Upgrading - Need Suggestions

Okay, so. My computer badly needs an upgrade! The time has come for me to look up for some parts. Here's what I've currently got (don't laugh):

- CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+
- Mobo: MSI K8 Neo4
- 1GB RAM (I think DDR, should check to be sure)
- GPU: ATI Radeon x1950 pro
- A crappy, noisy tower
- Some crappy, slow and small HDDs

I plan on changing most of that stuff. Here's what I've mostly set my mind upon for now:

- CPU: Intel Core i7 920 (Very good performance, good reviews, nicely priced for the performance).
- Mobo: Asus P6T (LGA1366 socket for the CPU, good reviews, supports a truckload of DDR3 RAM).
- 4GB RAM DDR3 (basically whatever will have the best reviews when I buy).
- 2X Hitachi 7K1000.B 1TB (Good price/size ratio, good reviews)

I'm mostly settled for these things unless I find better things somewhere, somehow (open to suggestions)

Now, for the other stuff. First of all, I'm looking for a good tower (hard to find). Here's what I'm looking for:

- Quiet
- Roomy enough for the stuff above
- Not stupidly conceived
- Good cooling capability
- Preferably includes a 700W+ PSU
- Preferably something that doesn't have gamer bling, I don't care about seeing my fans turn
- Reasonably priced, it doesn't need to be in carbon fiber (yes, it exists)!

If you have any suggestions, go ahead please.

Now, the last thing that I'm unsure about is the GPU. The ATI Radeon x1950 pro that I have right now isn't very old (1 year or so) and not bad at all. The only problem that I have with it is that it's not DX10. It's not been a big deal for me so far, as most games that came out in DX10 were still reasonably good looking in DX9, and that anyway most of them didn't interest me much. However, maybe it would be the time to upgrade? I don't really know. I must say more graphical power would be good. However, there's something else I could do that would probably be much cheaper.

Two options:

1. Buy a brand new Dx10 GPU (haven't started looking)
2. Buy another x1950 pro and use two of them in crossfire (which should be much better, and much cheaper)

Again, I'm open to suggestions!

Quote from Vain :Up to now no rationally conclusive proof has been thought of to prove the existance or non-existance of any sort of god. Thus agnosticism is a given for any rationally thinking person. For those people the question merely is wether one tends towards theism ("I believe there is a god but I don't know exactly.") or atheism ("I don't think there is a god, but I can't rule out the possibility").
So when people answer that they're agnostic to the question wether they believe in god I think those people missed the question. Agnosticism is the right answer when you're asked wether you'd engage in sensful discussion or rather burn somebody on the stake if he didn't agree with you on your religious views.

On topic, I'm an atheist. Though of course and as discussed above, I have no proof for my opinion and am thus also agnostic.

P.S.: And something else:No one's trying to convert you. We're just exchanging opinions to gain of knowledge and understanding.

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=1112217#post1112217

Indeed, one defines himself as being agnostic not because he believes or not in the existence of any gods, but rather because he doubts (or cannot affirm his position with absolute certainty) about his position. It does not matter if one tends to believe or disbelieve the existence of any gods, the fact is that if he isn't sure, he's agnostic by definition. As I stated in my post earlier, agnosticism can apply to both theists and atheists.

I'm an agnostic atheist

Most people don't know that agnosticism is in fact compatible with both atheism and theism. Atheism is the absence of belief in any gods, while theism is the opposite. Agnosticism means that a person claims not to have the knowledge of the existence or non-existence of any gods. Therefore, you can indeed be:

- Agnostic Theist: You believe in a god(s), but claim not to know for sure;
- Agnostic Atheist: You don't believe in any god, but claim not to know for sure;
- Theist: You believe in a god(s), and deny any doubt concerning the existence of the said god(s);
- Atheist: You don't believe in any god(s), and deny any doubt concerning the non-existence of the said god(s).

