I don't want to run home pc all the time.

Guess it comes to us having to continue renting a rackservice server just to use airio. Because then we get benefits of full airio, plus all FM servers on same airio.

We will however trim from 3 lfs servers to 2, to offset the cost.

So we can:
1.) Host full airio on other server and connect to lfs hosted server. That means more costs for hosting.
2.) Run free airio and lose some functionality

Is there a way to make existing Airio free version a full version thats on lfs.net hosting? Presuming you have a license key for full version.

So after doing some racing with old GP car (massive fun car to drive) I've got a bugging feeling that something was off.

I cant say what, just a feeling that tyres didnt really connect to the road as I would expect them to, especially as the pressure they were. That high tyre on that kind of pressure, you'd expect it to sag a bit on bottom and move around a bit on corners, but it didnt.

I had 100 kpa front tyres.

Maybe im just talking bullshit, but its whats on my mind.

A batshit crazy early 2000s style V10 with 20k redline for FO8, with no traction control but improved underbody downforce to aid driving in dirty air.

Quote from Eclipsed :You should really check leagues section - there are plenty of events that do not feature just xrg/xfg,so you cannot complain about variability of cars available for racing in events. However occasionally you can complain about lack of space on grid,as sometimes event servers are full.

Regarding getting bored of same combos - there are different people with different tastes. Some want to race on 5-lap race with one car and they scream for a change, some like to extend their experience with the same car and goes for better and better laptime on same combo. And some have the ability to find new things out of LFS - for example the open configs, new Westhill and concrete objects updates provided the community with quite unlimited possibilities trackwise, user created cars now will multiply those options. And yet there will be people who will complain about lack of [insert your reason here]...

only that there are few problems with races you, me or anyone else organizes and that you can see in leagues section.

They are at a given time and date. You cant just hop into LFS when it suits you and have a fun race, you need to organize your day around LFS, so you can race.

And if you race for fun, with no experience, chances are you will be left for dust, or not even able to qualify.

What LFS needs is pickup racing with track rotations, something like AA is doing, but with single car class on track and like 10 minute races at max. Then anyone who hops online could have fun. But to make it happen you need racers...alot of them. Once LFS picks up enough interest to attract 2000 racers every day for more than 30 minutes, then the ball will start rolling and it will start to grow again.

At the moment, all you can do is exactly what you, mrc, b2r, at, tam, fm, ndr and the rest are doing - organize one race per day at the time slot where you can guarantee atleast 15 cars on grid and try to have some fun. And nothing wrong with that...we're just doing the best we can with what we got.

Quote from VladM :i'm sorry, but i've been playing lfs for more than 15 years on and off, you get tired and bored. even though i've had s3 for some years now, i still only play on blackwood, because there just arent enough servers or events to race on more combos than xrg/xfg on all tracks. the difference is when i get on assetto i can just choose some random combo and go race with random people, here if i wanna just drive and race when i feel like it, i have to either play demo combos, or wait for some weekly event to race with people im most likely not going to be competitive against.

thank you for basically confirming the point i made in my second post a few lines under the first one that you quoted.

Lack of content isnt problem, lack of racers is.

Quote from k_badam :Hate this argument, you only have to drive a certain car or track for a certain amount of time before getting bored of it, you don't have to exhaust every track of car combo to get bored. On iRacing there are cars and tracks I go back to more often than others, but the vast amount of content available there stops me from getting bored as bored as I do with LFS

I don't even think LFS really lacks content, yes it would be nice to have more stuff but we are okay with what we have at the moment, but I really dislike this argument saying you have to race every combo. My half drunk brain atm can't think of a decent enough explanation for why I think that though Big grin

But its a really good argument when someone says "we need more stuff cause I'm bored with existing".

Brutal reality is, some people (most people) will get bored whatever you do, only if you feed them new content every week, maybe then they will be ok. Its not a personal dig at anyone, its just a human trait. I've got a friend who cant play one game more than 2 days, everything gets boring really fast to him, while on other side i could drive same combo every day and it'll be ok, as long as there is content within content to work with.

Content within content - racing other cars, developing setup, chasing time, perfecting racing line, making race setup.

Its that content within content where LFS excells for me, and why i think people ask for more basic content (track, cars). If you get a superb race, you could drive uf1..it will still be fun and not boring. And that's why iRacing is less boring. More racing.

Its because you are young and need everytime something new or flashy to entertain you Big grin

Even if they put out 20 quality mods and 10 new quality tracks, after 2 years people will complain it is not enough.

Have you really raced every combo lfs has to offer?

Quote from Scawen :It's all the existing LFS physics and features, but with editors.

Also some basic EV support and centrifugal clutch for karts.

Hotlaps have been preserved. This is not an aerodynamic physics overhaul.

Not being aero overhaul, but can you add a wing to mod car? Is there a property of lift and drag for the wing you make? Can you add a diffuser to modded car?

Or are mods for now limited only to cars without aero?

Quote from Scawen :No, it's just one or the other. I have not tried to support EVs with gears either. I have to set limits to try and finish this and get it out there. I do want to add regenerative braking during the public test stage though.

What ev will you base it on? I drove kona, i3, model 3 performance and leaf...they all work a bit differently

Quote from michal 1279 :yes

Are we talking only arb and brake balance or clean slate and we can do what we want?

Can we make car have active aero?

Can a modded car utilize ground effect aero?

Does underbody aero get affected to same level as wing aero when following other car?

Quote from k_badam :How are we any further away Uhmm

"further away than i thought".

read young padawan, read Tongue

And i thought we are closer as i was under impression graphics and physics are being worked on fully in last year or so, but this update shows that is not the case.

Quote from michal 1279 :FragMasters apparently do.

To be fair its only me talking, we still didnt do any internal talk about it.

I need few days to wrap my head around the fact that we are not nearer, but further away from any meaningfull update to the racing side of the game than i thought.

Quote from chucknorris :Our insim needs local server access for various function, not to mention our ability to manage it. Those changes are really a slap in the face of all those who kept this dead horse alive for the last 10+ years.

If old version works... just stay on current one..

I see no reason why team like Fragmaster should ever think of a switch to new version.

No changes to FOX, no changes to GTI cars, no changes tracks or the way cars drive. Only change i see that will be seen in Fragmaster servers operation is more expensive hosting.

Will we be able to run old version of LFS on old servers still?

Will the new modded cars still latch onto edge of kerbs at rockingham and ruin any meaningfull racing?

Quote from Scawen :It's the usual thing. If we don't talk, it's "where are the devs" and "why have they abandoned us". If we do talk and excitedly announce things that we are working 12 hours a day on, then don't quite make a point where we had said "we hope to be able to say something on day X" then we get told off again by some people. There isn't really a way around that! Looking

But the really great thing is that most of the community members totally understand what we are talking about, and I am very happy to hear the nearly all positive comments since my last post. I'm working super hard on average 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, for quite a few months to get this current project ready for a public test patch. It's pretty tiring but think it'll be worth it. Smile

Considering that the current version is already quite great, I have no doubt the updated one will be even better.
