as i have experienced a lot of this in my first 2 seasons of lfscar 360° cup with the GTR cars i can give you only one good advice for the series:

do not play around with penalties: everyone who is crashing under caution needs to be disqualified for the rest of the season. everyone who was passing under yellow and did not give back the places needs to be disqualified for the race. end of story. any other wrecking needs to be resulted in a disqualification of the race and if someone is doing it more then 2 times in a race, disqualify him from the series. (one time can be an accident - needs to be reviewed, two times is a bad driver - maybe needs to be kicked out, more times: wrecker - get rid of him.) and one more thing: do not make the same error as i did and let people compete in the series who were actually bad but were friends or relatives. even if its your father, grandpa or cousin or your best friend driving and he is a wrecker or does not understand the simple rules of oval racing, kick him out.

Its a league not a driving school!

its pretty simple, i needed 2 seasons to learn this lesson and this is the only way to go - at least at the beginning.

if the race was that awful, reward some points for the clean drivers and re-do it with the rule enforcements i've just discribed.

if you are not hard on this, i can assure this will happen:
all clean and safe drivers will pull out of the series because they are fed up with stupid noobs crashing during cautions. and you will either end up with an unfinished season due to lack of drivers or with a total mess every race.

be hard on the penalties and disqualify wreckers as soon as possible from the series!

if you are willing to do so, you will be rewarded with better races and better drivers for sure as people see you are taking it serious.

maybe you cancel the result of this race, reward some points for all clean drivers and get out all wreckers. then redo this race.

maybe we can also talk on rules in the series, as real world rules are not always practical in LFS (mainly caution and restart rules)

its practically not possible in lfs to have clean races when you allow passing only after the finish line when doing restarts. i changed rules in the 360 cup to the simple rule: the track is free as soon as the green flag comes out.
this will help you in preventing the cars from concertinas and brake-checking. the leader does not have that much power this way but driving as a whole is much safer.

when is the next race? i might help you with administration.

as a big critic about this way of selling stuff to people who do not have a clue what they are buying, i have read now a lot of stuff in the net about iRacing.

most of the things i've read really turned me on. and i said: wow, this is nice, that is nice and this is nice too... all the stuff makes pretty much sense

then the price: you pay 150$ for one year and get 60$ in return either to buy new cars or tracks or you can spend it on your next annual 150$. you probably won't need new cars/tracks in the begining as you do not have the right license/level to drive them anyway and the content in the basic package will keep you busy for a time. btw. every extra car and track does not need to be re-licensed after one year. you just own them once you've bought them.

what i do not like is: why didn't they put it the opposite way: buy the basic game for 60$ and you own it, and pay monthly fees for extra cars and tracks?

i think all the people who are willing to pay and play more often will buy exactly the cars/tracks they are going to race. and all the others can stick to the basic two cars and 8 tracks (with their individual configurations)-

but thats marketing and pricing is one of the most important part of it... how can i get most out of the pockets of my customer without losing my attraction to them.

for my part, i will spend those 150$ more likely on a guitar effect pedal and OWN that thing then for something that can be gone from one day to another - which actually can happen pretty easy.

yea i mean its okay if you cannot force them "not" to reset but at least an admin can get a message: car reset not in reseting area
Fischfix

ok after i've tested the latest version:

is it possible to block the pitlane completely? i mean when i give out a "pitlane closed" command, cars only will get a penalty on the pit exit but not when entering pits. i just need the oposite. give out a penalty when someone is entering the pitlane.

i'd love to have a more 3d-ish impression when racing. did you see the thing he does with that ego-shooter game? i cannot find the link now but there is one... was absolutely brilliant...
define reset area on autocross pad: abuse lottery system?
Fischfix
S3 licensed
ok here is a question and i am not sure if its possible:

on the Autocross Arena: define some areas on which a car is allowed to do a reset (space-bar). if someone does not reset his car in that areas, a message is displayed: car reset out of allowed area.

i think this could be handled like the lottery ticket system but i am not sure if "car reset information" is sent through insim.

what do you think guys? and one more thing: who is willing to make that tool for me if its not a big thing? maybe someone can implement this into lfslapper?

