Quote from sijia10358 : I recently formatted the OS. After installing LFS it lags a lot!

Hi Sijia

This might sound silly but did you remember to install all the drivers after you reinstalled the OS? not just the video and sound card drivers but also all the motherboard chipset drivers?

good luck

Hi RubinI

How does your cable modem connect to your PC?
is it USB, Ethenet (RJ45) or wireless?

If the answer to the avove Q is not wireless, could you open task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) click the processes tab and take a ss of the list, post it here, so we can get an idea of whats going on.

good luck

I run 3 OS on my gaming PC
W7 64 (7100 eva)
XP 64
and XP home.

I get the same peformance in LFS in all 3

I have never used that silly logitech profiller

Nairn do you think there maybe remnants of the profiller software that need manual removal?
I would suggest a registry search for logitech, but it would not help if you have other logi devices.

Also the shift+F9-F12 switch between popular fullscreen resolutions.

set up in options / screen.

I think LFS has some of the best sim graphics "out of the box" so to speak, and when racing you don't need to see every fleck and speck on the track or tiny detail of the dashboard.
The only reason I would consider installing any non standard textures would be for movie making.
Nathan has brought up a good point about HW specs, when reading about FPS probs in the tech support section many users neglect to mention they installed a load of mods into the game, and then wonder why they get FPS or other issues.

Also as this thread shows, it can get very confusing with the amount of texmods available, just looking at the 7 links posted above, while they all look great, I can't help thinking people will try to install everything, and end up with a mix match of stuff that is just slowing down both loading time, and fps.

If you like to watch replays a lot or are into movie making thats totally fine, LFSNoob and others here can give great info on whats best ITO, however if you like LFS for the great online racing and maybe don't know the limitations of your HW then the "vanilla" LFS is way better than most sims and more importantly plays best as it is.

Do you mean LFS version X10 ?
Is you wired network connecting to the internet through a router with a built in firewall?
Anyone on your network using P2P programs?

This is probably ISP related, but repeat your ping test with a server at a greater distance than 50 miles.
restart your router / PC etc and repeat

Also have you made a rule in your firewall to allow LFS ports open TCP and UDP?

Good luck.

To the OP
RouteKaster if you buy an S2 licence, you can join the awsome LR Server1 where I have seen some great large grid races in the XFG & XRG with good/fair admins and plenty of mature minded drivers.
You might only want to concentrate on BL1 for now but, the many of the other tracks available to S2 players are sutable for fun road car races and some are in many ways better to race on than BL1.

You sound like a fair minded racer, the kind you expect to find at any good S2 server

You also make a good point for reintroducing the demo=no filter (although I don't think we will ever see it again)

Good racing

Scripting as in macro clutch/gears is still alive and well, its easy enough to spot too, watching flatshifting in the xfg for example, with macroclutchers you can see the revs drop differently from A/C users.
I see it as a cheat, but it seems from what has been said about it before, most don't.

LFS has always had its share of players that will always cheat to get ahead, I'm sure we all know who most of them are by now.

There will always be people who will be able to drive better or faster than you, be it down to ability, skill or exploit it will always be

The OP could try the shift+F9 -F12 keys an easy way to change resolution on the fly.

I suspect totally black screen is either a graphics card driver/direct X problem (like the dell drivers one) it would be nice to know if any of the suggestions here have worked for him.

Just out of interest what track car combo are we talking about? and what sort of lap times was this player setting?

I have see people using the button clutch or "macro clutch" exploit to achieve a few tenths faster than what is possible with auto clutch but its not really what I would call noticable.

Quote from Crady :Well for me the windows size and position aren´t saved too.

Win7 64 bit, Nvidia 9600GT (latest driver), desktop at 1920x1080.

Every time I close LFS in windowed mode - not matter if I choose the Exit button or just use the X and no matter which window size or position I manually choosed - LFS starts with a quite small window positioned top left.

