I'll be there and I promise not to practise.

As for gt cars the gt2 beemer is really rare car online whereas the gt3s are everywhere. Maybe it would be more special with the gt2 instead?

long post:
Spoiler - click to reveal

Dear Assetto Corsa fans

We know that in the last few weeks we have been very silent, but there was a valid reason; all our resources and everybody in the dev team have been working real hard in order to finish Assetto Corsa and to prepare a preview Release Candidate version to journalists from all around the world. On September 29, we organized an exclusive event at Kunos Simulazioni headquarters inside "Autodromo di Vallelunga". Over 130 journalists have participated in our event, organized with the precious collaboration of Fanatec, NVIDIA, rSEAT, RSR-Nurburg, Media consultants and Ibuz.com. At the end of the scheduled press conference, during which we illustrated all Assetto Corsa features and the complex development process, our guests got the opportunity to try the release candidate preview of Assetto Corsa in 4 simulators with the latest Fanatec Clubsport Wheel V.2. Additionally, guests could try an amazing rSEAT RS1 M4A Full motion simulator, Fanatec Clubsport Wheel V.2 and pedals and Oculus Rift SDK2 . So yes, we know you've been waiting for it, Assetto Corsa supports Oculus SDK2!
We could have ended the day there and it would have been a cool typical videogame presentation, but you know we breath motorsport and so we wanted a much more immersive experience for our guests. At the Vallelunga circuit pitlane, 15 real Sportcars that are also included in Assetto Corsa, were available for test drive! We wanted to demonstrate and let our guests compare the fidelity of our simulator with a direct comparison to reality. We will soon post footage, photos and more info about the event, but first let us share with you the info about Assetto Corsa.

First of all, let us thank you for the incredible support we got to this amazing project and to our software house, by participating in the Early Access program. Lot's of you have been following this project and our work for a little bit less than a year and probably do not know that when we decided to create and announce Assetto Corsa in 2011, we were thinking to include in version 1.0, a total amount of 15 cars and 3 to 4 italian circuits. Today, Assetto Corsa 1.0 includes circuits like Monza, NurburgringGP, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and more. All of them created with the use of Laserscan technology. It also includes incredible cars, produced by the likes of Ferrari, McLaren, Pagani, Mercedes, BMW, Alfa Romeo and much more.
Even more circuits and cars are under development and will be released after version1.0 of Assetto Corsa. Lot's of those new contents will be free add-ons! This is our way to say thank you for the support you have given us.
Grazie!

Assetto Corsa Release Candidate will be published in the following days. We're working with the feedback of our internal beta-testing team, in order to iron out bugs and improve features. The Release Candidate version has substantial differences from the current Steam Early Access version. New features and improvements to the graphics engine, a brand new sound engine based on FMOD Studio that guarantees more immersion, reverb effects and the ability to control a whole new series of additional effects. A complete remake of all the sounds of every single car has been necessary; an incredible amount of work for our sound engineer.

Some of the features of the new graphics engine, have been already included in the early access build release at the end of the summer. The fantastic videos and screenshots released by the community have shown the a great appreciation of the new engine, but the best is yet to come. Assetto Corsa v1.0 will include heat shimmering, lens flare, God-rays, depth of field improvements, FXAA, tone mapping and more. Every single post processing effect can be activated from the graphics options in order to give you the freedom to configure Assetto Corsa to your specific needs, both in terms of visual quality and performance scalability. Assetto Corsa guarantees adequate frame rate performances, from the most powerful PCs, to the minimum requested hardware configuration. As a matter of fact, the new release also includes support for 4K resolution, static reflections for low performance PCs, dust and dirt on cars, improved smoke and particles, new pilot 3D model that is more detailed and realistic, and collidable objects on circuits.

Assetto Corsa Release Candidate also includes damage to the car bodies, wings, suspensions, engine, gearbox and tyres. Tyres in particular can now simulate blistering, graining, flat spots and blow ups. Because of all these simulated damages and your always important requests, we work hard to include a feature that we are sure will make everybody excited. Pitstops! We have implemented pitstops with animated cinematic pitcrew. Assetto Corsa v1.0 pitstops implementation will support only multiplayer races, but we're working hard to include single player pitstops in one of our next free updates. The delay on the single player implementation, is caused by the need to define and balance the AI pitstop strategy during races.