Over the years, my views on the matter changed as my knowledge of the subject increased, and I now like to refer to myself as an agnostic atheist. My common sense would tend to make me deny the existence of any gods, but since my common sense also tells me that I cannot be sure and that it would not be wise to claim with certitude the non-existence of any gods, I continue to ponder endlessly (and I don't believe my position will change, ever).

I'm sorry folks, but it's not been 22 1/3 years already. We still have quite a lot of mourning to do until we can joke about Space Bat's death.

Quote from Gerdoner :Obviously I skin too much, even if I delete all unnecessary skins every 3 months, I still have like 50 FZR skins in the viewer

I must say, you should follow john5200's advise: stop naming your skins all weird! For example: even with arrows, if you have 50 skins, you might need to go through 30 skins before you reach the one you wanted. I see hardly how this is supposed to be an improvement. What I see here is that your skins are named so bizarrely that you don't remember what a particular skin is, and you therefore need to try each and every one of them to recall what that skin was.

I have to stand in awe of Space Bat's tremendous achievement. I personally believe that Space Bat has survived the experience (under one form or another), and will enlighten us with it's incredible power.

Rejoice, for the time of the Space Bat has come! :drink:

Personally, I prefer to read poetry, just like books. I find it leaves more space for interpretation, and it's easier to skips lines. Yes, skipping lines is fine; the reader has the right to do so.

I really fail at poetry. I had to try it because my french teacher in college wanted us to (had to read it in front of the class, just how awful is that). I prefer reading other people's work. The thing I prefer, though, is when it's in the form of music. I've always found interesting the creation of lyrics. You can ponder a lot over lyrics of a song, especially when you ask yourself how the writer came to these words. Sometimes they don't even mean anything, but are instead designed to sound better (Yes - Close to the Edge :P).

Not really necessary. I think people mainly use the viewer when they're skinning, not to actually view skins (they tend to do the latter in LFS itself, at the time of choosing a skin). For that reason, people who use the viewer will tend to select a skin by choosing a skin by name, thus will not try to get to it by clicking 10 times on an arrow. Also, I think it's fair to assume that most people only have the skins they named themselves because the others are in the skins_x folder. And they don't name their skins weird name, for the sole purpose of not being lost with their own skins, it's not that hard!

Also, when skinning, you don't switch between different skins regularly, so the arrows wouldn't be useful. The only way I would see the arrows be useful would be if you needed to switch between two skins named almost the same thing (so you can click once to get back and forth) if you're copying a skin to another. However, doing that probably implies that the two skins are on different cars, so you wouldn't be able to switch between them anyway.

It's called hopping on the band wagon, and although I still wish the best for BMW, I must agree that I'd rather see Brawn do good, then, say, Ferrari or Toyota.

There are other reasons for that then just because they're quick at the moment. First, they have two good drivers who've failed to prove what they're capable of so far, for a number of reasons. Barrichello has mostly only been Schumacher's wing man and we know for a fact that he's been told to step down at least once, even though he could have won. Button has never actually been very successful, but in his case we could just blame the crappy cars he's been in. So a lot of people wish them good. As for the team itself, I think people like Brawn simply because it's Brawn, and he's been successful at some point in the past in the world of F1. A bit like Jordan, I liked Jordan too! Also the lack of ties with a major car constructor makes the success even more valuable.

"You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor"

The tenth commandment. Which most people don't follow, probably including a lot of people who are christian. You could easily include in this stuff that belong to other people than your neighbor. Since the internet wasn't invented back then, coveting other people's good on the internet isn't really forbidden in there, but I guess if we were to create a new list, it would be included in this one. The thing is, though, as George Carlin has put it, coveting other people's good is what keeps the economy running. If you don't know if other people have such thing, the only reason to buy something would be because you really need it, which you sometimes don't.

You can't really stop people bragging. It's not illegal, and you won't ever get people to stop it. Bragging under all its forms is something relatively interesting to be involved with on a forum where you don't personally know most people. For instance, in the off topic section, there are numerous topics about stuff like 'Post your [something you have]'. I don't see what's wrong about that, especially considering it's the off topic section. It's just something to share stuff you have with others, and yes it's bragging, though I don't see what's wrong with that. Now, if people boast in other various sections of these forums, it's their problem and there's nothing anybody can do about it, it's just in their character.

