Spankmeyer: You proved my point exactly... You just gave the major reason why piracy is so big these days. People being treated like criminals will start to act like criminals.

Quote from MataGyula :Yup, back to RBR Somebody pls give me an advice how to take 180° with handbrake ! PLEASE! I can manage to do a 180° correctly only 1 time out of 10 :o
replays welcome (with commentary )

Drive up to the turn, brake in the normal way... Slightly speed, and then turn in... As soon as you turn in pull the handbrake for about a second and countersteer.. Wait until you point in the direction you wanna go and floor it.

Quote from P5YcHoM4N :Not impossible as such, airships can go down at any time. Just not all in a fire ball of awesomeness.

"Oh, the humanity!"

Yes, but the danger of an airship filled with helium crashing hard and killing all aboard is about 0.1% of that of a regular airplane doing the same. Even so, there were only 2 deaths as a direct result from the fire of the Hindenburg disaster. The other deaths were due to people jumping from the great ball of fire to the ground some 100 yards lower.

Also, the reference was to looking like that picture, which is impossible since Helium is inert

Quote from P5YcHoM4N :Yeah, it could fly, but for how long? It only takes a few minutes until you end up looking like this.

No... The problem with the Hindenburg was that it was filled with Hydrogen (cheaper and easier to obtain for Germany after WW1), which is very flammable. Helium on the other hand is completely inert, and as such a repeat of that disaster is impossible.

Fair enough...

I'm starting to think your imagination is just as fertile, mate. Don't think I can give anyone a bigger compliment than that.

So what about the vinegar in '63?

Quote from spankmeyer :You sir are a twat.

EDIT: It's very much true that many people have downloaded copyrighted material, but admitting it on a public forum where you have to register and your license is tied to the account... that's just stupid.

You know what's sad? I've obtained illegal versions of many products that I bought in stores simply because the frikking copy protection would make trying to play it an adventure, or because the original CD was toasted and there are no more replacement CDs because the distributor is no longer active. Basically I don't want to be changing my configuration every time I want to play a game because the distributors can't get it through their thick heads that copy protection only annoys those that buy the game, and not those that download it.

As for downloading non-software related copyrighted material... That is legal in some countries, you know. (like mine)

Quote from spankmeyer :5 seconds of Googleing, I'm sure it can't be that difficult:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ ... 645?v=glance&n=229534

You know that's illegal in most countries? You are not allowed to sell original CDs after purchase.

Yes, and they show my problem with them... For proper heel-toe the brake pedal should be a bit higher than the throttle pedal. So for me the best solutions would either be to place the throttle a bit further back, or put padding on the brake pedal to make it stand out more.

Quote from kurent :What kind of a *beep* wheel is it that can be actually destroyed by it's own motor power? Even if the motor slams the wheel 1000+ times it should not break. That's just crappy designing. illepall

No, because basically you're expected to have your hands on the wheel... No matter how sturdy you build the wheel, something's gonna give sometime, even all carbon ones would eventually break due to strain. You ever wonder why every part in every appliance you have at home has a designated MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)? Because stuff simply breaks... You wear them more, they break sooner.

Yes, Eric rules the 3D department. I'd just like to see him a bit more active on these forums so we can actively worship him in person (and of course nag him about extra ovals, the mother, new layouts for blackwood, better textures, etc...)

Even though I have a feeling things aren't even remotely complete for any tracks we have, they are the best tracks out there for any game.

As of 2007 the Champcar World Series, the american F1-like series, will have several events abroad. One event has been confirmed so far, but other events are planned for Germany (Lausitzring?), and the Portugeze Estoril.

The one confirmed event will be held in the Netherland on September 16th at the infamous "Cathedral of MotoGP", the TT circuit in Assen.

lol... I can remember one and that's only because they still exist, and there's still a long article of mine on their info page (used to be on RSC back when they were a real website as well). Still has results from races I was in too.

Quote from Tweaker :They are the best Logitech has made to date

Yes, but if you are really honest, that's not something to be overly exited about is it? I mean... Logitech's rep regarding pedals is even worse than the West Bros rep regarding releasing sims. Looking at it I just hope I can fit a pair of replacement pads on them to make heel-toe easier.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Funnybear should really start on a book, that becomes a radioshow, that also becomes a movie that deviates from the plot line to throw in a romance between an earth girl and the President of the Universe... <.< Not that that sounds familar to any other book that could have been written, such as a book written by Douglas Adams and incorporates the number 42 through out... :hide:

Exactly what I was thinking. That last story should be expanded upon. The style is pretty much the same as DNA. The way the subject of a paragraph is slowly but surely moved to something completely and utterly off topic only to end up back on topic again is absolutely marvelous.

Quote from Stealthy04 :The only way I can see crashes in to others users causing their wheels FFB to damage its self is when they are using excessive FFB properties. I use a sensible amount of FFB, I can feel what the car is doing.. I can nearly tell wether the paint on the corners are gloss or matt (top gear quote ). But I have NEVER had my wheel 'lock' its self out over a crash.