Assetto Corsa v1.0 is not the end of the journey. More contents and features are being developed and we will inform you about them in the following days. In the mean time, here is the list of the new contents that you will find in Assetto Corsa Release Candidate:
The Lotus 2-11 GT4 and Lotus Exige S, as well as a unique version of the Evora GTE featuring all body panels made entirely of carbonfibre and substantial weight savings.
The much anticipated Ferrari 458 GT2 and Mercedes-Benz SLS GT3.
Ferrari LaFerrari which includes in Assetto Corsa a very advanced simulation of hybrid systems.
Silverstone National and the legendary SPA-Francorchamps recreated in extreme detail using Laserscan technology.
A surprise new entry that also showcases the close connection of Assetto Corsa dev team with the community. We're extremely happy to announce the Carroll-Shelby Cobra 427SC as an official licensed content.
We had plans to include this car in our officially licensed content, but we were surprised and impressed by the work of a great modder that published some amazing screenshots of his work. His mod has took the community by storm and has been highly appraised by everybody. This convinced us that we had to do something about it. We contacted Carrol-Shelby and got the official license and at the same time we worked with the modder and acquired his work. So here it is, the Shelby Cobra 427SC as a free bonus content for Assetto Corsa 1.0. Obviously the already graet physics have been re-implemented, the graphics and sound assets have been updated and are now completely compatible with Assetto Corsa new graphics and sound engine.
We think this is a great tribute to the modder's outstanding work and a compliment and appreciation to the work of the hundreds of modders that are actively supporting Assetto Corsa.

Please enjoy some in-game screenshots directly from the Release Candidate that will be published as soon as possible.
Again, thank you for the great support!

Quote from jibber :Console gaming (or gaming in general) is in a sad state. In a few years games will be even more shitty, and they'll make us pay for the demo, then the 30% of the full game, and THEN the rest of the game in form of DLC, and it will suck and be no fun to play after two hours...

People found halfway finished DLC hidden on the destiny discs, it's accessible in the game through a simple glitch. There's a season pass for The Evil Within on the xbox marketplace, the game isn't even out yet.

That is not even bad. What is bad that all big companies are pushing micro transactions into single player games. Not only do you need to get dlc after finishing 1/3rd of the original length of the game but that 1/3rd is basically 1/9th of the lenghh of the game but is stretched to 1/3 by slowing down your progress so you can buy exp/credit boosters, items and in-game money with real money. It all adds into one big fail when you notice that in order for such system to work you practically need always-online drm... among other things...

Future of consoles and big games is just one big money grab. Only real next gen feature of ps4 and xbone is microtransactions in single player games. And it will only get worse..

I did not mean stiff diff. I mean solid rear axle which directly connects the rear tires... You know, like this: http://www.mrtruck.net/09ram1500.htm

Apparently the sochi weekend came too soon so marussia did not have time to sell the seat. It takes a lot more time for potential drivers to sort out their sponsors. That or they just decided it was cheaper to not run the car.

3rd drivers are just extra income for the teams. When it comes to driving the cars the teams are happier to not have anyone drive the car than to have the 3rd driver drive the car...

Some infos about 1.0 and later coming content. Apparently trento bondone will be in 1.0. Tbh I never really cared about that track. Also if you look at here:
https://www.lfs.net/forum/post/1870901#post1870901
where I listed a lot of cars not yet in ac there are still lots of cars in that list that are not mentioned in that article (one of the rufs, supra, celica, ae-86, GT-86 GT4, Toyota TS040 HYBRID)

Apparently zandvoort is coming to ac but not in 1.0. Same with Silverstone historical 60s and Monza 1962.

