If you take a look at LfS' carpark, it all makes sense: 2 roadcars, representing the base tin-tops and the FBMW, representing the base open-wheeler... The beginner cars of both worlds featured in the demo - the introduction - to LfS...

Clear now?

Quote from lerts :i set brakes to full force so if i overpush it skids, i do it because if irl i need to emergency brake i have the habit of the modulation needed for a real car

im pretty sure real racers do the same than me, they set it so they lock the brakes if they over push the pedal

what do you know about this?

Not comparable at all... RL and computer pedals work completely different unless you have an expensive pedal set, as sinbad said...

In RL, the brake rotor and pad have a specific stopping force, and it's not about how far the driver pushes the pedal, but how hard - that pressure (modified by a booster) is then used to press the pads onto the rotor... That's the reason you hear commentators only saying "the driver is pressing the pedal with about 70 kg (not really a pressure measurement, I know) every corner", not "he pushed the pedal right to the firewall there"...

In a sim, we're adjusting braking pressure in the setup... Nuff said...

Quote from Napalm Candy :Less tyre temperatures, less rise, down faster and more wear.

Actually it should be heating faster (spinning tyres should have temperatures shooting up like crazy), cooling down A LOT faster on the tread, a bit slower to transfer the heat to the core (the difference between tread and core is 1-2° C, it should be more detached from one another), but the wear seems reasonable as it is now...

Ram's and Dana's lighting is wrong... So much that it sticks out and isn't pleasant to look at...
Brandons is ... well, Brandons...
Furiously-Fast's pic is neither snow nor ice-racing, so that's out too...
Anathema's pic has no driver in it... I suspect people still aren't looking at the full resolution picture to again vote for a flawed picture...
lukasauno and Quicksilver made the only good pictures in accordance with the theme, and QS' one captures racing better than lukasauno's more drift-y one, so QS got my vote this time...

Quote from The Moose :Shifting up is modelled perfectly. It's all about timing. You dont need to clutch at all, just lift and shift at the right revs. I can do it 99% of the time. I do miss one occasionally under pressure.

He's actually right about preloading the shifter... Try it out: Hold the lever to shift up, THEN step off the throttle... No matter how long you wait, it won't shift until you've let go of the shifter and pulled it again...

Something new, another thread inspired me to this: Without camber and caster, there's still quite some self-aligning torque, and I don't have centering spring enabled... I don't know if weight transfer causes enough camber to have an effect on this, but what worried me more was when you steer enough there actually is negative SAT... I was under the impression a car could never do that, steering MORE by itself...

Quote from BlueFlame :ABS = Anti-lock Braking System, so therefore with it's use it helps you to stop more quickly than without ABS. If your car stops faster than anothers car the chances of your car being stopped before the collision are way higher than the others car. Of course you cannot steer when your wheels are locked and yes, people who have passed their test don't realise this either. At a low speed it's impossible to lock your brakes unless the surface is slippery or unless you pull the handbrake in which all of the braking is put to the rear wheels, if you halfed that force and put it on the front aswell as the back you wouldn't lock up in the same way. What you are saying isn't correct, ABS is to get you to stop BEFORE you have to divert your course, any idiot would divert whilst braking, it's just common sense but ABS is there so you are able to slow down before you even need to avoid but truthfully steering a car under ABS than locked wheels is obviously going to be safer and easier.

Rubbish, I suggest informing yourself before you (once again) make a fool of yourself... ABS NEVER was intended to provide better braking, it had and still has only one purpose: to give you the ability to steer while fully on the brakes... Modern ABS-systems are very sophisticated and may provide a lesser braking distance to the average driver's braking skill, but they still don't deviate from their original purpose...

Quote from Rudy van Buren :Do you think the dev / testers are happy with this time it gets released,
everybody would have liked to see it getting releasd on the aim mid nov.
but aslong as there are bugs in it what need to be fixed what should the do?
give you as it is at that point and get tons and tons of complainings about ppl who found things dont work,
or grab the problems with both hands and try to fix it as fast as the can?
as you would know how many updates we got in 1 week to test you would know how hard there working on it behind the scenes.

So please just stop all those comments i know its frustrating as you looking forward to it, but sometimes things need to be fixed before its just ready for the big deal.

