Or does he mean 1000BC-400AD? To be honest if it is 400BC, Rome wasn't much of an 'empire' then. Nor were there vikings then either, but I guess that's not the point in the game

I have no name suggestion right now. Partly because I know too little. Is it management or military or some other biased?

If you think I switch from Rome: Total War (RTR mod), it better be damn good.

You would have to get a used car then (production ended in late '90s?). Or do you need to shoot me again?

Quote from Racer X NZ :Ha - another bodykitted VW beetle displaying the traditional 'come to jesus' oversteer that makes these things so much fun to push on the road.

Or even better, in the wet ........... :ambulance

They're dangerous and how anything that behaves just like a clock pendulum can be called a sports car escapes me completely.
...

The new Porsches shouldn't handle like old RWD 911. Besides the RS is said to be a joy to ride (wasn't GT3RS 4wd too? - could be wrong, don't shoot me). And in sport cars a healthy amount of oversteer is good (you can control the turning with throttle). The myth is probably from the old days (80's?) when rich stock market juppies bought 911 and crashed it when they had no idea how to drive it. (ok, it wasn't the easiest car to drive, but you get the point)

Besides for free I would take GT3RS any time over Ferrari Enzo. Or actualy I would take the Enzo, sell it, buy two GT3s and go for a long holiday

Sometimes. Even some of my hotlaps are done with music on. It depends on music, but some music can make me try harder. Of course I play it so that I can hear both music and the car sounds.

I read/heard somewhere you can't get GT3RS with any other than white color (with red stripes). I guess it has changed...

Anyway, damn nice car. I've always loved how Porsches look (except maybe 914).

Hard to say. Don't know where the problem is. Anyway I used 'knife' for the code already. It accepts all the inputs now and seems to work. I code the few more things, test myself and give it to test then.

Yes. I noticed exactly the same thing couple of hours ago. I debugged it and looks like when running it with manager the 'coding' of the messages user types changes (the messages which are sent to the program). So I know how the coding changes, but don't know really why.

It would be easy to fix it in the code, but first I would like to understand why it does it.

Anyway, it is such problem that you cannot fix it without a new version. Only fix now is to run it alone or try another gateway. I might drop a new quick fix version tomorrow or few days (even outside of official versions), if you think this is important (you need absolutely racemanager too).

("!trip on" should display "tripmeter on". If it displays no text to some command it means, the command is wrong, it didn't get the message somehow or it couldn't get valid player name and command out of it, or vcom is not even running)

If you run them in the same computer, then use 127.0.0.1 (really, use it, not the physical address). It is not really the same thing as the physical interface of your computer. Besides 127.0.0.1 works even without any NICs (network interface cards).

AFAIK LFS cannot operate insim on other than localhost (could be wrong but don't know how to change it then). In vcom there is still the same forced restriction, even you can give other than localhost address too. Currently it has been bit like a reminder for me to give user ability to change the interface (other than loopback). Quite simple really, but since it wasn't important for me I have posponed it (ok, i make it to the next ver). But honestly it is bit hard to think good reasons running them in different computers.

I got the idea you were running them in the same computer (address). Then you cannot use those 2 ports in manager either. If the source and destination addresses are the same (loopback) the port numbers use the same 'pool'. So both cannot be for example 29995. For example in manager i put "port = 29990" (instead of 29997) in the insim section and in vcom setup file system section i put "lfs_address=127.0.0.1:35000;". The addresses in manager and vcom are always 127.0.0.1. That works fine for me.

You could have been bit more specific in the first post. At least we could have saved the effort writing couple of posts and 1 day of time. For example I'm still not 100% sure if you run them in the same or different computers

I found it. Sorry but I have forgotten some hard coded test only things in the code. The relay thing in vcom is half made but is still running. There are few hard coded stuff which means you cannot use ports 29997 and 29995 for your own use (the things cannot be altered in setup file because it is not even supposed to be running).

It works as long as you do not use localhost ports 29997 and 29995. I tested it and it works. I fix it for the next version. Damn, stupid me:banghead:

Haven't tryed that manager thingie, but I think the relaying (gateway) works so that you give vcom the manager ip and port (the 'gateway' port or what ever) and not the lfs ip/port.

Maybe the new tyre physics affects it somehow.

Actually some time ago one person had made a drag setup (XRT) and posted his time and set on the forum. I tryed it and even I'm a mouse user I didn't get so much worse time. I was little surprised as I thought I would get much worse result, because I have to use max throttle in the start. So maybe there is indeed something wrong.

Don't forget the power supply. Usually the new gfx cards take more power and the old power might not be powerful enough. Some cases come with a power and might be a good choice sometimes.