New cars in 1.0 look like to be
Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde
Ferrari 458 GT2
La ferrari
Mercedes AMG SLS GT3

Sadly the nissan gtr is coming after 1.0 so that probably means awd support is coming later as well. From modding pov this means we won't be seeing stuff like rally cars any soon . Same with solid rear axle support. There are tons of interesting cars with that kind of horse carriage rear suspension that would make nice addition to ac...

I never said he aquaplaned off at pitlane speeds. Turn 7 in suzuka is very fast blind turn (even though the apex is not blind, the exit is) and the apex is also on top of hill which means the car gets lighter as it goes over the hill and in the wet you don't really have any room to go wide because the wet kerbs are slippery as well. My point really was that bianchi could have slowed down but still aquaplaned off. Or had a moment with going back on throttle. Or just have a "moment" at the apex.

Here is a lap from 2005:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-f83ruqcOk
Notice that the speed through turn 7 is about 120kmh when he is going as fast as he can. Also notice that if you go off the runoff is downhill.

Here is link to google maps on that corner:
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=114275729164008064732.0004786811016e795085a
The trajectory imho shows that the car went off the track straight after apex which suggests he did aquaplane off the track. He did go head on into the barriers/tractor but if you look at sutil's crash he went off rear first but his car spun around and he hit the barrier head first so one could imagine the same thing happened with bianchi. Also the speeds look quite comparable with sutil and bianchi.

Quote from NotAnIllusion :It's beside the point anyway, I was obviously saying that once the safety car is on the track, there is no point in driving flat out to gain time which is why it's safer than waved double yellows, even if waved double yellows required coming to a full stop at the first relevant marshal post.

But it is possible jules was going really really slow (for an f1 car) and still aquaplaned off the track.

There is no option to search for posts made by username on threads. For example if I wanted to find my own posts in this thread I could just search for them on the old forum (search from thread in the thread tools) but now there is no way other than to manually search. I sometimes use that to search my own username in a thread just to see what I've written earlier so I don't write the same thing twice...

Quote from DeadWolfBones :Hopefully this doesn't come off as ghoulish or anything, but who do we figure will start in Sochi for Marussia? Rossi or Stevens?

Nah, marussia will sell the seat to the highest bidder. The way the 3rd driver business seems to work in F1 is that the 3rd drivers pay just to be called "3rd drivers" or "test drivers". =To have a driving job in F1 in their resumes. The 3rd drivers only get to drive the cars though when the actual drivers are lagging behind on their payments and need some pressuring... When the actual drivers are not able to drive it is basically a lotterery who gets the drive...

E: actually I think it could be one of the ferrari prospects that get to drive the marussia. If I have not misundertood bianchi's seat is paid by ferrari and as such it is ferrari's seat. My "money" is on Raffaele Marciello.

Quote from Hyperactive :It is probably time to start thinking about putting skirts on the tractors that need to go on track during the race.

That's more like time to send the safety car out as soon as some rescue staff and/or stuff is operating within the bounds of the track and its run-off areas.

Safety car is not an instant accident preventer. Plenty of cars will drive past that spot during that time it takes the safety car to slow down the field. It was double waved yellows after all. And I think fia already has preplanned when to bring out a safety car if a car goes off in certain place of the track. In some cases even the teams have planned this (renault/singapore). In that place of the track it was apparently decided that it is safe enough to not bring out the safety car because there is a tractor really close there that can retrieve the car in minutes. Sadly in this case there were other contributing factors (fast sweeping corner in the wet with chance of cars aquaplaning off the track). If anything the lesson here is that in the wet some corners become a lot more dangerous than in the dry and the decision to deploy the safety car should reflect that. But more importantly the marshalls need to be trained so that they don't enter the track if it is not safe.

That situation was very typical instance of car being away from the racing line and it looks almost like a perfect example of situation that does not need safety car. I say almost because it was wet and one could assume the car was going off because of aquaplaning (or oil on track). One could think that if one car does that then other cars behind it can do it too. Nobody knew why sutil went off until later when he explained it. But even in such situation the double waved yellows should slow down the cars enough. We still don't know the cause of the incident. Car hitting a tractor is not a cause, it is just consequence and there are trillion different things that contributed and could have contributed to it.

