Does it boot properly with just one stick of RAM in ?

I would try switching PSU off from the wall (or pull plug out) and clear the cmos, the P5K should auto detect everything on first startup, its well worth double checking in the bios screens if you can get it that far

remove all componants from the connectors on the board except PSU and fans, it should emit some beep codes when it fails to detect VGA card and/or HDDs then continue form there.

The asus p5k has always had boot probs, do you know what bios version you are running?

Have you tried swapping the DVI lead for the VGA one going to the monitor?

Have you checked to see if you have a bios setting wrong (PCIE freq or devider, could be anything)

You are running everything at stock speeds right?

Good luck.

Welcome to the Forums Demitri

If you are hosting the server from ingame, you can always just spectate.

If you want to join another server you would probably be best to close yours first but it is possible to open another instance of LFS.

As Tomba pointed out the dedicated server is exactly that.

Quote from Krane :So Pulled the DVI cable, instantly it started.... first time I tried that..
I'm just wondering is it the PSU or is it the MB, it was refurbished... I'd put the blame on it, but it could be the PSU too. Which it could be?

It may well be neither

I would look at first changing your monitor cable, just out of interest do you have a DVI to VGA converter plug in the back of the video card?
is you monitor one with native DVI or is it VGA?

The radeon cards normally swap outputs on restart if no device is detected, have you tried plugging the monitor cable in the other port?

good luck.

Hi Jack (excuse the pun)

I beleive its just a case of going to your CRT manufactures website and downloading the monitor.inf file (then installing it). this will tell your system exactly what it can and cannot support, if the refresh rate is supported by the monitor & GFX card and in the drivers, then it should be available in LFS, you can also switch on Vsync if you get funny tears/ half screen flickers.

Good luck

Thats indeed a very safe place to keep it :P Ill stick to the old cookie jar for the time being

What I was trying to point out in the post above is that extra money and LFS development are in no way related.

you can donate as much as you like and overpay for a licence if you wish, that won't make Scawen, Eric & Vic work any faster, will it?

Its intresting reading about all those games, the only thing I dissagree with is the whole "speed up development or people will move on" thing.
The problem with that is there is no other game like LFS, there are thousands of MMO games, but not so many driving games that have a sim feel as good as LFS does, many who play LFS refuse to pay monthly for something like Iracing, and dont have the patence to mess around with all the mods like Rfactor, what else is there for them to move onto?

They (the Devs) develop LFS to their own timescale, it has always been like that, with people finding LFS everyday the userbase has grown huge, maybe thats why demands for them to hurry have increased.

I believe many infrequent or non forum posters, are happy to just be patient and wait, maybe as many as come here and post how LFS will die if they don't get x amount of new content.

Quote from broken :Does nobody here remember that you have web password as you have a game one? He might really have forgotten his web password, which is even worse than forgetting the game one. With the game password you can unlock S2 in LFS, but without the web password you can not login in any site (like lfsforum, lfsworld, lfs.net and any other that I haven't mentioned/don't know about).

If this is the case then its easy to go to the automated password retreival page here and get it sorted

do you have anything else using the internet whilst you run LFS?
maybe try shutting down all other processes, still same?

does the laptop have the option to connect a dedicated wireless antenna?

you could try moving the laptop 90 degrees to possible make the arial work better, worth a try.
(I have read somewhere about disabling QOS in internet options, but I know little about it, or if it even helps, so Ill leave that for others to comment on)

buy a long patch cable?

good luck.

Do you have a patch cable you can try between PC and router, to rule out the wireless part? assuming that router supports that.

If you go to a resturant and have a nice meal, do you say to the owners/cheffs thanks Ill pay you when I have some money?

If you like LFS save the money to buy a licence to use it.

cracked software and unlockers will mess up your PC good, install dataloggers and trojans and are doing SW developers out of alot of money.

Don't steal.

Quote from lalathegreat :you know the saddest thing about this whole thing is. as soon as the the new patch with the physics comes out, almost all of you will forget it was over a year late with nothing in between but changes like

Reduced minimum speed in SHIFT+U mode to 0.1 m/s

I fail to see whats sad about that?

