Just for reference in this thread:

Compare Ferrari's wingless, spoilerless '99 360 Modena to Porsche's '00 911 to see that JTBo is well on the ball.

Quote from ajp71 :How are the officers meant to know that a 911 spoiler operates at 75mph? Even if they do how can they guarantee the system is working.

Yeah; I wasn't really trying to suggest that cops keep their eyes peeled for Porsche wings. That was tongue-in-cheek. Even if the wings could only pop up at that speed.

Right, I was just making fun of the dumb excuses cops make to pull people over in LA. We have a law where you can't be fined unless the cop has a reason to pull you over, i.e. he must first use his own speedometer or a radar to verify that you are speeding. If you blow past a parked cop at twice the limit you're fine as long as he wasn't pointing a radar gun at you (and provided you slow down before he does--or he catches up to you). I knew a guy who got caught with a lot of drugs in his car but got off scot-free because "looking suspicious" wasn't a good enough reason to get pulled over.

I also agree with JTbo. Cars should get undertrays; diffusers &c. before they get comparatively gasoline-wasting wings.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :The wing is built in when the car goes over like 75 mph it rises from the engine cover (Just a little spoiler)

That is so not cool. If a cop sees you with the wing up that's enough 'probable cause' for him to pull you over and give you a ticket regardless of other circumstances!

Oh, and the FZ don't need no stinkin' wing. I'd sooner have it off of the GTR.

Lucky to have a demo at all. You must have no idea how long we played the demo (being much worse at the time) quite happily while we waited for S1.

Hey, it's pretty good at what it's trying to be. You're just not looking for it; not used to it; expecting something else. It's supposed to be cheesy, inane, repetitive, corny, in a delicately nuanced sort of way.

Think of it as The Waitresses ("cheesy" '80s music) meet Daft Punk... :magnify: and throw a little Fergie or Spice Girls in the mix for good/bad measure.

And remember: It's never real music till it offends somebody.

Quote from wheel4hummer :You have to drive LFS alot to be able to tell if something in a specific car feels "wrong" though. It's only a game, no harm in some forum-banning.

On the contrary, I think the first impression is always more on the "huh, what the heck is wrong with this car?" side of things before you mature out of it with experience, better setups, and a driving style tailored to match the car over time.

Yeah, that is bad. I hope he didn't get banned for that post; that's absurd. I've driven cars I have never owned--that doesn't per se mean I stole them.

Well, in all seriousness, it would be nice to be able to choose from two or three different wheels styles per car. Even diameters! *gasp*

Such options are typically made available from manufacturers (all OEM parts; you just have to pick one when you order the car) so it wouldn't exactly be unrealistic or ricey. They would all need to be the same weights though... not that LFS has any unsprung weight calculated.

The lateral and longitudinal forces should be combined in a third figure. Also, gravity should be taken into account for acceleration and deceleration on any surface which isn't level. That is to say, I'd like to see the G-meter registering acceleration in some direction(s) while parked on a hill.

Why? I suppose I'd just like to know a bit more of what I would be feeling if I were in the car.

Quote from Tweaker :For the axles and arms, I'm not referring to a texture... but instead 3D shapes. Formula cars already have simple ones, why cant the road cars?

Yeah, of course. LXs have 'em too, on the front ends. But so far just wishbones. It would be cool to see mac struts & alia.

Call me crazy, but I still think no differential, drive train, suspension components, &c. would be somehow preferable to a picture of them pasted onto a mirror-smooth surface. It tells me that it's a work-in-progress; that the developers are waiting till they can do it right to do it at all. Otherwise it just looks like a shoddy finished product. I'm the type of guy who lives in an unfurnished home till he can afford exactly what he wants, as opposed to using temporary furniture. I suppose you would say I don't like substitutes.

Anyway, parts of the differential, axles and rear suspension of a lot of cars can be visible from behind (without flipping the car over) and a texture wouldn't help in this regard.

Quote from Ian.H :Unless you're driving a rig, any car I've driven also only "feels" like 2 positions, fwd and back, the H-pattern on most cars is pretty close together.

Weird. You must miss a lot of gears! Even with a modified (shortened) lever, I've never experienced any ambiguity; each gear is quite distinct. Anyway, you'd really need to have your head in the clouds to forget what gear you're in... but then I've never driven anything particularly low-reving like an american "car." Regardless, if you're listening to loud music, and your speedo/tacho are broken, the lever keeps no secrets from the hand.

Heh... -1 unless there's some 3D business done there. Not usually something you notice enough to matter. I think a texture over the flat would make it look somehow cheaper.

Quote from Woz :I would prefer an F1 car from the 60s or 70s before the safety nazi's had their way with the cars.

Well, now that you've broken the quasi-off-topic ice, anything pre-1994 for me. I just got to see a few years of F1 before it started going downhill (or downhill fast(er) if you want to debate that)...

And if any F1 car is on topic, any BMW is on topic, so I'd rather have a 2002. :goodvibes

An Australian car would be American if one didn't know any better. Holden is actually my middle name, symbolising the marriage between American and Australian cars.

...but manual in the traditional sense? through the steering column? :scared:

LFS should have an American car with its slush-box gear lever there.

Just kidding. Sorry for the visual! :vomit:

Quote from wheel4hummer :Perhaps you do not understand. We don't want the existing Raceabout to be improved. We want the 2005 raceabout, which happens to be a real car.

Gee, broseph. He didn't say existing, he said "new." And if a new RA's not an improvement, the thread shouldn't be on this forum.

Quote from dictionary.com :a person or thing that represents an advance on another in excellence or achievement: The new landlord is a great improvement over his greedy predecessor.

+1 for a (the) new, improved RA. (not that it will be intrinsically less tricky to drive)
