That was the most horrible impact I ever saw in racing. I just can't believe he is not seriously injured.
At the same time it's a shame that Lewis' first win came under such circumstances, from the crash onwards I couldn't enjoy the race.
But hats off to Lewis, he is unstoppable. Yesterday I asked the question here who of the two McLaren drivers would be the first to make a mistake. Turns out we only had to wait until the first corner and it wasn't the rookie who made it. IMO LH is doing everything to indicate he will be the best driver of all time, who would have expected that just one year after Schumacher leaves?
PS: WTF was the pit exit light red when Massa and Fisi came out and WTF aren't races red flagged when there are crashes like this?
1) In patch X the step size for changing the live fuel settings has changed from 5% to 1%. This step is too small for making fast adjustments while driving, which is obviously what the live srttings are there for. I thought I could fix this by using scripts that press left/right five times in a row but have just realized that this causes other problems as 5% is too large a step for brake balance for instance. I think the fuel setting should be changed back to what it was or be made customizable.
2) Another thing that has changed in patch X is that you need to press ctrl+shift to see what your current best lap time is. I would like to have this on my wheel but /ctrl shift is not a valid command.
3) A command for setting system global keypresses would be nice for activating external apps like Teamspeak or Ventrillo.
Fantastic performances once again by Senna and Prost, err sorry, I mean Hamilton and Alonso. I love the way they are pushing each other to the limit, leaving Ferrari in the dust while doing so.
I have no doubt that they will be allowed to both go for the win tomorrow so it will be very interesting. Who will be the first to make a major mistake while under pressure from his teammate?
To me it looks like Intel are really aiming to crush AMD into bankruptcy. They're not even letting AMD play the "our chips may be worse but at least they're cheaper" role that they had before they gained the technical upper hand over the crappy P4.
Thanks Devs for the patch. I think this last series of test patches was the first time you brought incompatible changes to a test patch so we had a unique situation of a split online community. Personally I thought this approach was great for us racers as it gave us some really nice surprises instead of the usual smaller test patch changes. I hope it went well from your point of view too so that we can expect similar surprises in future test patches.
Keep up the great work and don't let yourselves get irritated by fools who start threads about slow progress at a time when test patches are coming out almost daily of all times! :twirl:
worldwide co2 emission per year:
vegetation, animals, microbes(rotting): 440 Gt (gigatons)
oceans (plankton): 330 Gt
humans: 24.4 Gt
So are all the guys that say that human created CO2 is insignificant right? Of course not. The emission numbers are totally irrelevant without any information about how much of the emitted CO2 is reabsorbed by nature. If for instance plants are absorbing 440 + 330 Gt of CO2 per year then all of the 24.4 Gt that humans create are contibuting to an increase of CO2 levels. And that's what we're interested in, CO2 levels in the atmosphere, not just emission, simple as that.
This was actually the first question that was adressed in the guide I linked to earlier. But I guess people rather watch half-assed TV "infotainment" programs than doing some reading.
Yeah, because I always make up my opinions about science by listening to politicians. You know, like in the nineties where they convinced me that closing down nuclear power plants is great for our einviroment. Oh wait, they didn't, I already knew they were full of sh*t back then.
The points Shotglass is making are exactly the same ones I always make on this subject.
I don't have much to add that hasn't been said already (this isn't the first global warming thread) but I'd like to point out this guide at NewScientist that I think does a very good job of explaining where many of the global warming myths came from.
He does seem to be talking out of his ass most of the time but I agree with his general statement. Whatever your personal opinion about global warming may be, without public support there will be no motor racing. So F1 needs to make sure it regains an image of being a hi tech innovator that uses modern technology. With the engines they use now this just isn't the case. Adding some of the things Mosley is planning could change this.
Image is everything. If everything were about facts how come cars are being portrayed all the time as the cause of global warming when in fact coal power plants create far, far more co2?
One thing to add is that this is exactly the same as shifting when more power is available in the next gear. Then you don't even need to differentiate between power at the engine and power at the wheels as power doesn't get scaled by gears.
I'll put it this way. The only reason I keep any other sims than LFS installed on my PC is because LFS lacks real tracks. It's also one of the big reasons that real racing drivers tend to be pulled more towards rCraptor rather than LFS.
We all disconnected and reconnected at once, I got the queue counting down, then "OK not recieved", then host not found. Now it's not on the server list.
The main moment when preload makes a difference is the moment you lift off the brakes while going into a corner. This is when the transition from coast to power begins i.e. the torque at the rear wheels is very low. With zero preload you will experience oversteer at this point.
What I've found is that basically all FOX setups use a brake balance setting that is much further forward than a Formula Renault would use in real life. So my theory is that what you typically do in the FOX is use the front brake bias together with trail braking and lots of coast lock to induce understeer at corner entry to keep the rear end in check.
If you add some preload (100 - 200 Nm) you can take the brake balance back (from 67 % to 63 % in my case), lower the coast locking (30%) and still have a well balanced car at corner entry. In fact I find that with theese adjustments driving the FOX feels a lot more natural and realistic than before and quite a few other LFS relism problems were fixed at the same time:
-trail braking now works as intended, helping to turn in, not induce understeer
-it is no longer possible to catch a spinning car by stomping the brakes
-using ultra quick downshifts no longer improve braking distance
-front tyres don't pop as often in long races due to overloading under braking
So in summary I think that previously the brake balance was being (mis)used to cure turn in oversteer and this can now be done using preload.
I haven't seen anyone else adopt these kind of changes though so I wonder what other people think. I for one like the feeling much more but I didn't get any faster.
Do you know this for a fact? I know it was the case when they only had rpm but with throttle, brake and G-Forces I'm quite sure they are using more direct data now. Getting throttle position from seem unlikely to me.