Pff, don't be such a crybaby when we take the mickey out of somebody who really deserves it... I personally have no sympathy whatsoever with a developer that gives his paying customers the middle finger and disappears for half a year only to reemerge crawling into a company's ass and shit on his customers again for 2 further years...

Quote from Elevant :Wow. For some reason I couldn´t do it before
Now works fine. Maybe because i´m in the home made pedal club...

As you get no feedback through the pedals or your bottom, it is very hard to hold the clutch at the biting point, so you either stall, bog down the engine or spin the wheels instead...

Quote from J.B. :Wrong, in both series I know of where ABS was used (DTM and F1), the laptimes came down thanks to ABS allowing deeper, harder braking. Your statement may be true for slower Roadcar ABS but I can't say for sure what the current state of development is for typical roadcar ABS.

An experienced driver can stop a car faster in a straight line than an older ABS-systems can.

Can we agree on this rule?

Quote from Kid222 :I have almost the same problem here. Textures are randomly going wild, horizon and areas surrounding the track are spammed with skin textures and numberplate text from random cars and HUD text looks similar to your screen. But i don't think this is Z8 bug, since on my PC it started in november, when i bought new computer, so i think it's graphics card related problem. Can't reproduce it now, since it's very random, sometimes it never happens and sometimes it pops in after few(more) minutes.

EDIT: example from 24th november Clicky Not that bad here, got also few worse.

Maybe your graphics card memory running out? I *think* that was the problem when it was reported back when Scawen changed the rendering... When it happens again, take a look in the options and see how much VRAM LfS is using at that moment...

Quote from Gills4life :Well I didn't because I had never really shown much interest in nkpro until seeing some previews of 1.03 and hearing of the abarth and hillclimb stage allegedly in the works. <insert lols here>

It is not exactly a well publicised sim is it?

No, it just happened before your time (here)... In short: ASS and others built a big hype about nKPro, the release was a bug-ridden POS and Kunos, the oh-so-sensitive programer, decided it was best to just disappear for half a year - especially when his website said (and still says!) that licences would be valid for a year... 1.03 is in the works for over a year now, which promises to be what 1.00 always should have been - just 3 years too late...

Quote from SamH :Well.. perhaps people will wait until they read what ASS say about it, and decide then.

Oh.. wait.. they did that once before and STILL got first degree burns up to the shoulder, didn't they?

Actually, ASS was the main fuel of the hype... One reason I stopped reading them...

Quote from The Moose :I believe so.(well, he's obviously got the foundations for it on the go) I cant see it arriving for a very long time though. Lets hope he's learned his lessons on how to support a sim properly this time round.

I can't see anyone buying from him again - he lost all his credibility over this, not even technical supremacy will save him from failing economically...

Quote from polepositiondriver :The only thing I didn't like about the g25 is that the uncovered section of the steering wheel reminds me of some cheaper car steering wheels.

http://www.momo.it/images/cont ... STEERING_WHEEL_MOD_80.jpg

Not that cheap, ey?

Anyway, if your budget allows it, wait for the GT3 RS wheel (just for the pedals)... If you can't wait, the G25 is probably your best bet - I've never had any problems with it, hugely satisfied...

Quote from Blakey. :update

just watched DrDrivers video on Blackwood
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QXK7mysi-xw

unfortunately i havent gotten into custom setups yet, sticking with stock however unwise that may be.

Hopefully i'll stumble across a decent guide on the basics of setup's... at the moments i get the most stupid errors ever "cannot change profile [DEFAULT] but i simply can't fint a "new setup" button, or anything to that effect

Right below the list of setups on the right part on your screen there's a button labeled "new"... Try it...

Quote from titanLS :With a mentality like this, you're clearly not the in demographic iRacing is looking for in the first place...

Anyway, the real reason I came here to post tonight was to show these, which may put to bed some of the misconceptions that iRacing doesn't look any good...

Obviously I've added some shallow depth of field but other than the blur these are straight screenshots. Good stuff.

Haha, good one... Touching up a screenshot of Blackwood's start/finish-straight with DOF made everyone think they had a photo of Le Mans on their monitors... I also wouldn't call it shallow, there is quite a bit of it in your pics... Your pictures have the same credibility to showcase iRacing's graphics as the DiRT2 ones for their game...
