Nice little detail with the decals. You can earn some of them in battle and then use them for free. And national flag decals are free and you can scale and rotate them very freely. Plus you get to place the decals wherever you want on the tanks. Some people obviously have made their tanks look like christmas trees but I don't really mind. It just makes it easier for others to spot their tanks because bright red and yellow camo is not best forest camo.

Played my first simulation battle. Not sure if want. The battles seem to be a lot more long range which means you want high pen and high rof gun. Realistic battles seem like decent fun although there aren't that many maps. I have tried to get into few arcade battles but I always seem to get maps that don't have spots for tanks. Don't really care about the flying. Planes are a bit meh for me.

The driving physics feel more and more broken the more I play. The tanks can randomly rotate when you drive over parts of terrain that is not very smooth and tank collisions are just plain weird and make no sense at all... Overall the tanks just have too little grip, the tanks don't have any sense of weight and the way the suspension reacts to terrain looks very nice but it seems like the suspension can only pitch backwards and forwards and but not roll sideways when you take a fast turn or sit sideways on a hill side. When the tank lands a jump is just looks extremely wrong.

I like how the transmission is modeled in the tanks. Depending on the orientation of the tank (uphill, down hill, sideways in a hill or on flat ground) you need to use the wasd keys in a smart way to rotate the tank. Basically you want to always drive the tracks that have more weight on them. The tanks also have gearboxes which means when turning you rotation speed is affected very much at how high gear you are. You don't need to control the gears manually but it is still a nice touch and makes it more important and rewarding to position your tank when driving.

Nordschleife is just so fun to drive. I drove it first in gpl 16 years ago and it was fun then and still is.

Le mans is just big flat meh.

Well fia were probably utter donkeys aka totally useless when they looked at the data. They didn't see anything strange when they looked at piquet's data few years back despite piquet went full throttle in the middle of the turn and spun himself into the wall on purpose. They have probably some ex-F1 driver telling the other judges that "id looks do me he was braking 'dere so id couldn't be an accidend"...

It is almost funny how differently some of the tanks drive in wot and in wt. I just got T-50 and played couple of matches in it. That thing is kv-1 in wot. A very fast kv1. Also T34s for look like they have 5 metres of armor in every direction. Unlike in wot where they don't really have any usable armor at all.

Russians seem very op atm. They just more armor and better guns than the germans while mobility is the same for both...

I'd forget the chipping and consider doing a simple engine replacement instead. For 610£ you could have this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jagu ... M&hash=item3cd24fe8b7

Hmm so why did they cancel the event? I thought it was kinda big deal to do the indy 500? Don't have iracing so can't read their forums.

So I did some very (very) scientific input lag testing. Reading the forums people were suggesting either limiting the fps to 60 or 61 or using vsync. Other suggestion was to try to get above 120 or 200fps. My very very scientific method was to do burnouts with the ferrari 312. Less lag = less spins.

I did not notice any difference between 60fps or any other limits on or off. I tried 60fps with my current settings (I get at least 89fps in traffic (24 gt3 cars in imola on starting grid) and when driving alone I over 100fps easily). Felt no difference at all. Tried that with adding more graphics candy to bring the technically achievable upper fps limit closer to the 60fps limit. Felt no difference with the limit on. I was spinning out with full throttle launches.

Then I turned all graphics off and felt no difference with the limit on. Tried 60fps limit, then 61, then 72, then 133 and then 193. No difference. Then I turned the fps limit off. Felt maybe very little change with everything at lowest setting except aa and af both at 2. I get 229 with aa2 and af8 and 260 with aa2 and af2. If blindfolded I could not tell a difference between all those settings I tried. Well obviously not blindfolded, but you get my point. You may not see it or feel it but it is there because...

The strange is that despite me not feeling almost no differences at all I could control the burnout launches much easier when I was getting very high fps, like 260fps+. I could pretty reliably get full throttle launches (redlinining at 100% throttle and dropping it in 1st gear) and keep it under control. With either fps limited to any number or unlimited but lower fps it was practically impossible to get full throttle launches without spinning. I could literally not get one single launch without spinning.. Except when I was getting really high fps then it all became easy to get the launches without spinning. Same track, same car, same part of the track obviously.

When driving I felt no real difference, ffb was the same, car felt the same, lag felt the same but I could control the car better at high fps. The only difference I could really feel was the transitions from oversteer to neutral. When the rear starts to bite when coming out from powerslide or oversteer it was easier to control it.

Conclusion: Felt small difference and could control the car best with 260fps... Other settings had no effect. I'll try the vsync on next and I'd be really really surprised if with vsync I get best results...

The game doesn't even look that bad with everything off except some aa and af...

Quote from sinbad : but Fern Bay just captures that "style" of circuit so well, the layouts are excellent, and I would drive those tracks in any sim.

Fern bay is just filled with stupid chicanes. I could never get the fascination some people in lfs have with that track. Tbh I don't miss any of the lfs tracks. To me lfs tracks lack literally everything a nice race circuit has. The long kyoto track is kinda nice and as4 is mostly not horrible but for driving pleasure lfs tracks are just bad. For online racing the lfs tracks are fine because they are basically just as wide as they are long and being so easy to drive. But for sheer driving experience they are most just meh.

