It was quite funny stealing stuff off Arox, but I can imagine it won't be as funny the second time.

Quote from RiseAgainstMe! :EDIT: scratch that.

found a graph. http://neurobonkers.com/wp-con ... 2010/11/uk-drug-harm1.jpg

I love how little the bar for mushrooms is. And they're the most fun you can have too.

I guess in PVP there's not much point building anything since everybody else will just smash it up anyway?

Quote from BlueFlame :He would say completely irrelevant things, Kev is the biggest druggie on here.

I haven't done anything for years tbh.

Quote from BlueFlame :BTW Moose, do you know of, or have heard of anyone credible that only takes Heroin in limited ammounts? (not counting methadone rehabilitation programm). No, didn't think so. They take as much as they can cos Heroin is basically instant addiction. Trust me, if what you were really taking was Heroin, you wouldn't be on this forum, because you'd be living on the streets.

I've done heroin a few times, never injected it but I used to chase the dragon now and then, I was always careful not to make it a regular thing though. I'm sure it is very addictive but I've never felt any compulsion to take it.

I think what makes it addictive for some people, especially those in poverty or with other problems, is that it's a very reassuring high. It takes all the glum away and leaves you cocooned and warm and cosy for a while. That could be something that you would miss if it was exactly the sort of thing you wanted.

Quote from The Moose :Scaremongering and lies helps no one. The sort of bullshit you talk about drugs is the sort of lies I was taught at school about drugs. After i had tried Cannabis and LSD and realised the stuff we were told about them was lies it actually encouraged me to try other drugs. They had lied about those two, why should I have any reason to think they weren't lying about everything they taught us about drugs?

+1.

I thought you were suggesting a thoroughly risk-averse lifestyle as some kind of ideal?

Quote from dadge :there is no such thing as safe usage when it comes to illegal drugs

Also be sure not to cross the street, and grow all of your own food, and ultra heat treat it before eating to remove any potentially fatal bacteria.

It was her pig. She ended up getting married to a tenor sax player I used to be in a band with, the pig died three years ago apparently.

Quote from DevilDare :So how did the story end? Or was that it? She didnt call the cops on you?

No she apologised and I drove her to the hospital covered in blood. Not one of the high points of my life to be honest. A month or so later I moved out (took a while because it involved transcontinental travel).

FWIW I used to live with a girl who would get drunk and violent sometimes, she had a go at me with scissors once, a ballpoint pen once, bit of a nutter. I ended up breaking her nose one night when she bit my hand and wouldn't let go.

Whereas the girl I live with now has a 'funny joke' she does in public places, where she reacts as if she thought I was going to hit her - cowering and covering her face. It's funny around people we know, but not in the supermarket...

Quote from Electrik Kar :I (think I) know what you mean. My own pet peeve is the way in which the expression 'tackling climate change' has became so ingrained in Australian media. 'Tackling' isn't even all that hyperbolic, it's just the way those two things became fused together... it's grating. I can't really put my finger on why though.

Familiarity breeds contempt?

Yeah that gets 'tackled' over here too. ****ing irritating.

I think what really ****s me off is that there are certain groups of people - people who send text messages to local radio stations and people who go on Jeremy Kyle - whose entire vocabulary is made up of these short phrases that have seeped in through the TV.

Quote from Intrepid :Point being if you eat shit your body is designed for, then of course you are at a greater risk.

We're omnivores, we're designed to eat everything.

The arguments about carbs make sense to a point, certainly refined carbs aren't great in large quantities and a lot of people make them a staple food. I'm still going to eat a sandwich if I want a sandwich though.

TBH my diet and exercise must be pretty well matched because given the amount of booze I drink I should be a massively fat bastard.

Quote from Crashgate3 :I do get really, really annoyed with - mainly adverts - on TV that depict the stupid-man-and-his-immensely-practical-wife, that may as well have her turn to the camera and shout 'HAHA MEN ARE SOOO STUPID HAHAHA'

Oh you mean adverts made by men to sell stupid shit to stupid women?

I remember the entertainingly sexist 'It's not for girls' advertising campaign for Yorkie a few years back. The best one I saw was a billboard with simply a purple background and the Yorkie font in big gold letters that said 'SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR DRIVING LESSONS'.

I was laughing for about six months.

Again I think that's tabloid language.

I think what I take offense to is not the sentiment - they're just trying to be kind to people in difficult circumstances - but the hyperbolic nature of the language they choose. Once everyone from dead soldiers to toddlers with measles are brave battling heroes there's not much room left to manoeuvre.
Battling with illnesses and being brave

No I'm not ill, nor am I brave. Two friends of mine are currently recovering from operations to remove cancers, and we got talking about how nobody simply receives cancer treatment, they are instead said to be 'battling' it. And because they are involved in this constant battle they are also said to be 'brave'.

So what happens to the ones who die? Do they die bravely? Did they die because they were weak or cowardly or simply shit at battling?

I know it's a bit petty to dig into the semantics of common parlance relating to life-threatening illnesses, but I'm sure all this came from some solitary dickhead at a red-top newspaper once, probably in the '80s, and I'm really sick of hearing these stupid phrases now.

When I lived in the USA I found your TV broadcasting to be unwatchable. Even the occasional good programme was pulled to pieces by all the advertising. Awful.

Quote from Intrepid :I'd say I veer towards the more free-market libertarian type, trying to explain that without coming across as a right-wing nut job is rather difficult.

But this right-wing Vs left-wing debate is far too simplistic.

Agreed. Just because someone doesn't identify themselves as right-wing doesn't mean they can't be an unbearable dickhead.
