webcam
optional 3G network card with bulit into a laptop sim card slot
Intel Core 2 Duo SP 9400 @ 2,40 ghz/2,53 ghz turbo per each core (it can be even Overclocked and running @ 3,16 ghz !!!)
2GB Ram DDR3 1066 (dual channel)
Intel GMA graphics X4500 MHD (its name sounds like GPU on steroids but it only gets 837 points in 3D mark 06 with Xp and 979 points with win 7 x64)
and two 250GB Hard Drives (one with Xp professional 32bit and one with Windows 7 x64 ultimate)

And best thing about this laptop is i bought it nearly a year ago for only around 12 pounds/18 euro and everything works!
(seller didn't had andy Ram on it and didn't had any PSU to check if its working)

Well on a Hotlap mode in LFS with latest patch i've got minimum fps at around 35-40 FPS in XP, and around 45 FPS minimum in windows 7 x64. But when driving with more than one cars (or many cars) it drops to around 25 FPS. Still i think its not a bad result for a professional business laptop which clearly wasnt made for gaming.

New Test patch is good, I have better frame rate on my Dell Latitude E4300. On AS3 with 1280x800 (max resolution for my laptop) no AA and I get 45 fps minimum on a single player. 35 fps minimum with same settings on BL1 which is very playable now for Hotlapping mode in a single player.

But I have to point out this laptop Have poor integrated Graphics. I actually got 837 points in 3d mark06 which is really poor result for a gaming machine, modern laptops with dedicated graphics have from around 4-5 thousand points to a 10k.

Without this patch I've had similar or 3-5fps worse performance but on 0.6G i played with little bit lower resolution 1024x768 (well now with actual patch i could change to a higher resolution and still I feel its better).

Also optimizing a game on/for a poor integrated laptop graphic cards is kinda like turd polishing and its very hard and seems like impossible to get anything better out of it but I hope Devs can make it happen to give me a minimum of 60 fps at each track on a Hot lapping mode Wink

I guess there is still much more to gain from direct x9 which we have now in LFS. Wink

Thats very sad news indeed... I couldn't believe when I saw it...
I will always remember our car testings together... And as all above already mentioned he was very focused on sim racing... he had his big input in 2nd place result for Vires in GT2WS 2012 or 13 (can't remember). He helped us back then and he was driving in every free moment whole week and I remember if he could drive that round then he would even make a qual record lap at we1 and it probably will be first 1:33 on we1 in gt2 fzr car...
well also remember when he was in 3id and came to me for a good setups, he knew I had very good ones for bl1r and so4r setup he took them and Joe tweaked them a little and he was really fast on those setups. He was really angry when he did't got PP in bl1r because set and everything was top and he just didn't have enough luck back then, but at so4r he did an official qual record in my set which was tweaked a little by Joe again (can't remember if its still an official qual record).
We both were similar, he wanted to be the fastest driver and i wanted to be one of the best setup makers and we did a lot of setup testings to very late hours... we had our ups and downs but he was a good friend at all and we could talk about everything after all our car setup work...
Its fantastic feeling when you create car and give it to someone like Tomek and then he's just flying with it and you didn't even knew before this car can go faster than you thougt it can.

https://scontent-a-cdg.xx.fbcd ... 29710546_1453762852_n.jpg

this picture was originally taken by him as a gift to me which was to be a memorial that he raced in my team too... but I didn't even thought that I will use this foto for a thing which just happened way too fast...
Atleast I hope you've meet up there with your idol Senna...

Then maybe we should whine about the Porsche Boxer too. Just to be safe.

Do you know that Electronic Arts has 100% licence from Porsche on their cars?
Thats why if any other game than need for speed owns a Porsche its maybe a 1 or 2 models, bigger games like Gran Turismo or Test Drive or Forza or any other makes RUFs because buying some rights from EA its really expensive.