Like westhill. Is that even a race circuit? Blackwood? One long straight combined with totally forgettable 90 degree turns. Aston? If it was any wider you could hold land speed record runs there. How many of its turns are not flatout? Kyoto2? Rovals.. I can't remember the last time I even used that word. It was probably in iracing when they did not have enough proper race circuit for the road cars. And in lfs one of the best road courses is a roval. Kyoto3 is kinda nice but again there is that chicane. The rest of the track is very nice but overall any corner of suzuka beats any corner of kyoto.

Quote from Sobis :What are the system requirements for tanks? Same for WT? And do I just need to download WT to play ground forces or something additional?

I think you can find the system requirements on the war thunder website. As for downloading there is one client that allows to play both tanks and planes.

Quote from Crashgate3 :I've been playing WT for a fair bit, but not tried the ground forces. I'm still hugely into WoT, and I'm a little unsure after hearing stories of gameplay involving driving for 5 minutes, camping for a further five minutes before being one-shotted by a tank you can't even see.

There's currently a mission on in WoT to win a SuperPershing which is due to finish at the end of the month so I'll probably give it a go after that.

I've only played couple of days so far and I don't think the 5 minutes driving, 5 minutes camping and then being instakilled is true at all. I have only been playing the realistic battles and my impression is that in order to have a good game you need to get closer to the enemies to get clean shots. But if you just rush at the enemy they will easily kill you as well.

The best part is that the maps are not full of chokepoints like in wot so you don't ever get the kind of standoffs where both teams have big guns at both ends of a corridor and both are waiting the other one to make a move. It also seems to help that maps have multiple cap points instead of just one or two so the action tends to move around on the map as the tanks try to get control of all of the cap points.

I'd imagine there are many peeps gere who play wt but for some reason no thread. Anyways wt recently went to open beta with the tanks. Only russan and zerman tenks so far but it is much more fun than I expected.

The driving physics are a bit wonky. Imagine a 50 ton moped and you get the idea. But it is not bad at all to drive the tanks. It is fun. I have no idea half of the time (well, 90% of the time) what I'm doing in the menus and in the battles but it still feels a lot more like a tank game than world of tanks which is more like slow paced counterstrike with tanks (which is fun too but also "very taxing to the soul").

Any lfssers playing war thunder?

As this is the first post about the topic here are few screenies and youtubes:

Quote from tristancliffe :Struck me as being a very low quality track when I used 0.5 version. Never understood why people want realistic graphics/physics/sound, but are happy to play on a track mesh from 1993.

Because it is nordschleife? Many people like me get enormous hard-on everytime they get to drive that track in their favourite sim. Some parts of the driving surface are very low poly and it is a bit annoying. But it is still norschsleife...

Quote from Matrixi :Because it's fun and the mesh is still higher quality than anything in LFS.

The nordschleife still has too many polygon bumps which do not really exist at all in lfs. In lfs there really aren't any parts where you drive over polygon edges and get launched in the air or lose control when going over them...

For some reason for both nkpro and ac the addon tracks most of the time have really bad driving surfaces and I have no idea why. When I made my track for rfactor with btb the btb has options to physically adjust the road mesh to create bumps to the tracks and it is pretty difficult to create as low-poly corners or track surfaces in general. And that was in btb. In 3dmax you probably have trillions of options to adjust every dot of the mesh to get smooth curves and avoid low poly problems.

If the snoopy nordschleife was my track I would simply drive around one lap and mark all the parts have too few polys on the driving surface then just add more polys to those places. I have no idea how the last corner or the tankstelle corner (?) for example can still be like that... In some places you can count the polygons you are driving on with your fingers... And then there is the karoussel which is silky smooth for some reason...

I think bumps on the track are great. But not when they are polygon edges.

Did couple of laps in the z4 gt3 and my best was 7:00:3. Using the stock setup. Some of the corners from brünnchen to pflanzgarten are very strange when you try to take them flatout... car feels like it is going to go any direction at any given moment... but still stays planted and understeery if you just keep your foot down... Not good when I'm already 18s off the pace though

Quote from PMD9409 :Troy, you know I have freejoin.

I'm saying it is stuck at race end because people are supposedly in it, and its not allowing it to reset to practice/qualifying.

You need to leave the server so the server can move from race to practise.

If you are having trouble learning the ring my advice is to just get the fastest car, add all downforce and just drive around the track until you are sure you know where the turns go and how fast they are. Back in gpl when I was learning the track I used to know the first one third of the track kinda well, second third was ok with few scary horrible mistakes but the third portion was always pure guesswork. Then someone made gpl trainer thingy for gpl which allowed you to start on the track at certain points. So I finally learned enough to drive a lap without leaving safety margins on the table just in case there is a corner coming I don't remember. In gpl it helped because every corner was a challenge.

In rfactor the track was somewhat different so I just took some F1 car and used that to learn the track. You get tons of laps plus the car has lots of safety margin in it. It turns really well, it brakes really really well and as such you will not spin in some of those corners that will catch you out in the slower less grippy cars. After that you know where the turns go and you only really need to watch out for those fast bends that are flatout in F1 but not in more normal cars.

Super easy to drive for such powerful car. Tons and tons and tons of grip. only when it start sliding and tank slappering it is time to jump on the brakes and hope there is no wall in the direction where you are going now.

btw if you have problems joining on the lfs server go to the kegetys site and donwload and install the freejoin again. For me that did the trick and now I can join. Before reinstall I could find the server but not get in.
