Hi! I finally got my momo wheel today, and I've been racing pretty much ever since I got it. I've decided to use the XRT mostly in the beginning, as I've heard that "if you master that one, you'll learn the other cars quickly". Dunno if that's true (any comments on this??), but I'm getting more and more comfy with it. I've been on gentlefoot.com#2 mostly, and I'm currently at 3:09 with default setup. Need to shave off another 10 seconds from that, but at least I'm improving.

My MOMO arrived today, and my first impressions are great!!! I need to modify my table sligthly to accomodate it though..

One question about settings: I adjusted all the parameters in the Profiler according to the LSF manual, and no problems there. But I wonder how I should adjust the "wheel turn degrees" and "wheel turn compensation" in LSF itself... AFAIK the MOMO has 220 degrees rotation, right, so I was thinking I'd set the degrees of rotation to 210 or somesuch to prevent the wheel from slamming into the extreme when drifting. (if you get my meaning) However this didn't seem to work. I'm a bit confused about the correspondence between the degrees of rotation and the recalibrate axes. Anyone got any advice here? Thanks!

BTW maybe I should ask this in a different thread, but..

Amazing work!! Will this affect performance significantly BTW?

EDIT: I tried it, and it looks and runs smooth as silk. Along with 4X antialiasing and 16X anisotropic filtering the game looks really really nice. Now I'm all good to go and ready to go pick up my momo wheel tomorrow. Can't wait to get playing...

Quote from Forbin :No, you probably won't really learn much about driving a real car with a manual transmission by playing LFS. The clutch simulation at the moment is not the greatest (...)

I'm curious about this.. how does the clutch actually work in LSF? Say you give it a little bit of throttle and slowly release the clutch, will the transition from "standing still, high revs" to "moving, low revs" be smooth and realistic, or what? Does the transition kick in at one given point after you've lifted the clutch slightly, or does it kick in once you lift it even the slightest? IMO it's very impressive if they managed to replicate this.

I don't receive my momo 'till tomorrow, so I'm just curious.. I hope it's not too noisy, because I live in a student hall and I wouldn't want to disturb my next-door neighbour too much.. But they'll have to tear it out of my cold dead hands to take it away from me anyway!

OT, I imagine the vibration reduction thing could also work for loudspeakers? I mean, if you place it on something soft instead of right on the floor the low frequency noise sound might be attenuated slightly over a distance..

Has anyone tried placing some cotton/cloth/paper or some other soft material between the clamps and the table? I imagine a lot of the sound which can be heard in the room next door come from the rattling and rumbling of the table itself..?

I just spoke to the store, and they confirmed that my MOMO is arriving at the store tomorrow! Which means that my productivity --> 0 tomorrow, so I better get some work done this afternoon.

Quote from Blackout :Well...being a idiot I bought Race 07 and the whole game just feels awful, plain awful. I don't actually know what is it, but I guess it's the fact that FFB doesn't tell what the front wheels are doing, and it shakes a lot.

I haven't played Race07, but THE thing I like the most about LFS is the excellent return-to-centre thing which lets your steering wheel tell you where the front wheels are pointing at any given time, especially when you drift. Feels very good.

Quote from Venus :I don't play that server, but I've been there. The point is pretty simple. You start off with a standard car (usually uF1) and some money. The faster you go (without getting caught by cops) the more money you make. If cops catch you, u get fined. In one of the garages, is a lottery, where u can win xtra cash. The point is to get enough money so u can get the best car, so the cops can't catch you, and thus make the most money.

I think there is a mod for it, I'm not sure on that bit...

Ven

OK, thanks for explaining it! Sounds a bit too "special" for my tastes, though.

Looking forward to meeting you all online!

Me again.. seems like my visit here was a short one for now. My steering wheel has a problem, so I'll hand it back to the shop and get a MOMO instead. They'll have to order it from abroad, which means no LFS for some time for me. I already can't wait to get the new wheel! This game rocks.

Quote from mongoosetierney :Try CTRA1(formerly the CTRA/STCC servers) for some racing but if you want to relax while getting back on your feet try some of the cruise servers if you like.

Could someone briefly explain to me the point of the cruising servers? I don't get the idea.. seems like you get credits for driving round and round really slow on the right hand side of the road..

Can anyone recommend some noob-friendly servers where players obey the courtesy rules of racing (no ramming, be polite etc) but where the level isn't so high that I'd get flamed for my n00biness right away? I want to learn the tracks and familiarize myself with the cars, and it's more fun online than against the AI.. I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking along these lines..

Quote from 50-3 :Point aren't useless you can bost about how yours is bigger :P

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I'm wondering about the same thing.. I recall reading somewhere before I upgraded to S2 something along the lines of "in the demo you might meet players who drive carelessly, but in S2 this will rarely happen because drivers have a reputation to care about". So I was wondering if this was referring to the credit system..? Or something else?

Seems I'm already running the newest drivers, so that shouldn't be the problem. I'm quite convinced that this is a hardware issue, I couldn't find anything on Google. So I'll make that call to the store tomorrow. From what I gather the MOMO is supposed to be leaps and bounds better than the EX, with a much stronger FFB. And playing LFS with an inferior steering wheel is nothing short of heresy.

Thanks for your reply! After some consideration, I'm afraid the G25 is too expensive for me.. Since the MOMO is half the price (in Norway at least) and some players actually prefer it over the G25, I think I'll go with the MOMO. I'll call the store tomorrow and explain the situation and ask them to order a MOMO for me. (don't think they have it in their shelves yet)

Before I make the call though.. is there any chance that the steering wheel issues that I'm experiencing are software related? Could my drivers be out of date? I visited Logitech's webpage, but I couldn't find any newer drivers..

Sorry, I don't mean to threadjack, but then again I didn't want to create yet another topic about this..

My Logitech Formula Force EX is broken, and I'm going to return it to the store and complain. Thing is, I already owned one of these wheels, but that one broke too, so this time I'm going to get a different wheel. The key requirement is smoothness and strength and very good return-to-center force feedback. With my Formula Force EX, I'm not able to turn the force strength above 30 (out of 200) in LFS before it starts violently skipping and shaking when I turn, which is totally unacceptable of course. I want a wheel which retains smoothness in all situations.

Clutch is also great, but not a necessity. I'm willing to pay up to 50£ in addition to what the Formula Force EX cost me.

Any suggestions? It seems that the DFP is not available in Norway.. Logitech's webpages list only the G25, MOMO and the one I have now..