Quote from bbman :Ever heard of right-click and "Save as..."? IE7 tries to open the file, and if you don't have a plug-in that scans the URL's for .mpeg, it displays the file as it is: Binary (it isn't even binary but the images and the sound displayed as ASCII-Code)! What the hell do you think is wrong with that?

Sure I know save as. I just don't want my HD full of all crap which I would need to remove immediately anyway after watching it. Besides it worked before in IE6. I really don't know why but now with IE7, some extensions cause that. Besides I remember that before in IE6 it didn't even start printing unknown extensions in text (it warned not having plugin for that). If you think that it is a normal or userfriendly way (loosing plugins or what is used to play certain extension), there is something wrong there. Or do you work in MS? illepall

As for the "binary", I think it is the usually used term to describe when non printable stuff (non text) is printed. If you want to split hairs then actually ascii codes are binary too inside computer just like all data (1s and 0s). I just hoped that I wouldn't need to write a novel here to say such a simple thing, but I guess I was wrong.

Besides updating to IE7 has some other interesting things too, but I guess I post them to MS rather than here. Or actually I think I stay with firefox which has little bit more normal behaviour. I wish they had even fixed the non-standard things in their HTML implementations.

Yep. He 'milks' it (that's how my driving school teacher called it years ago)

I just don't know which one is funnier. The film or how the new IE7 tryes to show it (just printing binary crap). Quick fix was to use firefox to show it illepall

Will this do?

It is a 16 char random string made by the C pseudo random generator (so not truely random) using all latin letters, numbers and few special chars.

(Oh yeah... I'm really proud for this nonsense post, but atleast the quality isn't getting any worse compared to previous posts Tilt )

This alt-tab'bing thing. Some games actually seem to do some counter measures when you alt-tab back to it. One example for this is Rome:Total War. It has a blank screen at first and it displays a progress meter. Maybe it reloads some graphics. Other than that small waiting time there are no other side effects. So it clearly spots when it is active again after alt-tab.

But I alt-tab LFS too. I've alt-tabbed offline, online plays and non dedi server. No bad things yet, what I've noticed.

Hmmm... so car damage is calculated in every computer, not just the one who's car it is. Something i didn't know. Lag would explain the small 'jumps' the car makes after the crash. Didn't even think about lag cause it was moving so smoothly otherwise.

I didn't know the driver and I didn't even notice it until my friend sent the replay. Anyway I haven't seen this before, but maybe I've been just lucky.
Bug or a cheat (car fixed while driving)?
Aquilifer

A friend of mine spotted this.

During a race driver hits a wall and his front wheel gets bended badly. He continues driving and soon abracadabra his damage dissappears! I think this not any graphical thing because in F10 the damage is fixed too.

Never seen this before. Smells like a cheat (program?)

See yourself. Follow pod.germanpio. It happens on the last corners at lap 2 and it is fixed before the end of the lap.

Quote from Jakg :no idea - the 7500LE s as quick as a 6600GT is you have a lot of ram, as the 7500LE is TurboCache, so it leeches memory of your PC, although the 7500LE is OEM only - i don't know anything about the 7500GS, neither does Google, either way i'd steer clear

Yeh, stay far from it. I would never touch any turbocrap stuff. Even if you had all the memory in the world it wouldn't be as fast as onboard gfx card memory. Just think about it needing to transfer all the stuff constantly between system memory and gpu illepall

I've noticed bit the same thing. Like driving fox about 215.xxkm/h (looking the speedo), the real speed is something like 213.xx km/h. Assuming insim gives the true speed.

It doesn't hurt me, because it is like it works in real cars. Besides i watch rev meter mostly if i watch any meters at all.

Yep, 7600gt is faster. Unless money is an issue and 1600 would be lot cheaper go for 7600. More gfx memory might be useful if you have a game which has lot of textures etc (usually they are so new games that you would need a faster card than 1600pro). But for lfs 7600 should be much better.

You can compare different cards with different settings (and different games) for example here

Could be. Haven't heard though.

But multicore thingie still improves single process too. That's because in single core (or less cores than processes/threads), the system constantly swaps the processes between processor and memory as only one can be executed at the time. With more cores (or even HT) this should happen less often. With 80 cores, maybe some core could be even devoted to one single resource hungry process (like LFS?) (not in program code but in system scheduler).
Aquilifer

I think it is not ment to improve the execution on one program, but running multiple programs at the same time. You might think what bo****ks, i never run more than 1 program at the time. Well type ctrl+alt+del and see the process list and count them. Usually people have at least firewall and anti virus scanner running at the background.

Currently not so many games are coded so that you could get so much benefit from N cores.

Yes, well it might indeed be a good idea to put a link...

EDIT: Currently you need Winamp, but I might put support for other players (which can run plugins)