You know what? Okay, let's just say you paid for S2 final. I'm not exactly sure myself if one pays for the game as is or for the final version of a stage, but whatever. Whatever you paid for, it doesn't matter. Whether you paid for the game as it was when you bought it and you receive the updates for free, or whether you paid for S2 final, it doesn't change the fact that whatever any of us here says won't make things go faster.

We all paid for S2. There was no guaranteed date of release, and it would have been stupid for Scavier to even hint at one. See what happens when something gets postponed; people whine and moan; "zomg, when zizitready?!???111". Besides, do all the moaners think that the VWS wasn't postponed for a good reason? Do they think that it's just Scawen playing with us? No, it wasn't ready. Would they have like to have an unstable, or faulty in some kind of way version of LFS?

It'll be released when it's ready. Not before. Just wait. And the money you paid for it has nothing whatsoever to do with it.

This is just awful. It feels just like a corporation whose CEO would decide to change a policy, which both the employees and the customers would find stupid. The best way to solve the problem is to fire the CEO and find someone who agrees with the rest ^^

Not gonna happen. The MRT is a real car, and I think Scavier intend to keep every real-life cars in the game as realistic as possible. To put off-road tires on the MRT would mean changing the suspension, and that's not something that was done on the real car; therefore don't expect to see it here!

Moaning is not avoidable. When you sell a product, you can't hope to satisfy everyone. Scavier's secretive manners probably don't help them in that optic, but that's their problem, as they seem comfortable ignoring the moaning (which is the good thing to do). Don't go believing that LFS is the only product that gets moaned about. Every product EVER sold has made some people unhappy in different ways. Some people moan if there's a hiatus; most people don't. That's a fact of life!

Keep this in mind, though: LFS is relatively lucky considering that the people it attracts are probably less prone to moaning than the average video-game player. The moaning on LFS forums is quite low. Basically, people will only get pissed off if something's been announced and delayed, or if there's too much time in their opinion inbetween patches.

Welcome to the world of the patch video-game

p.s. Scavier need to hire a couple of blue posters; they make things better!

Maybe the god of the games don't want you to hurt yourself by losing at WCII? I haven't played it in years, but IIRC, this thing was bloody impossible to beat (okay, maybe I failed back then :tilt.

Besides, I like the heros in WCIII, it adds something to the game. Go pally go!

My bet is just that WCII is way too old to be installed on 7.

Quote from TagForce :If I was McLaren I would definitely make it happen if it was in my power. Simply only race as long as you have a chance of winning the race. As soon as it seems it's not going to happen pack it up and go home.

Well, there's still the constructors championship. But, to be honest... what percentage of F1 fans really give a damn about the constructors championship? I don't, and I suspect a lot of other people don't care either. The fact is, though, that the constructors champ will probably still be disputed in the last few races, while the racers' champ will already be settled.

Intrepid posted this in the other F1 thread:

Quote from Intrepid :Imagine this scenario - 2 races left, two drivers (Driver A and Driver B) tied 'for points'. but Driver A has 3 races win more than Driver B. You're robbed of a grand stand finish!

Hey, at least we avoided the medals. How lame would that have been! My first reaction to this was: "Ok... so?" I don't get why this is supposed to be good.

The problem I see with this new system is that a racer could basically win, say, 10 races, then DNF all the others and still win the championship over someone who'd have won less races, but successfully finished all of them. Agreed, this is probably not gonna happen, but still, if it did, it would basically reward unreliabilty of the car over constant performance. This is a 17 long champ (or so), you need to reward those who are constantly good throughout the season.

Heh, Tag beat me to it

Quote :It can all be over after half the races.

Yes. Oh, that would be so silly. But, hey, if that happens, it would be their problem, and the subsequent drop in ratings would make them cry.