Edit: I have seen you take the "stupid" comment back, fair enough

Quote from danowat :Bottom line, if it's something you have the time to use, and will race it alot, it's well worth it IMO, but if you don't have a great deal of time to commit to it, then it's a lot of money for something you aren't going to use much.

well said.

and i apologize for the term "stupid" to all who bought it already. it's your money but i stay to my point: it's not worth it.

as long as i did not see the netcode or hear from anyone using it its as perfect as lfs netcode (and i think lfs does not have the best netcode) its worthless. the best simulation in the world is just a piece of rubbish if the multiplayer netcode (lagspikes, lagissues, ...) suck.

btw. a question. does it have a collision model? did not see anything so far. a racing game without collision model is, well,... useless

but again, its your money, i just state my concern here so everyone who is not sure to buy it, rethinks about it and waits a decent amount of time. and buying it before the actual game is out is not worth it unless you have 156 bucks to spare...

it promises to be the most accurate simulation... as long as i could not read it in any gaming review or any self-test. i take this promise as pure marketing.

as i see your gear in your avatar, i can see you spend a lot of money for gaming, thats okay. i wish i could have 3 22'' monitors and a racing seat but thats just not the average gamer. that brings me to the point: in lfs or rfactor you have a decent amount of useres but how many servers are croweded? not really a lot.

i will promise you for iRacing, you will be disappointed with the pure fact you won't find enough races/fun which make up for the money you've spent.

btw. that cigaret argument is not an argument because its stupid unhealthy and useless. and smoking is so 80ies... (unless you are a rock-star but even then they smoke pot...)

the only argument i've read so far is the 60 dollar "discount" but even then its expensive but at least you have more possibilities.

again, its way overpriced and i promise, everyone who buys it will come back to lfs sooner or later because of the pure fact iRacing never will have a big community like lfs or rFactor which is necessary for racing

some people obviously do not see a relationship between money and value thats all. thats why people buy ringtones and crap like that. and the industry knows young people spend the most of their money for stupid stuff they do not need.

again, i cannot believe people are buying this shit.

we will see how long this company exists or this price-model.

its not about quality vs quantity. break it down to the features it has:

what it promises:
it promises a good grafic (ok, nothing special, every new game does that)
it promises realistic simulation of physics (okay maybe true, but needs to be proven)
it promises a huge worldwide community (maybe in the future but at the start? i don't think so)

ok now the negative things
it has 2 cars and 7 tracks (i do not know any racing game on the market with that few cars/tracks)
it costs 3 times the amount a normal game costs if you calculate it for 1 year. an average game is about 3 years up to date, so you can say it costs 9 times the amount of an other racing game.

conclusion:
it offers great physics and what everyone else is offering with less cars and tracks like every other game and 9 times the price compared to other games. (calculated on 3 years use)

now give me one reason why this should be a good or reasonable offer

wow... over 100 euro for one!!! year.

and ALL YOU GET IS 2 CARS AND 7 TRACKS (4 ovals and 3 racetracks). EVERYTHING ELSE COSTS EXTRA!!!

who is so stupid to pay that much for a single game in beta status with no cars and no tracks? thats almost double/three times the price you pay for a normal game with no monthly costs and no extra costs with 10 times the cars and tracks.

really, this game is way overpriced. no game in the world is worth 100 euro a year not even if it has the best physics you can imagine. thats just insane...
if you want more cars/tracks play rFactor.

i cannot believe people are really buying this shit

ok i explain it a bit closer:

1) fcy means full course yellow or caution, which is possible already with the yellow flag button but i forgot to write: add an ai driver as pacecar with the command /ai

i want to use an ai driver as pacecar, as it is reliable and does not make errors. i had lots of races in the past with human pacecar drivers and to be honest, a lot of problems occurred this way, as humans make errors or which is the biggest problem: do not show up for a league race.

so now 5) 6) 7) make more sense
with "restart" i do not mean restart of the race from the grid but a rolling start the pacecar goes to the pits and a green flag is displayed at the same moment the pacecar crosses pit entrance

so actually all i would need is a new button: "send pacecar out", "send pacecar in" (maybe "spec pacecar") and "green flag"

is it possible to have another button for the admin like: "start safetycar period" in which
1) a fcy is displayed
2) pits are closed until the leader is behind the pacecar (can also be admin triggered)
3) open pits
4) give out "green next time by" command (again admin triggered)
5) gives a stop and go penalty to the ai pacecar (so it goes to pitroad next time)
6) restarts the race after a random period of time after the pacecar crosses pit entrance
7) send pacecar to spectate

is lfs lapper able to:

