Quote from danowat :I just would have thought people would have got the message after so many years, no amount of discussion will change anything, Scawen has a way of working that, while unarthodox, works very well for him, and I doubt that'll change.

Talk about it till you are all blue in the face, it ain't gonna change jack.

It might work well for him, but it's probably another thing for his finances, especially on the long term. Do you honestly think that LFS can go on forever, at this rhythm of development, and be profitable until the end of time? At some point, either people will lose interest (because it'll be so outdated on certain aspects, i.e. graphics), or it won't be profitable enough for them, which hopefully might bring them to realize that they work too slowly to keep the interest and expectation up.

Why do you think people such as Tweaker have left these boards and have 'lfs is dead' in their signatures?

Quote from danowat :Bottomline, it (LFS) is what it is, it has been the same for many years, and is not going to change.

They don't owe anyone anything, all we have ever paid for is S2 in the state it was when we paid for it, anything on top of that is a bonus.

People can bleat on till they are blue in the face about lack of development, lack of communication, but the fact is, thats the way it is.

It boils down to like it, or lump it, play it, don't play, no one really cares if joe bloggs is bored, or wants X or Y, play it till you are bored, then go do something else, LFS is, and always will carry on the same no matter who does or doesn't play it any more.

Please, enough with the 'you paid, now shut up' thing. Yes, we've all paid, and I do agree that it doesn't give us a right to ask for anything, but it doesn't mean we can't talk about things we think are wrong.

Personally, I'm merely expression my feelings about this game, and hope that eventually Scavier hear what a lot of people have been saying for a lot of time and change their weird working methods.

Do the errors appear in other 3D programs beside LFS? If so I'd say it's probably a dead graphic card, you should try using an old one laying around somewhere (most people do have that)

I think that Hank was just saying that Americans shouldn't need to be explained why racism is wrong, seeing that slavery and racism are so present in the history of their country. You would indeed believe that people whose ancestors might have been slaves or slavers would know a great deal about the errors of the past; you'd think it's the kind of thing they'd be well explained at school.

Besides, all this is highly irrelevant. I live in a country that has never known slavery, but that doesn't stop me understanding the problems behind it and racism.

Another problem is that people actually stop playing between patches. You hear a lot of: "I'm waiting for the next patch to play again". That problem would mostly be avoided if patches were closer to each other, and be soothed even more if we knew how the progress was going. Scavier kind of fails at creating expectation.

Look at other online games with patched content. There are quite a lot of them on the market (most of them mmorpgs). Do people actually stop playing waiting for the next patch? No, they don't, because have enough content to be kept busy, and they know mostly what will be in the next patch, whether it be via patch notes, or communication with admins.

I'd say LFS isn't healthy, at best. The 'one patch per six months' thing can only get LFS so far. Many well known and brilliant people who were old timers and participated a lot in these forums left, and it's no wonder.

I think LFS only 'survives' because nobody has yet tried to specifically make something better than it. If a corp. or a good team of 20 people or so decided to look at LFS, and say: "Okay boys, this is what we're up against, let's beat it", it would be quite easy for them.

The reason why LFS is still doing so well is because it's in a branch of the gaming market which doesn't attract so many people in the first place, which is why big and well known game makers don't try to best it: it wouldn't be financially good.

I've known for a long time now that Scavier will not budge of their three-man team philosophy, but honestly, I don't understand it. Eventually, at this rythm, I think people will get bored of the old and crappy graphics, and bored of the lack of evolution. When that time comes, Scavier will either have to wake up or let LFS go.

/rant on

And frankly, what pisses me off the most is that Scavier don't seem to give a SHIT about their game anymore. I know they've never liked to give out info, or that they're never been that much involved on the forums, but seriously, I think Scawen posts like once a week nowadays. For a lot of people, me included, involvment from the developers is very important, and while they may be working without our knowledge, the kind of project LFS is cannot be viable without some kind of connection between the community and the very small team of devs. I've always been pissed that Eric never posts on the forums, I've always been pissed that inbetween patches we have no clue what the hell is going on, that we can only guess what's happening. How do we know they're even working? How hard can it be to post some regular updated about who's working on what, and how the progress is going? Probably not that hard.

And if they can't do it themselves, why not give the job to a trusted moderator, or a friend of them, that could create a weekly, or even daily, link between the devs and the community?

Grr...

It is time that S2 goes final. Scawen has said mostly revealed what needs to be done for it to become a reality, well, let it be so. I hope the next patch is full of these changes toward S2 final, and not only a feeble patch adding the Sirocco and a few little features to hide the emptiness. However, most of all, I would like more coommuunniicattion! Scavier don't work fast, well, so be it. It can't be easy to fundamentally change your working methods. However, the current lack of communication cannot be excused by any degree of laziness.

Those things you guy are making him try are all stuff that would affect other programs, especially those more resource hungry than LFS, and there are quite a lot.

What you need to look for is something that only affects LFS, and that's either the LFS installation that is somehow wrong, or a very specific thing on your computer that only LFS uses, or uses enough, that would cause problems to LFS only.

Quote from wheel4hummer :That's just plain silly, and an invalid argument. If that were a valid argument, then wouldn't that also make the argument that the image African Americans project onto themselves is a bunch of bank robbing rapists? Since I don't agree with that argument, I find it conflicting and impossible to agree with your argument.

Do you know many black or multiracial people? Many Arabs or Asians? Personally, I don't, which is why I try to be as neutral as I can. I live in a mostly white only suburb of a very cosmopolitan city, but city I don't work there or spend that much time altogether downtown, pretty much every one I know and see is white.