I had the same issue, but only once, that was straight after installation of Z20 (Z18-Z20 IIRC) then after going to fullscreen then back to windowed and resizing, LFS remembers the size no probs

Win7,ATI,1920X1200

Quote from DaveJ :Say you're on a straight, tight up against the grass on your left, and heading towards what will eventually be the natural turn in point for the next right-hander. A car slightly ahead and in the middle of the road moves across to take the same line, but because you're slightly faster, by the time it gets there, its rear will clip your front; are you expected to back off, or should he leave room on the outside?
In an ideal world, both. its always better to leave room and find a better position next turn/lap but some people don't look and expect you to lift

Another one: If you're side-by-side with someone whose on your left through the BL chicane, heading to the last of the 3 apexes, where is the edge of the track?! i.e. does he only need to leave your left wheels within/on(?) the green curb part, or are you entitled to have your right wheels within/on(?) it too?
Difficult one as alot of people cut this apex and leave the track completely even when not side by side but again he should leave you enough room so you can have all wheels on the track & kerb in order for him to leave enough room he must sacrifice some exit speed.

In summary, if at all possible, try never to place your car on a piece of track that is occupied by another car and always be aware of where cars in your vacinity are or are going to be.
There is a very fine line between defending and blocking, and some people fail to realise that if a car gets along side (inside) you before normal turn in point, you should consider that a made pass and either try for the crossover apex retake or try to repass next turn/lap.
real racing is zero contact racing, it takes 2 to tango etc etc

Quote from TurboLFS :Is it possible that a friend unlocks the content by loggin in with my account informations ?

thank you...

No this is not possible. its also against term 3.4 of the end-user agreement you agreed to when purchasing the license.

The best thing you can do is go to the IT room and find someone with admin acess to the uni's network and get them to unblock the 2 ports required, or give them a copy of the demo you might find they love it

More information would be nice

things like;
What OS you are using?
What version of LFS? standard or test patch?
What, if anything have you changed in your HW or SW? maybe new GFX card? or driver?
Have you run (start/run) "dxdiag"? and does it pass all the tests?
Are other games or programs giving similar errors?

The more info you can give the faster it should be for someone here to rule out what it is not, and maybe get to what it could be or even what it is, that is causing your problem.

Good luck.

Classic demo server behaviour if you ask me seems a good advertisment for buying S2 and racing with the adults

Also a good argument for adding a filter to allow S1 or S2 users to see only the "better" servers

Check to see if your LFS folder is set as read only. Right click on the LFS folder, go to Properties and look to see what the "Read Only" check box says. If it's either got a tick or a square in it change that to empty.

Reboot your Router, reboot your PC.

Check your cables are not kinked or in bad condition.

try at different times of the day.

Sounds like an ISP issue.

Server's pings in the list of servers are ok, as before.

What do you consider OK? 20ms/ 200ms?

How are you connecting to the internet? wired or wireless? through a router? or just a modem?

Any other users on your network? secure or open network?

Do you use P2P software for downloading on your or any other PC in your house?

Have you closed all unwanted programs running in the background before you start LFS?

is your PC downloading updates or performing a virus scan?

What OS are you using?

Do you have the latest drivers for all your hardware?

Don't send cash!

Go to the PO and use your cash to purchase a money order made out in GBPounds for the amount £24.00

You will be charged a small amount to do this + the exchange rate at the time.

When you have the GBP money order in your hand pop it into an envelope along with a peice of paper (or card) with the other details required (as per lfs.net)

Wait time will depend on postal method (air/sea) and can vary from a number of days to a few weeks.

Good luck.

Quote from LiveForBoobs :I experience the same thing as the OP. Whenever i get a bit of dirt in the tyres just before the last turn, i know the next lap is ruined (1st split more than 29.95), because i will have to turn much slower than normal as not to slide off the track.

But do you also get dirty tyres from just driving on the rumble strips and not in the dirt/grass like the op?

I have to say I have never had any dirt come onto the tyres (F9 display) without actually driving through some, of course if I load up the right tyre enough as Glenn says above I can cut a little grass with the left tyre knowing its not going to pick up much because its close to or fully off the ground, but with turn entrances like BL1 last turn you are loading the outside right tyres and thats where the dirt is so of course it will pick up more/faster.

Do you chaps that get dirt from the track/rumble strips have the latest standard version 0.5Z installed or have you upgraded from a previous version?
Have you got any additional 3rd party track textures installed?
I am thinking if its just blackwood could it be a mixup with an upgraded version of LFS, because as we all know BL1 track surface has changed position since it had the track update.

like i said to keep the dev's workload to a minimum, we should have a limit and it should be something like 1 name-change per account, or something like that

To keep the devs workload to a minimum, we should leave it as it is now with no name change, people have to learn to read things before they just sign up to anything, with silly usernames they don't intend to keep?

just my opinion
