The online racing simulator
Quote from DeadWolfBones :Just did some more testing (Lotus Evora GTC + Mugello). Framerate seemed pegged at 30fps except in the last sector of the track, where it often dipped to about 20fps. Again, this is with Boris's settings and all apps off (except render stats).

Hmm mine in pegged at 90-100fps, but I don't limit them and my GFX card is not the greatest....it will do but nothing to shout about

this games multiplayer is just ****ing shit
Quote from DeadWolfBones :I only use OV1 and the F1 HUD. Turned them both off and it didn't seem to make much difference.

Tried Boris's settings and the difference wasn't as big as I thought it'd be (with one car on track, anyway), but it was still a slideshow vs. what I had before (when it wasn't stuttering).

Boris, I hadn't been using a framerate limiter, but I set it to 60 fps and it didn't seem to make any difference.

You have to delete the F1 HUD altogether! I didn't have it on screen either, but it still killed the performance.
Quote from Fordman :I haven't posted it on AC forum Sinbad...made that mistake in the past, only posted here, and yes, what you posted was more constructive, I agree, but you get my point...Where is the balance here, there isn't any. Official we have 1 FWD car, and what a car to choose, a FWD Fiat...FIAT..come one, but a little bit of balance would be fantastic, a dream I guess, but more RWD...ok I apologise, I didn't mean the word "Bollocks" but at least you knew what I ment...as in more RWD, drifting.....great

Fordie

PS - I beg to differ Sinbad, you read the threads about FWD cars being made from Modders, and people are raving about them, so you comment, people / public don't want FWD is wrong

http://www.assettocorsa.net/fo ... you-to.13403/#post-226001 I think this is you, no? That's where I posted support of the idea (but for a different reason to yours).

To be honest, people rave about anything and everything mod wise. Find me a thread announcing content of acceptable standard that isn't met with giggles of excitement. That doesn't mean people would swap LaFerrari for Laguna.

I'm not really in either "camp". It's all pixels to me, I'm sat still either way. I suppose I just like cars that are interesting in some way (sometimes that interest is that they're so ordinary, which is strange when I think about it, but something like a Volvo 850 Estate on the Nordschleife is more interesting to me than an 458GT3 at Silverstone.) The Toyota list interesting. A stock Supra for better or worse, a stock Celica (which version?) an AE86 (cult car very evocative if you have any interest in Japanese car culture) and the GT86 which is by all accounts a really good car and could provide good online racing (in a proper online racing sim). Except nobody will drive it online because they care about "going fast" so why drive the slow version with skinny tyres and no grip if there's a race version? And nobody will drive the stock versions of the other cars because AC just offer these tuned stages, and very few people are interested in the slower version with crappy tyres. Only car I don't find interesting is the LMP, they're just meh in sims imo.

So in answer to your post. Look how many people are racing the Fiat 500 online. Fwiw I'm closer to your viewpoint than theirs.
Quote from Fordman :oh feckin great, more Jap RWD drive cars

For the record - Celica is not a RWD car, unless it's the old one from 70ties. It's either FWD or 4WD,no idea what modification will be included.
Quote from Boris Lozac :You have to delete the F1 HUD altogether! I didn't have it on screen either, but it still killed the performance.

Ok, deleted all mod apps. Still pegged at 30fps (roughly) when running your settings at 1080p.
Wow, have no idea what it is then. It definitely shouldn't be like that. Maybe some process or a virus is eating your performance..
i use vsync off and at around 60 frames . i changed to this today coz i got massive lag online when a car was close to me. i7 3770k gtx 760...
I use almost the lowest setting possible, but even with this, my FPS vary from 90 (limited) to less than 30 while playing online...

Have they not listened to or read some of the threads...FWD....FWD !!!! we want more, but yet they go super car, or this RWD bollocks, that we have more than enough to throw a stick at.....

I thought AC was going to be a sim designed on "what the public, people " wanted and be balanced

Maybe ask for refund.
---
As for fwd cars I'd love to see 60s mini or some xfr/UFR type of car. Even integra type r would be nice. Although I'd probably enjoy any decent rwd car more.
Quote from DeadWolfBones :So I'm currently running a Core i5 2500K processor and an AMD HD 6950 video card. In AC, I'm getting occasional brief freezes and framerate fluctuations, even on original Kunos tracks and cars. I'm running with 2X AF/AA, very high detail, low shadow res, normal mirror res, normal smoke, and effects turned off.

