If you read through the various posts and threads on this topic, the problem reveals itself - there is no 'official' reference point.

Everyone wants to impose their view of what blue flag means, based on
either their favorite form of racing, their team views, the views of the 20
people they frequently race against - whatever.

Maybe the dev's should take the responsibility of presenting an
"on line racing guide" as part of the game. Through whatever means-
a splash screen, a tab, a readme file. Sure they can be ignored, but they could at least be referenced.

If you were racing on a server, it would not be so much a matter of interpretation anymore, there would be a reference to point an offending
driver to, and you could say 'this is what we expect in these situations'.

Whatever is included, and however it is concluded ( consensus, using
a specific set of rules from the rule world) isn't the relevant issue at the moment. Since it is a game, or sim if you prefer, the rules don't necessarily have to be strictly from the real world, just as driving the sim
isn't strictly the same as the real world.

What I'm suggesting is simply a common reference point, not that the dev's dictate what can and can't be done. The forum is not the place to
decree what is and isn't proper behavior, as a vast majority of people
don't view it. The same with a given team website or server.

There is only one way to be certain that everyone who plays the game
is on the same page, and that's via the game itself.

The problem is not a rules interpretation - at least for most decent people
playing the game ( fast or slow, it doesn't matter, a lot of people do follow
the correct methods for dealing with blue flags).

The big problem comes with people doing mid race joins - jumping in on lap
4 of 6, directly in front of the lead pack, then refusing to move, or trying
desperatly to race with the leader, to prove something.

There is no valid excuse for this - people often say they want to practice for the next race. Chances are if they aren't alert enough to check the map and consider what they are doing in leaving the pits, they aren't going to be very alert on the track, and will usually end up taking people out.

There is no valid excuse for this, and it's usually what gets people so
angry. Imagine any form of real life racing in which the weakest team
enters it's car into the race at lap 30 of 60, directly in front of the lead pack, and refuses to obey a blue flag because they 'need to get ready
for the next race'.

Probably already been mentioned, but the MRT was the only open wheel car until S2, and a lot of people drove it like mad.

Depends on what you want though, LFS does offer a lot of variety
( i didn't say enough, I said a lot )

I have to ask.....not that there's anything wrong with that

I did a similar thing, although the racer had made the mistake of putting his picture in his lfs world profile, so I downloaded it, turned him into a transvestite, and put some interesting comments all over the skin.

But, as there is no way to prevent it, that means it will get done.
Public servers are stocked with people who can only get attention
through being obnoxious, and they are usually more interested in
aggravating you than having your praticular skin.

Post you skin on the forum when you've developed it, and place hidden
indications that you are the creator - make a nearly transparent reference
to 'skin by such and such' some where out of the way. Incorporate your name in a way that can't easily be erased i.e. across one of the major elements in colors that blend in, again, in a fairly transparent manor.

Make your first display of it around people you know well - none of this will stop theft, but might make you feel better knowing that you don't have get in to ( desired ) argument of 'nu-huh, you stole it from ME'.

In the end, take comfort in knowing you achieved what you set out to do,
and also, know that the person stealing it is probably not skilled at other
aspects of LFS, so go out and beat the hell out of them on the track
at every possiblity.

I respect people who drive professionally in the real world.
LFS is a game, very enjoyable, but still a game.

As a game, I enjoy racing against people who can control their
emotions and their cars - i.e. realizing you're about to pull a
Coulthard, and backing off and waiting for a more suitable opportunity.

A quality player understands all the cars around him, and anticipates
how to deal with situations safely, and god forbide, finishes one position further back rather than doing something desperate that will probably take
other people out.

Quote from Zachary Zoomy :great another patch! I bet V6 will be out tomorrow

Great, this means an official patch will come some day.
Great, this means an incompatible patch will come some day.
Great this means S2 beta will be complete someday
Great that means S3 someday.
Great, that means S3 Final.
Great, no more LFS updates.
Great the sun burns itself out.

Depressing stuff, indeed.

Can't wait to see this one in person, and niki hit the nail on the head -
using the actual images from the car as opposed to other earth images
was the correct approach - the car is a lot closer to the real car than I expected it to be.

I.M.,

You're doing quite well with this.

For those complaining that it's not hi-res enough, not this, or not that,
I'm anxious to see your vastly improved results.

It turned out pretty well, I thought. And he seemed pleased.
Anyway, I hope you like it.

Quote from sidi :I guess once you sussed out ppl just need to press ctrl+shift to get your licensed name you had to change your ways Big grin and for a tip i can only suggest hard work as lfs demands lots of practice Smile

Exactly. All of the statements from the post - starter in effect sum up to

"Hi, I really enjoyed being a dick and crashing everyone, driving the wrong way, etc etc, for the past month or two. Now I'm banned on every public server, and it's not as much fun when there's noone left to piss off......I guess I've learned my lesson...I'm ready to be less dick-like, if I have to"

Maybe you have learned your lesson. Hope it's applicable to the next game
you buy.