detect if there was a crash (spin of a car) on track and give out (is possible with spin detection)
1) a auto-message or button somewhere on the low right of screen for everyone containing the name of the car which crashed (is possible as i could see in the config)
2) give out the command "/ai SAFETYCAR" (did not find it, is this possible. i think so its just a normal lfs-command, "/ai" right?)
3) check if everyone is below a certain speed or better if everyone is running with pitlimiter after X seconds after a crash? and if one is not using pit-limiter by that time give out a warning and after X+Y seconds give out a drive through penalty for that driver (did not find that, is this possible?)... maybe this could be solved with something similar to the "too slow detection" in the oposite way or maybe with something like the "acceleration detection" just with "max-top speed".... needs to be admin triggered or automated after a certain command is given out

is it possible to have the same with restriction also for tires? like if i have a R2 tire restriction on this track (everyone MUST use R2 tires), lapper checks the cars if they have wrong tires when exiting pits and also give out penalties when a car is changing to wrong tires during a race

can it give out a msg to an admin if a car is resets (space bar) when the server allows resetting?

i play this game now since 2005 and all i can say is, this bug has been mentioned and discussed since then.

in the last 3 years there were many bugs-fixes and updates to the game but this MAJOR bug has not been fixed. i only see two real reason why:
1)´its not possible to fix this bug due to the way of lfs is calculating collision at the moment. this will mean, the collision model has to be rewritten and i do not see this is going to happen until S3 is going to happen (which will not happen in the next 5 years) as we are still in S2 alpha!

2) the devs did miss this bug-report for the past 3 years OR did not think this is important to the community the past 3 years

if someone has an other idea why this bug still exists please post, i do not really have another reason for it

i use a firewall as well... and i did not need to configuer. the first time you start the software, the firewall pops up, asks if you want to block it or not... if you get lfs to run, then this should not be a problem.. but
its your decision how you want to stream

i'd go for the easiest way, and use a program which is already in use rather then trying to invent the wheel for new

Quote from AndroidXP :@Fischfix:
Not saying that the devs don't plan to at some point make more attractive content for the American market (ovals of all kinds and sizes, basically), but I think that right now the simulation aspect is simply not complete enough to warrant pushes in that direction. It would be like implementing banger racing without damage modelling, or rally without a detailed surface simulation.

What you do right now on the oval might be fun and might take skill in its own way, but from my knowledge about oval racing (which is arguably very little), it has not much to do with actual oval racing techniques, mainly due to the simplified aero model. For an oval you could probably get away with a worse tyre simulation than now, but the aero is absolutely crucial.

So what I'm saying is, concentrate on fixing the basics, and do it well. Then implement stuff, and implement it properly. Having everything simulated half-assed will always leave you in second place.

Then again, it's not like our ramblings have any influence on the devs' plan anyway, so whatever.

true, drafting at the moment has not much to do what drafting should be like. (aero-push/drag) also what i miss, and this is imo the most important thing: when you have a damaged front wing, you should not be able to go the same speed as someone without damage. and of course there are tons of improvements to suggest and make/implement into the game before we really need another BIG oval.
but what could be implemented with the actual "aero model" (which is none) would be a short-track like bristol or martinsville as drafting does not play a big role there if at all... but... thats off topic and suggested a quadrizillion times and flamed a quadrizillion times

Quote from AndroidXP :Tbh, adding a late model would probably do the least to "keep up" with iRacing, considering how LFS is not really targeting the American market. New cars in general (would now) do IMO very little as long as they're based on the same physics, unless maybe if they fill out a huge gap.

Better tyre physics, better damage- and aero modelling (especially important for oval racing), more- and more characteristic tracks (heck, maybe a more interesting oval for you roundabout nuts )... that is what would help LFS push forward.
Tracks for longevity, physics for showing who's the boss

agree 100% with you but why not targeting the american market?

way too expensive... i will never pay monthly fees for a game unless i can earn money with it

13$ a month is just ridiculous... although i hope lfs will need to improve to keep up to date like get some of similar content like: late model cars, sprint cars and stuff like that

but that has been discussed for ages now

funny, i did not need to setup a router or anything using sopcast... at the moment i am in budapest in a hotel via wireless lan, and am using it. last month i was in berlin and used it and i was in italy on a camping lot and used it without any problem.

the use is so easy: you get a link like: sop://blablabalbla click on it, the application opens up and streams the video stream, which is nothing else then a mms stream.

i am not sure on this but i think you even can use mediaplayer to open those streams.

and the bigest advantage is, you do not have to worry about upload, as the sopcast system is taking the load for distribution to multiple clients...

if i do 360° cup broadcasts, this is probably the way i will go
