how about we offer our help and our abilities to help the developers?

I think the Devs can also see this

Quote from kristis917 :Did the devs accept their help?

Just look at the LFS credits, The devs have, and probably will again ask people for input from time to time via public beta patch testing or in PMs etc

I imagine like the private beta testers a NDA would prevent many from ever knowing

System restore may be a bit tricky considering i have a new CPU and Motherboard, unless that doesn't matter.

If you have changed major hardware (mobo) it really requires a reinstallation of your OS, although windows looks like its running fine it usually has just "made do" with the drivers installed before your mobo change, and installed new ones for things it recognised as different.

does your LFS offline work ok?

Quote from Loz16 :Bumping a little bit...

It seems my PC despised LFS for some reason. I did a re-install yesterday, but the Crash on the server list still occurs.

I changed my Motherboard and CPU in my PC recently too.

I can't actually get the car on track online due to this problem.

Did you reinstall again after you changed the mobo and cpu?

You still using that same gfx card yes?

Quote from Loz16 :
The problem was with AVG. I just un-installed it and the server list loads properly now.

I'm unsure as to why there was a problem/conflict though.

[EDIT] It turn's out that un-installing AVG gave a fluke result. It's now flat out refusing to load the server page, it just freezes the PC when i click the server list button.

Have you checked windows firewall is allowing lfs to access the internet?
have you replaced AVG with another AV program? some have "live scan" apps that constantly check for threats you might need to allow lfs in those too.

Does your single player game work ok, with you +10 or +20 AI cars on track?

You might be able to system restore to the point where you loaded AVG this should allow you to install some other AV more sucessfully.

Good luck

I only ask you to try blocking messages because it says "playerX has left the pits" in the chat (I mean't to say turn off system messages (Shift + -)) just as somthing else you can try.

What version of LFS are you running?

Have you added ay texture files or copied any files from an older LFS version?

do you get this problem on all tracks and all servers? are some worse than others?

Quote from CSU1 :...I thought AGP cards won't fit and I need PCI Express?

You are correct, with the pic you posted an AGP card WILL NOT work with your mobo.

I don't know why people are still talking about them

Defo a PCI EX slot even says so right next to it

I still think you need to post a photo of your actual mobo so we can see the slots, if shaun is correct, and it sounds like he is, then you will need a PCIExpress gfx card, but all the links have been to AGP versions?

here is a similar card to the ones linked to but in PCIE

Quote from george_tsiros :try using lower resolution skins

Have you tried that ^^ ?

have you tried blocking messages?

Do you get this with the plain LFS version 0.5Z ? or have you got "extras" installed like high res packs etc??

Need to adjust the "wheel turn compensation" setting, its the slider under the rotation in the controls/axis/ff screens, I dont remember if 0 or 1 but you will soon see.

Also check "analog steer smooth" in options misc
Good luck.

Quote from Toddshooter :What you need to do is pop on our vent channel one night and we/ Boogle can walk you through setting it up. He is very good at it:-) I haven't talked to him yet but I'm sure he will do it no problem. If you have someone to talk you through it it only takes a few minutes.

If you want our vent info Sparky just let me know and I'll PM you.

Thank you Todd, I apreciate the offer, I might take you up on that, at some time as I really do want to keep trying to make this game feel playable, and not just keep giving up on it.

Quote from BlueFlame :The mod feels very nice and the sounds are very good indeed.

Please be more specific! what mod are you talking about ?

Niels one? or the Enduracers? or somthing completely different?

-------------------------------------------

I have yet to find a mod that works properly, although I have managed to get the historyx mod installed and now it starts with the oldie pictures etc.

I am still having problems though graphics look very cartoony and "low res" looking skins, I am using a KB that has not got the number pad so cannot adjust any realfeel settings, so it still feels bad and looks wrong.

Its such a difference from LFS that works in high res almost off the bat, seems to me like with Rfactor+mod you need to know how to adjust every little detail in config files etc, I don't have the time for all this, I just want to race somthing at least partially realistic

Too much effort and expendature for me with little return as yet, still very dissapointed.

Even if you're both on the first floor, you'll be drilling into the recess between the floor joists and the ground floor ceiling. This means you'll be able to get the cable into one hole just fine, but have no way of making sure it comes out of the other one

There are special tools and ways of "fishing" to do exactly this but its not always an easy job.

One of the best tools for the job is a wire coathanger provided the holes are close enough and in the same void between joists, you need a special sixth sense sometimes to visualise where the exit hole is

Be very carefull drilling holes in the floor, there are wires and pipes under there.

Make sure you video it when you drill into a waterpipe, then upload to youtube so we can all have a chuckle

Good luck

It sounds like your "modem" could possibly be starting to fail...