So I think it's time for an upgrade.

Anyone got any tips as to which upgrade would offer the most bang for the buck? (I'm assuming GPU, but you never know.) I'd like to keep my overall upgrade budget under US $300.

I have 6950 (windows 8.1+ i5-4440) as well and I don't get freezes. Or I did once straight after some of the patches but I think it was either join lag or simply fps stutters when driving past the pits filled with high poly cobras. My freezes only happened online. Do you get the freezes offline too? Have you ran any unofficial ati tools to turn off the view frames forward thing?

Definitely happens more online.

Anyway, those fps numbers I quoted were offline and while I wasn't getting any freezing I'm definitely not getting the fps I want to get with the graphics I want to run. So what's a good mid-to-high-end GPU these days under $300 USD?
AC ran well for me on a GTX 760 (even better now with SLI'd 760's). GTX 770 is a hair over $300 I think and (theoretically) would run it even better.

They had a public poll for the "public" to vote on what cars they would like included. It's quite clear that people who want FWD cars are of the minority.

Fordie

Wow.

If FWD cars is all that "the public" wants , there would be tons of mods featuring them - but there aren't, because 99% of FWD cars are horrible and boring to drive as they're primarily designed for people who don't have the slightest idea of vehicle dynamics.

Personally, I'm chuffed about this update. I think an SW20 MR2 would have been a better choice over the (FWD?) Celica, but great lineup as it is. I really didn't expect an AE86 or a MK4 Supra to be included officially, but I'm glad they are.
Wow, great!

Unless it's old super saloon's or BTCC cars, leave the FWD's out of it. RWD is where the fun is.
Quote from Matrixi :Wow.

That's mostly because people are waiting for solid axle physics needed for typical hot hatch live rear axles. There are exploits allowing extreme forms of DWB act as a solid unit, but those rarely work realistically.
Same with the handfull of 99% finished rally cars waiting for AWD physics. . The expected quality for mods is really high already.

And all people are on about is diversity. We have a diesel race truck already and someone is building a Top Fuel dragster
Yet there are no mods of actual nice FWD cars like DC2 Integra, which uses dual wishbones all around and could be implemented in AC right now.

But I guess they would be "jap crap" too.

Sounds like Fordman's concept of "the public" does not include the 15 years old crashers who boost testosterone levels with Ferrari sound clips and have no clue about driving techniques*.

Unfortunately democratic voting alone won't help getting rid of those when they are the majority to begin with. Kunos did try to suppress them a bit with their last title. SCi arguably did the same with RBR, by being indifferent on the marketing front (so did our devs?). We all know what happened.

* I didn't say those who understand driving should prefer FWD or anything. But compared to 15yr crashers those driving-dynamics-aware are much more likely to show a appreciation for good FWD cars.
Nobody is hating on japanese cars there Scroll through this list, plenty of japanese cars in the works. But it takes time. You could of course go the easy way and help yourself to a readily available model from Forza, DiRT or whatever and build your physics for that. Would be illegal tho (like the Escort, M3, Civic and Golf Mk3 available for download in this thread ...)
Hi guys, PLayerZone servers are ready! Free access, no booking, no pwd and 1gb/s connection.

See you on track

Cool, thanks for that list ACCAkut, never seen that before. There is some great one's in there, just hope the physics matches drivability

And just to confirm, I don't hate RWD or single seaters for that matter, just IMO we have enough to throw a stick at already, so a bit more variety (more single seaters for example, like a FF1600) or the like would be a great welcome....Not everything has to have ,000's of horse power to be fun. I just wanted to add, that I have a family background with Grass Roots/low budget racing, but never had the opportunity to do it myself. There has only been one game that did this, and that was Toca 2 (Formula Ford and Fiesta's) all other sim's (not tried RFactor2) concentrated on high end, high powered cars, GT's and F1, so it's not a case of I don't like them, it is my personal preference and a hole in the market that has been missed for a very long time.

PS - Talking of which (FF1600) why didn't Kudos convert their own car from Netkar Pro. I never tried it, just saw videos and that looks fun
ANOTHER KRAUT RWD CAR!?! CMON KUNOS GIVE THE PEOPLE THE SHITTY ECONOBOXES THEY WANT!!!