It could be a mechanical failure in bianchi's car, tire failure, bianchi not slowing down enough, aquaplaning, oil on track, wrongly placed green flag which caused drivers to get on power too soon which then turned into aquaplaning and crash. Or it could be simply that the safety crews were too eager to send the tractor out to retrieve the car putting themselves into great danger.

It could have been much more nasty than it was. Someone could say it was just pure luck no marshalls died. I don't think safety car could have prevented that accident.

I simply assumed there was some kind of accident with the tractor and some track marshall. Only when that accident scene was shown with bianchi's name on the screen it dawned to me there could be another car there. And you could see sutil standing there which also indicated sutil was not the person who was injured.

Quote from Hyperactive :Well I don't see anything special with vettel leaving rbr if rbr can't give him a winning car. It is not like teams are too shamed about dropping under performing drivers either. From drivers pov the stupidest thing to do is to stay in non-winning car because of some kind of personal commitment if you have better offers.

Depends how you're thinking. I find it respectable to stay with the team even in the worst times and work together to try getting back to the top. Just like Schumi did. Look back what they've done with Todt and Brawn. I guess that's what Alonso really wanted to achieve, but all this mess at Ferrari didn't help (incompetent team leadership, wind tunnel fail, etc). Now you just say it was a waste of time to wait that much. That's right.

On the other hand, of course if you have no other goals but WDC only, then team hopping is the only solution.

Respectable? There is no team in f1 that will pay that respect back. Team has a bad year then the team will just get on with it. Driver has bad year and he is lucky to have a seat next year.

What schumi did was to go to ferrari with the aim to build it into champion. And he did not do anything alone. There were a lot of other people involved. Driver can not design a fast car, a driver can not hire the best people or restructure the team. There is absolutely no reason why a driver should not always try to be in the best car. Not doing so is nothing else than detrimental to his own career.

And what other goals should driver have than to win wdc?

But moving to ferrari from rbr seems like really odd move. But who knows. How many people did think hamilton moving to merc was a good move at the time?

Wonder who will drive the 2nd toro rosso car next season.. Also can't help but feel sad for bianchi. Stuck in that red turd in the back of the grid with almost no room to show any kind of skill. If ferrari won't move him to at least to sauber next season then his career is done imho.

When the snow melts, you get ice. That's even more dangerous :'D

Actually when the snow melts you get water.

I doubt that thing will melt the ice under the snow anyways. It would probably take really long time to melt the ice with that and when you do that you effectively start blowing away the road too. Probably what is left after that thing has gone is slush. That of course freezes into ice and snow again but it is not slippery flat ice but something that is still kinda slippery but not dangerously so.

A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation.[1][2] As with most (if not all) forms of scientific knowledge, scientific theories are inductive in nature and aim for predictive power and explanatory force.[3][4]

The strength of a scientific theory is related to the diversity of phenomena it can explain, and to its elegance and simplicity (Occam's razor). As additional scientific evidence is gathered, a scientific theory may be rejected or modified if it does not fit the new empirical findings- in such circumstances, a more accurate theory is then desired. In certain cases, the less-accurate unmodified scientific theory can still be treated as a theory if it is useful (due to its sheer simplicity) as an approximation under specific conditions (e.g. Newton's laws of motion as an approximation to special relativity at velocities which are small relative to the speed of light).

Scientific theories are testable and make falsifiable predictions. They describe the causal elements responsible for a particular natural phenomenon, and are used to explain and predict aspects of the physical universe or specific areas of inquiry (e.g. electricity, chemistry, astronomy). Scientists use theories as a foundation to gain further scientific knowledge, as well as to accomplish goals such as inventing technology or curing disease. Scientific theories are the most reliable, rigorous, and comprehensive form of scientific knowledge.[3] This is significantly different from the common usage of the word "theory", which implies that something is a conjecture, hypothesis, or guess (i.e., unsubstantiated and speculative).[5]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_theory

It helps if you can even pretend to understand the very basics...