Quote from hda :demo racers haven't got the right to complain

that dosn't make your statement correct tho does it?

In 10 years LFS will be older more mature and some of you kids will have grown up a bit, well heres hoping!

With BT as well as all other UK ISP's providing ADSL through BT's equipment, and unless you phone BT and specifically ask them to take you off the "auto-test" list, your ADSL will be interupted on avarage once a day (this is automated by a computer and tests all UK landlines) normally it will be when you are asleep, but you never know.

Also have you checked your cables and possibly your router/modem may be overheating?
Sometimes a new filter(Z-blocker) can fix this type of problem, also if you can disconnect all your phone equipment and just plug the router/modem into the "test socket" at your master, if this cures your prob, then internal interference might be your prob.

Just some things to try.

Good luck

Quote from hariel-HUN- :In 2009 I paid quite a lot of money for simulation games, because I am finished waiting S3.

First of all I bought netKar (for 20 EUR ~ $29), which could be great, but the max number of people playing online is 1 (me).

Than, I decided to subscribe iRacing. I used a $5 promo code, with which I entered the system for a month. I drove quite well, to not to stop my progress I bought 2 tracks ($15 each) and a car ($12) when my 1 month subscription expired. I decided to not to renew it, because that game is rubbish. I can tell you it was a complete waste of time and money. I don't want to get on with it here, just believe me, it is.

Than, I saw a simraceway.com advert, where they said if you subscribe for their service you will get a free copy of GTR2. (spent $10 again) According to their site, it "enables you to race, 24/7 for free or cash prizes against hundreds of thousands of other racers". Just no. Only 2-3 people is driving GTR2 at a time. Plus, After 50-60 laps, I had enough of the unbelievably bad physics engine GTR2 have. My subscription is still lives until 12th of January, but I cannot even think of that game, because that makes me angry.

So all in all, in the last 3-4 months I spent: $29 + $47 +$10 = $86, just because I'm tired of waiting for anything new. All of this money could have been gone to LFS, if it would be a proper company, and they wouldn't only have 1+2 developers.

In RL, I'm a business consultant, people give me money to tell them, how to run their business. I'm sorry Scawen, but your management system is in deep alpha state.

A real good read especially like the fact that you like LFS better than GTR2 and Iracing, I thought about Iracing but refuse to pay2play after driving LFS I find myself struggling to find any sim/game that is anywhere near as good IMO.
Zeug is right its your fault for being impatient and spending your "LFS money" elsewhere, and the business you speak of, would be damaged by releasing anything before its ready, you must realise that?

I wonder how many peop[le who bought Rfactor & a logitech FF wheel and no other driving games? I bet they think that forces IRL work the way they do "out of the box" in rfactor? most experianced simmers know that the FF is reversed and must be changed, but beginners don't, my point is that a tiny bug, indeed many are left in more expensive games like the ones you speak of and the product is shipped money made and development finishes, not so with LFS it may take a while but it should be proper good when its done

Whenever I feel I need the next gear

sometimes an early shift will really help with traction, sometimes its better to hold in lower gear to the redline/limiter before a brake point.

every gear is adjustable in the garage

I agree with Torben, when it comes to development times, some of us have been around alot longer than others and have seen it all before, LFS has never had any deadlines, infact the whole project was probably born because 3 talented individuals wanted to get away from the deadline/crunchtime way of working, that often results in large SW companys releasing buggy games.
Sure LFS has a few longstanding bugs, thats why the devs have kept it alpha, but as it is its one of the best, most playable sim/games in the market.
Its cheaper and better than many so called "sims" supports more translations (a good thing for future sales) has plenty of content to keep me happy until the next stage of development.

in 10 years I hope it will still be in development, and we will have acess to whatever version of S2 or S3 that Scawen & co decide is good enough to release, its thier game and I think they are most qualified to decide when and what to release to us.

Edit: BTW people complaining about "steering colums" and "forum posts" in that picture site someone linked to, are just childish IMO