But seriously.. if you're having to use such an amount of force feedback which could potentially damage your wheel, then it's up to you to pit, pull over to a safe place or press escape.
There will always be people having fun and crashing in to each other after a race.. its been that way ever since I have been playing LFS, and any other Sim. If the server admin on that particular server enforce a stipulation of not to crash after a race.. then do as you're told. But like I said.. anyone who wishes to use such a high amount of force feedback, then it is your responsibility to protect your OWN wheel!

I kind of disagree with you... Yes, it is up to me to pit if I don't want to be hit, but sometimes you forget. And I'm using a high FFB setting because that feels more realistic in terms of steering force needed to turn the car.

I'm not making a big deal of the crashing bit... It's just annoying to have someone actually aim for you while you're in the grass out of the way and seeing your wheel go nuts. They want to crash, fine by me.. I don't, but apparently I don't have a say in the matter. Oh well... I'm used to it by now.

Who? EVO? Now that I know she's a human of the female persuasion the chance of that is about 500% higher. I have mental issues when overtaking women, and mostly end up with metal issues from the armco shortly thereafter.

Honey... Yes, but if all goes well I can't flirt and have fun with all the LFS women, because you'll all tell on me to her.

So I forced her into the escape pod. Jettisoned it in the vaugue direction of the bounce, rotated my ident, dropped the Barge into overdrive and ran for the hills.

Why did you force her into the escape pod? You could've just jettisoned it, rotated your ident, dropped the barge into overdrive and ran for the hills while they figured out why there was an escape pod without lifesigns shot at them.

The way you write reminds me a lot of Douglas Adams, to be honest.

Quote from finlay :IT BREAKS FORCE FEEDBACK WHEELS

Apart from being highly annoying to get a kick in the chin because some dimwit decides it's ok to ram you at full speed when you're parked in the grass after the race typing a message over the top of your FFB wheel, yes it could in fact break your FFB wheel. It was not designed to get slammed side to side at lightning speed without anything stopping it but the bumpstops inside it. It should be able to hold some slamming, but wear will make it break sometime.

Yes yes, press ESC and it turns off FFB, but heat of the moment discussions sometimes cause minor amnesia. You forget (and are promptly reminded) sometimes.

EDIT:
On a side note, I think Redline Racing should change their name... Unless their webpage is actually teamredline.co.uk, in which case they should take me in as a member for causing all the confusion. There is already a (very famous) team redline (racing) in simworld whose members are some of the best simracers known to mankind.

Quote from the_angry_angel :I believe on the motorways it's usually 3 points, and an average over those. All this information is freely available on the internet, down to the actual physical security on the central "hub" buildings with the racks of servers in. Unfortunately since my Dad passed away, and I can no longer remember the URL, I'm pretty stumped It's definately on the web somewhere though.

I do remember that they have to test the system for about 18 months before it goes active and they're not allowed any false positives. If I remember correctly you also get a letter stating that if the system was in place and fully operational, that you would have been fined.

That depends on the system... We've had those bloody things here for years... They just put up a new one near my house, and I promptly received 2 fines... One on the way over at 8 o'clock, and one a couple of hours later on the way back.

I suppose that's as close as english speakers will ever get to pronouncing the 'ui' letter combination, though.

As for the IAU declaring pluto no longer a planet... Nobody in the actual astronomical world takes them seriously anymore. They spent 2 years discussing this one issue, and finally come up with a solution... Pluto and 3 more rocks will be classified as planets. 2 weeks later, they decide that pluto no longer IS a planet... Every decision they make is reversed within a month.

Quote from Xaid0n :having a nascar would drive me away from lfs, theres plenty of nascar sims around. yes there maybe only 1 oval track on lfs and i dont drive on it often as i get bored easy on that track. i think lfs should stick with motorsports like touring cars etc etc as they are more fun close racing.

-1

I think you forgot two words there...

More fun close racing for you.

Just the fact that a late model stockcar is added doesn't mean you'd have to race it, nor that you'd have to race it on an oval. Your statement that adding one would drive you away from LFS, imo, tells us more about you than LFS.

Quote from tristancliffe :How do they do wedge? To adjust diagonal corner weights (which I guess is what it is that's being adjusted), the quickest way I can think of is adjusting the local rideheight via the sprint platform. Is this how wedge works? Driving a wedge of material under the spring to lift it?

It would be appreciated if someone could tell me how wedge works, what you actually do to the car, how it effects stuff (I guess it changes lots of things on the car), when you'd use it etc.

I've seen it in various oval games (NR2003) but never understood it or researched it...

They raise or lower the rear springs by adding additional tension on the top through a very simple screw. It's like a rocky table... You make one of the shorter legs a bit longer and now it wobbles less... If they need really big adjustments they just tighten up the spring itself by putting a bumprubber in it (or taking one out). Wedge is generally used to fix under or over steering under power (when accelerating from a corner).

EDIT: After re-reading your post, basically that's what you meant... yeah, it adjusts the corner weights (crossweight, LR->RF, RR -> LF) by raising the back end on one corner. Changing the weight distribution using wedge has the advantage of affecting one direction of cornering more than the other, and since NASCAR is mostly about turning left...
