I found this interesting site
http://www.kolumbus.fi/leif.snellman/main.htm

It has all kind of racing information from 1930s. Car data, races, drivers, track maps, speed record attempts, results etc... and nice pixel cars.

I especially liked the old track maps and the short race discriptions. It has also the current 2007 F1 GP standings calculated with pre war point system.

When I look at the track maps, it makes me wonder what the heck was wrong with the Germans. They had 2 tracks at the time and in totally opposite ends of track design - one was called "the green hell" and the other one had "the wall of death"

Hmmm... so disappointing... I thought they finally caught you...

You see, I thought it was this kind of thing you were talking about...

Should the server work now? Because I cannot join it. Basicly it ( [DWLYTS] Soccer) shows in LFSWorld, but not in the game's server list. In my experience this could be because...

- Your server can contact the main server to report itself, but...
- Any contact from outside is blocked by your firewall (or if NAT firewall the address translation could be wrong).

What router do you have? Maybe somebody can give detailed instructions, if you need. Anyway, I hope you can fix it.

a) UDP for all
...

So this is now verified to stay like this for a distant future? My program is ment to be used over loopback so TCP communication is not really needed. I hope this option won't be removed. I have used guaranteed delivery, but I have no idea when the packet could get lost when talking to localhost (queue overflow?). So maybe I can live w/o it.

I guess in that case most insim programmers like me, just need to
1) change the packet formats
2) remove guaranteed delivery (stop ACKing packets) if used

ok thanks for info.

Do you know who these people are?

They are LFS beta test group testing the W9 patch with voluntary weight handicap system.

Quote from MonkOnHotTinRoof :Basically I have same questions as Aquilifier (I don't see any point in having 2 types of communication - gateway, anyone? ), and in addition:
1.UDP no long works in W12, specification says connection will work with protocol started...
2./i command yields unknown command, am I missing something here?

@Becky: you can delete post, it's easier than editing it, and write it's deleted

This post will self-remove in few hours to reduce spam (and decrease my posts again )

To your two points. I haven't tried W12 with insim yet, because I haven't done anything to my insim prog yet.

Your point 2. I got that answer when I tryed the /i command when there was no insim prog running in the same computer (non dedi server). But worked as soon as I run insim program (W10). It's bit misleading and it should say no insim prog running. I didn't try how it works if you type it in a guest computer.

Like Monk said I don't like the idea of having both TCP and UDP either (at the same time). If somebody didn't get it from my 1st post. It is good that UDP is kept at least in the beginning but it's just confusing need to have both running at the same time.

Few questions...

1. (from ISPackets.txt)
"// The regular packets IS_NLP and IS_MCI are the only exceptionss - not sent via TCP."

So I need to listen UDP too? I have to implement TCP communication, but still listen UDP too?

2. Is this decided that TCP is the future and UDP is abandoned in the (near?) future? (if so, what about IS_NLP and IS_MCI then?)

TIA

more fun=realism (after all I play LFS and not NFS )

Realism in the way how human bodies react after being hit means that they simply collapse to the ground. That holds for rifle calibre and .50 cal. You would need to hit with quite a big gun before bodies start to fly (and they would most probably explode rather than 'fly').

I played the demo. It feels good. Not running and jumping around like in many FPS games. (like BF2 is a lousy arcade shoot em up)

Didn't buy it yet, cause my machine needs serious upgrading (actually a whole new ride). I get 20-25fps in the coop demo with my 2.8GHz HT P4 and Radeon 9700.

At least in the demo there are some performance issues. Like the capture the island mode gradually eats all the juice out of you computer. It slowly gets slower and slower. After 1 hour my system has gone into a dia show. How fast this happens sounds to be system spec dependant (some can play it like 6 hours). The other modes work perfectly for me.

Quote from kompa :When I bought a Voodoo2 card with 12mb of memory back in '98 the sales person insisted that's the max amount of mem these cards are ever going to need, hah!

I had one of those too. This reminds me... shouldn't LFS have a Glide support too

What the sales person said to you is bit like what Bill Gates said back in 1981... "640 kB ought to be enough for anyone". Gates denies he ever said this but we off course do not believe him.

Well, Wiki is your friend (?)

"The official pluralized form of Lexus is simply Lexus, although the public has coined its own derivatives"

So this is again second hand knowledge so don't shoot me if I'm (wiki is)wrong

Not anymore. That one went down. Sadly, not so many peole joined in the end. Dunno why, but maybe people are lazy learning new tracks. At least the tracks were good (not the usual AS2/3, BL1).

The mode 2 sucks if you mean that you have to race the same bunch low end cars in 1001 races before you 'can' progress to next level. No matter how good times you are able to do in faster cars (or how fair driver you are).

I really don't see how that would make the racer/server situation any better than what it is right now in S2. Only a few servers get constantly racers and interesting combos are difficult to find (with anybody online already). In that case even more people play the 'progress' mode and what if you have no interest to play the low end cars in the set tracks? It certainly doesn't help finding good races if some of the players are playing behind 'closed' doors.

Yep, that would be a good basis for a 'VWR'. Also then we would get a RWD opponent against XFR and UFR.

Miata is not in the same league as UF1. I have nothing against Miata, but beetle is in the same league as UF1.

"Miata a legend"? Lol... okay maybe the requirements to get a legend status are bit lower in your neighbourhood (no offence), but no way you can talk it in the same day as Mini or Beetle.

I think some VW beetle looking car would be the best match. It's RWD and has roughly the same power and weight. Besides UF1 looks much like the classic Mini so the Beetle lookalike would be another classic car.

Maybe even some VWR ('Herbie') version to compete in the XFR/UFR class.

My first racing games were Test Drive, Test Drive II (the Duel) and F1GP all in Amiga. I loved the F1 game so much that I played full championship seasons with 100% length races.

I was last night on one MRT AS1 server. It was quite fun. But yes, it is bit nasty car to control. Especially if you drive with mouse like me. I don't think it is the wheel you need, but the pedals (like with most RWD cars).

Yes, second S2 might be useful... if you loose your current code.
If not, always can surprise a friend.
GMT and summer time
Aquilifer

I'm not sure how many know that GMT is not affected by summer time change (ie. daylight saving). Because many LFS racing events are GMT timed this is some what important to racers. Like yesterday one event started 1 hour too early because of an official mistake.

So I decided to remind you just in case. Like last night Finland changed to summer time and while during the winter season we were GMT+2 we are now GMT+3. Thumbs up

If you are uncertain what the GMT time is right now, check...

Quote from axus :y' - (2/x)y = x^2*e^x
let I be the integrating factor:
I = e^(integral (2/x dx))
I = e^(-2ln x)
I = x^-2

therefore,
x^-2 * y = integral(e^x dx)
y = x^2(e^x + c)

:headbang: But if that was easy to see (ie. you could write down the answer without calculation), respect .

Heh, not really (it was a joke). But if you have a good idea what form the answer is going to be, you can try it other way around and just correct your initial guess if needed. Sometimes it is easier this way than do it systematically as you did. Especially if you do not have paper and a pen Shrug

But... if it is asked in an exam, you cannot just give the answer. You have to show how get it naturally (I think) Uhmm

Quote from Jakg :if by differential equations you mean differentiation (ie x[squared]+5x+3 dy[over]dx) then actually, i find them pretty easy, and i'm predicted an E in maths extension!

Example of 1st order differential equation could be xy'-2y=x^3*e^x. (where y' is dervative of y). See the difference - that is an equation (something equals something) not a formula, function etc. Now the task is to find some y(x) which fulfills the equation. The answer is pretty easy to see so I leave it out. Uhmm
