Ahh, the nostalgia! :dazzersmi Haven't seen some of those names in over four years!

Nuse is right. IMO there ain't no stitch of Rx-7 or 944 in it. The real-life Starion may have alluded to the porshe 944 a bit (or vice versa) as they were both introduced in 1982.

The Rx-7 is in a league of its own, though. I can't even consider it.

It's like comparing an engelmann spruce tree to a sitka. Then you Rx-7 people come along and say Oh, look! a fir tree looks just like em! The LFS Christmas tree must be copying all three!

You see, one thing you must understand is: if the similarity is there in real life, it doesn't mean the XR is copying both! It's also possible that any differences from the Starion are unintentional, or merely to keep from being sued by someone.

So. Even if it is realistic that the chin spoilers on LFS GTR cars can be adjusted--is a full 15° realistic? or putting degrees aside, is it realistic that they can be adjusted enough to make that profound of a difference?

I'm not too sure, but I think one or two of the cars in LFS is an open-wheeler.

Edit: I think this issue is quite obvious because the only time you change an R2/R1 is because it's overheating. Who pits to change tires because they're too hot and not because they're worn out? "QUICK, BOYS! GET A SET OF COLD TIRES ON HERE!" Remember how much 2005 F1 tires cooled down during a quick pit stop? They said it was almost like putting on a new set of tires, temp wise. So, they were hard compounds (if that's really supposed to make that much of a difference), but still...

Edit 2: (P.S.) on a similar note, are super-hot tires really that much more slippery IRL? or do they just wear out a whole lot faster? has anyone had any experience with melting tires? It just seems to me that it would become more and more like glue the hotter it gets till it just gets shredded. At least moreso than in LFS. Do draggers worry about overheating their tires? or do they b/o in that rubber solvent anywhere near long enough?

Only for the formula cars. In fact, the GTRs' don't look adjustable at all--especially the front, yeah?

On a similar note, shouldn't we have a Monza wing for the BF1?

Sure it is: you can always tell faster traffic that you're about to let them by; what side to pass on.

...now if only we got high beams to show up in rear-view mirrors!

Well, if all else fails, at least paddle-shifting in the BF1 should be easy to animate. Surely Eric has at least put some thought into this. I would not be surprised if something's already in the works.

P.S. (mrodgers) some of us drive with mice.

Quote from duke_toaster :TC only in cars that would have it IRL.

Huh? How could one possibly worry about that in LFS? Realistically, the RB4, FXO and GTI should have some kind of TC. By this are you trying to say that the FZ50 should not have TC? Or are you trying to say that you worry LFS will one day become an arcade game?

If a car in LFS got TC, which shouldn't have it (say, an LX), people would soon be picketing outside of Scawen's house.

Quote from George Kuyumji :Montoya lost his car twice with warm tyres tryieng to make that "shakedown" before the Restart. It is not that easy to throw a F1 car around like some LFS drivers seem to think.

Twice--out of how many starts? and practices? And he's the extreme case; I'm sure there have been many instances when any one of us could have driven better than JPM.

F1 drivers are not gods. The motors (even engines) are usually more reliable than they are.

Negatory.

§73 f) "The only permitted type of tyre heating devices are blankets which use resistive heating elements" (in other words, same as MMVI).

I think they're probably driving slower IRL than you would feel comfortable doing in LFS when they're doing that (what, 50ks?); and only on straights--not in mid-corner. I find it pretty easy to reproduce--and even wilder than they would dare IRL.

P.S. maybe because I'm a mouse driver? ...

P.P.S. TEST DRIVE III FTW!!

Quote from sinbad :Certain things, steering lock and brake force for example, are very controller dependant, so the option to adjust those should never be removed whatever else is added (imo).

BUT...I like the idea of fixed setup racing. Wouldn't it be fun to race the road-cars with road-car setups for a change? Screw laptimes It would (almost) be like having a whole extra garage of cars to use. If I can't adjust my driving to fit the car as quickly/well as you can, then you're better in that car than I am, simple as that.

Only mature response

Yes! If you could bind these to the mouse buttons or something it would encourage politely letting faster traffic know which way you're planning on getting out of the way.

I agree with Tweak.

After all, we have them right here on the forum...

If one argues against such a notion, one may as well argue against user names. I want to race against other people; not cars.

Also, a lot of players already use their nation's colours in their user names--and nothing's going to stop you from seeing that. If they got to put a flag somewhere on the car (which you could turn off) you wouldn't ever have to know where they're from.

A long long time ago I made a thread asking the devs to remove the wing or give it a different one.

They did.

I'm satisfied.

Groom Lake, A.K.A. "Area 51" (37°14'12.08"N 115°48'20.31"W) might be popular. It has a 4.5 mile (7.3 kilometer) runway, and a simple desert backdrop.

Did someone say something about cutting corners?

Quote from Fordman :Well the way I understand this is.

Clockwise is faster to have RHD
Anti Clockwise is LHD

Also add to this is:

Most corners left hand then LHD is better
Most corners right hand, then RHD is better

Its all about weight distribution. This opinion is only what i have heard and not quoting from anybody. It maybe the wrong way around, but as far i know its correct

Fordie

Except, for example, the most pivotal corners on the clockwise blackwood course (exit speed before straights) are left-handers. I'm sure there's one or two oddballs more in the mix.

Quote from tristancliffe :Close the throttle suddenly, and the engine will run lean (not rich) which causes the popping.

I think you (and not just you) must be confusing backfiring (intake), with afterfiring (exhaust).

Quote from wikipedia :Backfire in an automobile engine typically results from various malfunctions related to the air to fuel ratio. Usually, backfiring occurs in carbureted engines that are running lean where the air fuel mixture has insufficient fuel. ("Running lean" is typically a sign of mal-adjusted carburetors or fuel injection where there is not enough fuel for the amount of air). Afterfire, occurs in engines that have an emission system malfunction (air injection system diverter valve), exhaust leak or unburnt fuel in a decatted exhaust system. When a driver shifts up and lets off the gas, the engine has a moment of running rich or with insufficient oxygen. This causes an incomplete burn which causes the fumes to explode in the exhaust system. The leak itself is the most dangerous aspect. Without it, the mixture would cool enough not to explode. A fuel injected engine may backfire if an intake leak is present (causing the engine to run lean), or a fuel injection component such as an air-flow sensor is defective.