Therefore, what's the only way for me to judge the Arabs, Asians, or blacks? Through what other people say, which is to say, the media, and what people say on the internet. It's hard to stay neutral, and I think I can safely say that the medias didn't make a racist out of me.

There are other people, however - people that can be influenced more easily than me - which believe what the media say, or what their leaders say, and they, as a community, end up generally hating a country.

The longer a leader stays in function, the harder the feeling about his country will be when he'll leave office. People all around the world hated Bush, and thus the USA. After 8 years of being fed horrid news and ideas about Bush, they consequently hate the USA as much. That's also why the feeling of hope is consequently as great concerning Obama.

Obviously some white supremacists and what-not feel very bad about a multiracial man (proclaimed black by the media) gaining power of one of the world's most powerful country, but generally the opinion about Obama is good.

Quote from Sir moi 407 :While I totaly agree with you I don't think that "being atheist" can be an argument to be elected...
And I disagree with this:

Saying to an interviewver that you are christian, muslmin or atheist if he asks you isn't a problem...
The problem is when you insist about what you believe and want everybody to know you are religious or atheist or whathever

I agree that a candidate can hardly say, for instance at a debate, "I'm of X religion, vote for me". Just like Obama didn't say "I'm black, vote for me". It just happens by itself, it's the kind of argument that, time helping, will win a candidate the election. It's sad to say, but if Obama had been white, and had stood with the exact same arguments, he would have had a much harder time (although I believe he would still have passed, being younger). I believe that at some point in time, atheism will be the same kind of thing. Although unsaid, it will gain or lose a candidate an election.

Now, going back to the religion thing, if the candidate says at any point in his campaign that he is of X religion, he automatically turns against himself a certain part of the population.

Now, depending on where you are, and depending what religion affiliation you have, the proportion of people to be pissed off will be different. In the United States, if anybody has any reason at all, no matter how far-fetched it is, to believe that a candidate is not Christian, he's going to lose votes, no matter what. That's because there are some stupid Americans who will believe whatever they are told and actually believe that he's not Christian. For example, if they're told he's a Muslim, they will not vote for him. Not because they don't agree with the values the Muslim religion stands for, but simply because he's a Muslim. It's how basic it can be.

And this is why it was a part of the Republican's campaign to undermine Barack Obama by saying he was a Muslim; because they knew it would convince some people that he really is, and they would consequently not vote for him. The GOP in this campaign never tried to undermine the values of the Muslim religion, they don't need to, it already is prejudiced in the American population.

People can't see an atheist president in the US just like the couldn't see a black president 40 years ago. It is bound to happen, for the greater good.

We in Quebec have had for the last 10 years a great debate about whether religious institutions and governmental institutions should be separate or not. Personally I believe any form of religion should be kept at home. It should not be in school, and it should not be a subject in any political matters. That also means that I don't give a eff what religion people have. For instance, I have no idea what by provincial prime minister's religion is, or even if he has one (though I presume he does).

The dangerous thing about all this is that at some point a politician will come up, shout everywhere that he's atheist and be elected that way. That's hardly better than proclaiming himself religious. The fact is that he shouldn't say he's atheist, he should say nothing at all. When asked 'of what religious affiliation are you?', he should answer 'that's none of your business, kthxbai'. The problem right now is that if you answer that, you're automatically considered atheist.

I must agree, it doesn't seem very useful. Does a stable inverted pendulum have an extrinsic function nobody is aware of (or at least my non-mechanically inclined mind)?

I think the next step is trying to build a black hole.

I must say the drawing is weird. I'm do not possess an engineering degree nor am I mechanically inclined (:tilt, and frankly I don't know what's an inverted pendulum, but I guess that if the 'physics' has said that it can't be done, maybe it can't be done.

However, I would recommend using rope like the cowboys used.

If I understand the topmost two drawings, the pendulum kind of leans on the sphere shaped thing to stay balanced, is this correct? :/

Nice bullshit story, those hybrids are, aye? I mean, everybody that don't know how they're made are all like "zomg, green car, I'm friendly to the environment driving this!", but when you look at the way they're made, and see that they're not so good energy wise, you realize it's bullshit.

I wonder how long it will be before the general opinion becomes bad towards hybrids and embraces a new and truly clean technology?

I understand the PR from Ford, though. The fusion is one of the 'not so bad cars' they're making and having a hybrid of that is certainly a good idea for them. It probably won't save them, though.

On a relatively close subject, I heard GM uses like 3 billion USD per month of their cash bank and that in a few months they're be out of order

Clearly, LFS can easily run at max settings with a computer half as good as what you have. Even if there were some other processes taking up some power, it wouldn't be so bad. The fact that it only happens in LFS probably means that it's either something in your LFS installation, or something in your system that's incompatible in some way with LFS, though I couldn't see what.

That's a good problem for Scawen

A reporter from CBC interviewed a couple of red-necks from deep into Missouri a few weeks before the election and all they had to say was pretty much this:

"We've been told he's a secret Muslim.";

"He's probably a terrist.";

"This is country-side, this is not the city, you can't expect people in the country-side to vote like people in the city do."

And that stuck me, why can't the people in the country-side vote like the folks in the city? They didn't have any argument to support this thesis, it was just a FACT that if you're in the country-side, you don't vote like you do in the city. I usually don't like to call people ignorant or plainly stupid, but clearly those red-necks are.

I personally blame Fox News.

Oh, and you will see a lot of people in a year or so complaining that there hasn't been enough change. Well, he's not a god, he's just a man. With the current state of that country, there's no way it'll be the same as it was, say, 10 years ago, even after 4 or 8 years. That will be the republican's main argument: he promised change, there hasn't been enough. Well, there's only so much a man can do if the previous gov. screwed up so much the country.