Quote from nikimere :I've heard these arguements before... they're pretty poor tbh!
There is no such place on a race track where you cant overtake.
Every inch of tarmac is an overtaking opportunity.
People who say "ohhh you cant pass there" should learn how to race.

The real problem lies in HOW people try to pass.
There are certain turns in which a late apex is required to get through the next section. Take for instance the last right hander at Aston Club.
If a car was beside (inside) me as I approached the braking /turn in point, it's common sense that they've taken the position, and I SHOULD yield.

The problem is, many people ( not only noobs) see a piece of daylight as you drive beyond the geometric line going into the corner- and floor it -.
They could be 3 car lengths behind you as you start the turn in, but they floor it and arrive at the apex under FULL braking exactly at the time that you are hitting the apex under a controlled arc. There is no option for you in this position, you've commited to the racing line, and the only escape lane is driving into the wall.

There is no thought to what will happen once they reach the apex - which usually involves shoving you off the track, as they continue on, which may be the reason it happpens so often.

Even worse is when you try to defend against such stupidity by taking a very tight low line heading towards the right hander, and someone jumps inside over the curb, into the grass, and comes back onto the track just in time to use your car the way the average driver uses the walls at So Classic.

So, yes ,there may be no PLACE in which a pass is NOT possible. But there are many circumstances under which a clean pass is not possible.

Quote from Ian.H :In this case, a script kiddie.. only script kiddies compromise web sites like that and do it for one reason ........
Phlos may well be a hacker due to his coding antics.. his compromising of this site however, was nothing more than an act of a retarded script kiddie.

Fair enough.

Quote from Ian.H : There's some infinitely smart people there, _real_ hackers... would they break into a site for fun? give you a serial for app x? not likely...

Not to argue your bigger point, other than you seem to be saying a real hacker would not hack 'for fun', which makes this person what, exactly ?
Note the quotes below - he agrees another approach could have been taken, however, it would have taken the FUN out of it.

I guess the whole "i only did it to prove a point, help the devs, etc etc' angle would appear a lot more reasonable IF the 'announcement post' had stated "Hi, just proving a point, I wanted to show this, now I have, that's all"

But it didn't, the whole notion of noble motivation did not come up until someone else said something about, at which time this person said 'yea, I'm just doing that" (paraphrased).

Quote from earlier in this thread by Phlos:
1. To show Victor (and devs) that he (they) should hire someone to fix security holes before a bad hacker ruin his (their) work by deleting everything or whatever.
2. For fun.

Quote from jayhawk :agree 100%. The sound in the LX6 has improved so that it is, for me anyway, easier to drive. You can hear the engine sailing off into higher RPMs in a corner before the tires will tell you. And that can make or break you in a car like that.

I thought the previous game sounds were more responsive than other games I can compare it to, and I think the new sounds are well improved in that respect.

The overal quality will be improved down the road, but it's more important to have the ability to know what you car is doing at any given moment.

I was impressed by this from the release of the patch, and recently someone asked me at what speed I shifted in a given corner, and I honestly had no idea what to tell him. All I could say was 'when the engine tells me to'.

I'm glad LFS has stayed away from sampled sounds.

I voted for black short sleeve t shirt with color logo, although I do like the web address on the arm of the black / white short sleeve.

I don't like the 'online racing simulator' text, in general. It's a bit nail on the head.

To each his own, but I suspect something is wrong in your settings, driver, etc.

Have you tried working with someone else using one ?
I'd help you troubleshoot through it, if I saw you online.

Have you gone from 270 degrees of rotation to 900 degrees ?
Maybe you need to set it to what you were used to before.

There is a big difference between an intentional wrecker, some guy who's just oblivious to everything that's going on outside his car, and your average 'noob'. Most people, no matter what their skill level, really want to do better.

Unfortunatly, you often get 2, 3, or 4 faster drivers who are intent on beating each other, and when a lesser skilled driver interrupts their race, they get really abusive.

The best thing for the game (your game, in the long run), is to try to help people out, and explain where they are going wrong. It takes patience, and not everyone will listen, so move on if that's the case.

A lot of times, if you spec and watch people you are sure have just ruined your race intentionally, you'll see they really have their hands full, and are trying to deal with their car the best they can.

Everyone was in that position, to some degree, at some point ( whether they care to remember it) and more than likely benefited from some friendly advice.

I doubt very many people improve from being pushed around and shouted at.

I'd rather improve the pool of drivers available to race with, than clean the tracks of anyone who can't match my pb.