Also possible that the phone socket you plug the modem into has some loose wire or wiring problem, In the UK we have a "master socket" (the 1st phone point from the suppliers wire) it has a test socket behind a front cover, connecting to this should give a clean connection without secondary phone points connected, do you have a similar setup in Norway? is the modem plugged into the 1st phone socket in your house?

If you go to page 192.168.0.1 or whatever can you acess connection statistics? or noise ratio?

It could be a problem at your local exchange, or an ISP related problem also

Good luck

Hi N Murray

If you have a large monitor and/or want to play LFS with good framerates (60+) with all the settings that make LFS look best, you would be better getting a high range GFX card (ATI 4870 for example) I prefere the image quality of ATI cards over Nvidia, but thats just me.

As for the OS LFS runs just fine on XP, Vista and W7 so that part of your question is down to what you are most comfortably using

Good luck

All this ranting about the lack of sequential shifter.... can't you just set it up to use 3rd and 4th for shifting sequential cars? I take it the shifter will center itself I dont see the big deal.

I would like to see a "cheapish" replacement gear/cogs set to enable diy upgrade of the G25 to quality helical gears, would be a very popular 3rd party product IMO.

as for extra buttons I could do with a couple more on the G25 so for me appart from the lower db output thats the only big plus for the G27.

I would expect the 25 to be priced around 20-30 percent cheaper than the 27 by christmas.

Logitech may be a "small" company but they have a huge globally recognised brand.

If you have been inside the case cleaning dust off take a quick digital pic and post it here so we can see the slots on the mobo just to double confirm everything will fit ok

personally I would buy only the gfx card and either another 512 DDR2 ram (the same as the one you have, or do you have 2 sticks installed?) or 2 new larger sticks of ddr2, and see how it runs with your current CPU before getting another.

Good luck

You can buy extra long cat6e patch cables, just run them under the edge of the carpet and under the doors, if you have hard flooring you could also clip (neatly) or run mini trunking on or above the skirting board.

However for the sake of 1 x 6mm hole through the wall that can be covered with a RJ45 outlet box and if then removed at a later date if required, the hole is very easily filled with polyfiller.

Whilst wireless can in some situations work very well, it also has its downsides interference can be a big problem and its not as secure as wired, and for serious gaming I would always go for a solid 10/100/1000 wired network.

Of course wired or wireless if your ISP sucks you might have gaming problems anyway!
so, get a job save up and subscribe yourself to a gaming focused ISP with fat pipes save some more and buy a gaming PC then save for your own place/car not nesseceraly in that order

OK fistr dont buy a PCI Express gfx card, it wont fit

your board is this one http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ ... view.aspx?id=en-us0000191

it has AGP 8X gfx card slot, its not a great mobo but with a half decent gfx card and maybe upgrade to a pentium should play LFS fine.

What resolution is your monitors native resolution?

Be very carefull overclocking as the temp info is not always correct, and be very carefull overclocking it can kill PCs faster than you think

make sure you download all the latest drivers from the page linked above you might improve performance, maybe not

good luck.

Ill try to post some more thoughts another day, its getting late

Quote from danthebangerboy :You can also look back using the R key, although you need to be in cockpit mode to do it.

You can also use R in wheels mode too, however it will only work in road cars, not in "race" cars because of the HANS devices used in such cars.

A few patches ago the ability to press both left and right look buttons together would enable you to "look back" a feature I was personally very sad to see removed as it had been in LFS since the early days, and for G25 owners with only 2 buttons on the wheel means you have to take a hand off the wheel to do this.

I would reccomend joining a few servers and just spectating for a bit, some aeiro enabled servers have rules that pop up as soon as you join, and you have to click "I agree" or "OK" well worth a read, but still spectate a few laps or races before just joining, some of these servers will require you to drive specific cars to start your points earning career.

Be it drift, cruise or race server you will soon find a few favorite servers that you can just join using the join specific server multiplayer option (this remembers the last server you joined) S2 servers will almost always be better places to race/drift/cruise than demo ones but unfortunatly at this time there is no way to filter them inside LFS.

Good luck.

The motherboard you have linked to is actually a socket AM2, this means you cannot have a celeron D you will find only AMD CPUs will fit, you probably have a semperon (the budget chip) but any AM2 socket Athlon, Athlon64 or athlon X2 will fit in there.
Nearly 4GHz is very fast and might be fine to play LFS so just upgrade GFX first
The mobo also comes with one PCI Express 16X slot this will allow you to fit almost any modern GFX card that is listed at PCIExpress, personally I would go for an ATI 47XX or 48XX based card.

Good luck.
