A summary of the unanswered questions in Lost! Another classic from Collegehumor

BTW I watched the first 1,5 seasons but then the number of weird random events just seemed to increase exponentially so I quit. Since then I've vowed never to watch another series which hasn't been finished yet.

I really liked that Kaemmer's post actually. I think he really did a good job of conveying the message without dumbing it down so much that it just got trivial.

Quote from dadge :what a stupid comment to make. bullfighting has been around for thousands of years. it's not like they had much to do for entertainment.
it's obvious you came to that conclussion with 0 research.
i'll make it easy for you:

The spectacle of bullfighting has existed in one form or another since ancient days.

Well nobody is disputing that it's got a long history. But today, interest among the Spanish is dwindling while tourists make up more and more of the spectators. In fact polls show that less than 30% of all Spanish show any interest in bullfighting at all, and less than 2% of the population watch a live bullfight every year. I was on vacation in Spain earlier this year and learnt quite a lot about it. In Catalunya all the bullfighting rings have been closed except the one in Barcelona, which is kept open only for the tourists.

Just because something has been around for a long time doesn't make it right.

Quote from Uke :Did i sound stupid? ;S I tough that if you join a season it's like you have a race per week or something like that Lol..

The track changes every week, and you can race as many times as you want during the week. Each season lasts 12 weeks, but only 8 weeks will count towards the championship. So you can skip four weeks and still be among the top contenders (theoretically, that is).

If you complete one race every week in at least 8 weeks in a season you will also get some iRacing $$ which you can spend to buy new content or renew your subscription. The details can be found here (scroll down to the "racing participation program" bit.

I was an iRacing subscriber for four months last spring, and enjoyed it a lot. I even got a Pro licence just driving the core content and the skippy..! So yeah I raced quite a lot. While I certainly enjoyed the overall experience, there were some things missing from the core service which I wasn't too pleased with.. for me, the most important things missing were clutch/gearbox modeling and weather/variable track conditions. While I was a subscriber they just seemed to be pouring out new cars and tracks without changing the core service much.

Then a lot of things happened in my life.. long story short, I am currently on a forced simracing hiatus until the summer. All this time I felt very certain that by the time I get back, iRaicing will have had plenty of time to implement the stuff that I was missing. The plan was to jump right back into iRacing and stay there.

However, things didn't turn out quite that way.. even now, a year later, the core service is virtually unchanged! I think it is a major disappointment that they still haven't been able to implement at least a very basic clutch modeling system... or brake heating... or driver changes... or dynamic lighting...

All in all I'm quite disappointed. And while iRacing has been at a near standstill in this department the last year, things have happened elsewhere in the simcaring world. nKP has seen some major updates and lots of new people are joining, and I already liked the physics better in nKP than iRacing a year ago. Race2Play offers sanctioned and organized racing for all the major sims, so it's not like iRacing is the only place you can find that!

It seems that other sims are overtaking iRacing in certain areas while iRacing itself has stagnated (except for the # of tracks and cars).

However, iRacing has a couple of very strong points which, in the end, I think will probably reel me back in. For me, those are:
  • The quality of the tracks. The track surface is just miles ahead of anything else. It really brings a whole new dimension to sim racing,
  • The quality of racing. While it is certainly possible to find good clean racing in other sims as well, you will have to look for it. Whereas in iRacing, the standards are very high across the board. I don't know.. the whole atmosphere of the races (including the ever-present SR threat..!) makes it feel more important and more real than other sims.
  • The (faint, I admit..) possibility that I might make my way to the iRacing Drivers' World Championship some time in the future and race against the big guns. Well, what can you say, at least it gives me something to aim for
So while I'm disappointed with the development in the past year, and other sims have been doing well in the mean time, I still think iRacing provides something unique which will, eventually, make me re-subscribe.

I do understand that advancing through the ranks may not be as steep as switching to D but I also wonder how many add the bits and pieces to the cart and then fall off the chair when they see the grand total.

Certainly, luring customers in an extra at a time has to be more remunerative than scaring them away..?

Which is why I think they should change the discount system. As it stands, you have to purchase a lot of items in one go to get a discount. IMO it would make more sense to do this on a yearly basis. So if you've bought more than 6 items in the previous year you get the 20% discount refunded to you. That way people can buy a new track or a new car every now and then without having to make a massive purchase and plan ahead so much.

I could have all the time in the world, but unless I am getting paid (well) to do it, I would never practice/race like he does.

Well, he's going to win $10,000 worth of money / prizes, so...

I've not had enough time to sift through all the posts on DI; despite it being a small community there are a couple of long time users who feel entitled to do whatever they like and post a lot of cruft about their (unfounded?) feelings.

Now this wouldn't be too much of a problem if only Kunos didn't waste time replying to make them happy.

Hehe, the ever recurring issue...

Take a look here for a way of fixing this. Sounds like there's some dirt inside your POT mechanism. If the warranty has expired, you have nothing to loose by opening them up. Just be careful not to snap any of the thin wires! Look at the instructions posted here to figure out how to open up your pedals.

Good luck!

Quote from Bose321 :Well, my G25 died. Now I 'have' to order this wheel. Do I just need the wheel and pedals, or also the mounting clamp bla bla?

And a shifter?

Just FYI: if you keep your faulty G25 plugged in you can still use the G25 shifter. That's what I did. The way that the Fanatec shifter is mounted to the wheel just looks too flimsy and non-rigid to me..

