Update again!
Went to "NetOnNet" yesterday, and got a good price on the E8500..

...
processor: intel core 2 duo e8500 3.16ghz
...
You'll need a new Motherboard and maybe some new RAM. Your GPU is okay. Enough for LFS...

MoBo = Asus P5Q-E - i recommend you that one. (Best BANG for the buck)
RAM = 2x 1GB DDR2-800 - G.Skill, OCZ, Corsair, Kingston - should be okay for you.

FPS: 400-500 on full graphics
CPU: AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core PT
OS: Windows Vista Home Preium 64-bit
8 Gigabytes of DDR2 - 1GhZ
Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX , two of them actually

I have something else but I don't know

400-500 fps with that CPU? hm.

Agreed, I have a phenom 9600 oc'd to 2.5 and I dont get over 200 very often. dual 9800gt's also btw.

What resolution are you running at?

well that's the about full resolution "22 widescreen

But I have a Nvidia Control Panel on full on Performance

Anyway, if you don't believe it, I can put a picture from it, but only tomorrow, because I am not on that computer anyway

EDIT: my CPU is overcloked to 3,0GHz but can´t put anymore

EDIT: I got my point from Vista 6.6
Doesnt really matter, if you have your CPU clocked to 3Ghz you`re not gonna hit 400-500 FPS. Since LFS is not supporting multi core`s your quad doesnt help at all. So if you have a good graphic card it doesnt matter, the max of FPS in LFS is depending totally on CPU. Since your clock isnt that high you wont be abe to get 400-500 FPS on just one core and 2 graphic cards. Also SLI isnt supported by LFS.
:headbang: 500 FPS eh?

Had to test what it takes to reach that magic number..

4.5ghz E8600 with highly overclocked 4870..
All settings max + 1680x1050 with 4xAA 8xAF

Went to westhill hotlap alone with MRT and FPS was jumping between 330-480, but never went up to 500 in normal driving condition with cockpit view.. But shift+u helped and if you weren't too close to your car, FPS actually jumped to 500+

Conculsion, you need mucho power to reach 500!

PS. screenie included

the money spent for the computer to reach that is money wasted. seeming the game clocks out at around 100 fps, 50 is just a waste.

In Vista the most you can get without editing files is 5.9. Check your facts

Yes, looking out over the landscape makes the FPS jump up alot.
I got 700+ while just looking over the car out to the left over a fence :P

OT: Nothing new in my comp.. a Coolermaster V8 coming soon, and also an Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo for the GFX...

If by that you mean WIE (i.e. the PC rating thingy) then I call BS as it's limited to 5.9 (or 7.9 on Windows 7...)

Well, I usually have my fps capped at 500 on any track. It doesn't go any higher, nor any lower than 400 while in singleplayer. Even in multiplayer I get 400-500 with 1-2-3 cars around. It just never went above 500

PS: with E8200 @ stock clocks.

tbh guys what temps do you get with lfs on 500fps? because more fps you have higher temps you get

The more important question, IMHO, is how much higher is the rendering frame rate than the refresh rate of the monitor? What's the point in getting huge framerates when you could just increase the resolution, level of detail or AA/AF and still get a framerate above that of the monitor?

Ever heard of e-pen
The physics are updated 100 times a second, so everything above 100 FPS is a waste of power! If you run LFS on a TFT 60 FPS is the maximum you´ll see, so cut the FPS at 62 or 66.
Yes just to make clear, this "500fps test" had nothing to do with actual gaming settings.. was just for a laugh

PS. I don't even use this pc to play LFS

Running with maxed out settings, 8xAA and 16xAF. I think my high fps is because of the resolution i use (1280*768).
back to rigs:

New parts:

Intel E8400 3ghz (no overclock)
ATI Radeon HD 4650 512mb
4 GB ram (2X2GB)
Gigabite Motherboard (dunno which 1)

Origional parts (~7 years old!)
some old 80GB hard drive
HP Pavilion t250 case :P

Looks terrible, seems 16bit IMO.

LOL? No the temps dont get higher cause of higher fps.. i stay steady at ~37°C when viewing 400+ fps in lfs.. so thats just BS..

i limit the fps to 100 when driving just cause of the physics update rate @100hz...

EDIT: did a test.. even tho its windowed, uncapped fps stay @ ~240 fps.. cpu temp @ 32/35°C and the GPU @ 52°C
idle: cpu = 30°C and GPU @51°C.
ive managed to get 500fps with my rig (see above) but thats at 640x480, everything on low, includint textures, not looking at the car (shift+u)

EDIT: and this at 1280x1024, with AF/AA at MAX..

Post your "LFS" rig..