If you're gonna hard mount the wheel you won't need a mounting clamp. Otherwise you might consider getting the clamp.. better ask someone else about that, since I hard mounted mine right away.

- Chassis inertia in all 3 axes (roll, pitch, yaw) has been adjusted to match the numbers supplied by the Manufacturer. Very small changes were made to the wheel inertias, again due to additional data from the manufacturer. Engine inertia and the driveline inertias have been modified to more closely match real world behavior.

Corvette C6R

- Chassis inertia in all 3 axes (roll, pitch, yaw) has been adjusted slightly. Rear wheel inertia and engine, clutch and driveline inertias are subtly massaged based on new data.

- Aero forces from body roll are improved.

- Brake bias in car adjustment is now limited to +/- 3%

- A small tweak to the updated tire model on this car has been made that gives more grip loss when sliding at high speed.

Star Mazda

- Chassis inertia in all 3 axes (roll, pitch, yaw) has been adjusted. Engine inertia adjusted to reflect new driveline engineering data.

- A small tweak to the updated tire model on this car has been made that gives more grip loss when sliding at high speed.

Radical SR8

- Chassis inertia in all 3 axes (roll, pitch, yaw) has been adjusted per real-world driver feedback.

Interesting! Looking forward to DaveWS' take on the inertia changes. Less snappiness, more weighty feel perhaps....???

Also, I wonder how the aliens will respond to the brake bias adjustments in the Corvette.

Hi,

The Wiimote contains a camera which works at 120FPS. When you play on your Wii the Wiimote detects the LEDs on the SensorBar thing. When you use the Wiimote for FreeTrack the Wiimote is stationary (you could mount it on your monitor for example) and it detects the movement of the LEDs on your cap. Apparently it gives very smooth and good tracking. Definitely worth a go I'd say!

being as hardcore (imagine the most sarcastic voice youve ever heard saying it) as it is the only reset you get is right back down to the start meaning that you can drive for 10 minutes going slowly everywhere hoping not to misjudge a corner until you eventually do crash into the outside and have to start over

Oh, hang on, you mean it's like ----- like real racing?? What a horror!

Quote from DaveWS :Compare with other sims if you want.

I think this is the best way to do it! How does it compare to the C6.R in rFactor? What about the GTR class in LFS?

I have never tried the G27, so I can't comment. But according to Inside Sim Racing the wheel is significantly more noisy than the G25. (about 30 seconds into that clip you can hear it for yourself) Which is something to keep in mind I guess. But overall the G27 is said to have better force feedback than the G25

As for the Fanatec Shifter, I didn't buy that one so I couldn't say.. but from what I've heard, the clamping mechanism is crap, so you'd probably want to come up with some custom method for clamping it to your desk or whatever. The shifter itself is supposed to be good, though.

The GT3RS Clubsport edition includes the Clubsport pedals. I'd pay double that price for the pedals alone!! (Read my review if you want more info)

As for the wheel.. here's a little review I wrote on another forum:

Quote :

The G25 is obviously a very good wheel. The things I liked most about the G25 were its responsiveness/speed and strength, so I was curious as to how the GT3RS would compare. Especially after reading that some 911 Turbo owners complained that their wheel was a bit sluggish.

Well, no need to worry! With the most recent software you can enable the so-called "drift mode". Why on earth they called it drift mode and why it isn't enabled by default is beyond me. What it basically does is to remove the internal resistance of the wheel. The net result is that the wheel is every bit as responsive and quick as the G25.

As for strength, the wheel is as strong (if not stronger) than the G25. But more important is the way in which the force is delivered. I guess it's a combination of electronics and the belt drive, but the net result is that the wheel feels very very smooth. The transitions from weak to strong force feedback is completely dynamic with no noticeable notchiness or "force levels". With my G25 I normally used quite low force feedback because it felt like the forces leveled off (saturated) quite early when turning. With the GT3RS I'm able to use higher forces because it doesn't saturate as quickly. I guess you can say that FFB fidelity is maintained for much higher forces than with the G25.

Add the big diameter of the wheel, the thickness of the grip and the lovely alcantara leather and it really feels terrific to race with.

And, of course, this wheel is quiet! My G25 was making a lot of noise towards the end when going over bumps and stuff. That's not the case with the GT3RS. Sure it's not 100% quiet (you can certainly hear the belt moving) but it's not something that bothers me at all. I'm playing with headphones, and then I don't hear anything at all. So no need to worry that you're going to disturb someone in the room next door!

In my opinion it's a far better wheel than the G25 on every account.

Hm.. I'm sure I read somewhere that the new cars have the new tyre physics too, but of course I can't remember where.. so I could be wrong about that!

Does anyone else know?

Quote from DaveWS :The negatives for me are the tyres. I'm probably going to be alone in this as usual, but for me it feels like rFactor gave them their tyre model for this car. It feels like the max slip angles are at around 2 degrees. You can feel it through the FFB, in the way the centering force goes up from nothing to max with only a tiny amount of steering. The car is either constantly in understeer mode, or suddenly turning into uncontrollable oversteer without any warning. There is no middle zone.

Out of curiosity, how do you know this isn't accurate? Maybe these cars/tires really have low slip angles and are a bit "snappy"? After all, iRacing just tuned their tire model, so I believe they have some kind of idea that this is a better model than the old one..?

Seems to me that many simracers expect all race cars to have an extremely large and smooth transition from max traction <---> no traction. (LFS is extreme in this regard)

That begs the question: WHY? If iRacing had made their own telemetry tool, I guess it could be understood, but now it's just weird.. has there been an official statement about this?
