Quote from Rappa Z :
Speaking of which, they've got the car absolutely covered in advertising, but they still struggle for money?

I guess you would have to sell ad. space at a lower cost if it was not so popular..hence you would have to sell more of it...?
You can also figure that the ones doing the advertising can deal for size of space/surrounding ads./number of ads./etc...dependent on how much they pay..if you want fast money then the deals should be small and many of them?

The car with many stickers will not always win!

I watched the Riakkonen/Magnussen incident a few times (from 43:18.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/e ... laysian_Grand_Prix_Forum/ ).
Yes Rai should have known he would be there...but Mag should have known he was running into a closing door. The guy behind always has the better view.
To me it is just a racing incident...but I guess you have to set rules and stick to them.....

Is there a Forza thread for talking about Forza?
I use the triggers for acceleration/brake on Forza...for GT on the PS, I have always used the buttons...I have a great right thumb for modulation....my jerky left thumb steering slows me down.

Quote from Intrepid :First my comment was in jest, and secondly I have been around motorsport for 27 years... and if there's one thing I have learned - when everyone has the 'same' car it rarely means the 'best' driver wins.

I guess that I did not gather that you were being sarcastic....
If you have racing with the "same" car then the better driver will win one on one....as the number of racers increase then the "best" driver will have a lesser chance of winning.

Quote from Intrepid :I thought the new regs meant the smart drivers would win?

You did?
I thought the start would be about the best engine package....as time went on then it would be more about the car around the engine...and when the cars are all the same then it would be about the driver.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :All this time, I thought racists were people who raced cars.
How incorrect I was.

Racers is the word you want.

Quote from amp88 :
If you say "black c*nt" you're obviously using the word "black" as part of the insult, surely? If the person you're referring to had just said "c*nt" that would still have been offensive, but it wouldn't have been racist. Similarly, if Atkinson had just said "lazy" rather than "lazy n*gger" that wouldn't have been racist (unless, as with Top Gear's Mexican remarks, the word "lazy" was being used in conjunction with the idea of a specific group of people (Mexicans or black people, for example)). Yes, I saw that people defended Atkinson in that case, but his remarks were still racist to me and to the people he worked for at the time, hence his dismissal(s).

If someone is looking to offend someone then they will choose the words.....if the words can be more personal then they will cause greater offense...so...two black guys can not opt for the colour offense...a white guy and a black guy have options based on colour.
Regarding Atkinson....without any doubt it is not a popular word for a white person to use...

Quote from amp88 :
Clearly it's a parody of Bernard Manning, yes. I find it the character funny because it's effectively the antithesis of Manning and proves you can be funny without being needlessly offensive (I wish Top Gear would try and learn that). If your point is that Manning is OK because his routines resulted in Righton then I disagree. I'd rather live in a world with neither Manning (or people whose comedy is like his) nor Righton than one with both.

...but the point is that some people find BM funny..others do not...if you have a world without BM (seriously, BM is not to my taste at all, but for the point I am trying to make...) where would we be?

When I was around 10 years old my father owned a newsagents and I used to spend most of Saturday in the shop. Every Saturday morning two old women (those are observational remarks) would enter the shop and struggle to reach Mayfair/Razzle/etc. from the top shelf and then bring it to the counter and complain about how the magazine is degrading to women....no doubt they have the right to have their own view and be free to air that view...in the same way that the guy who has the reserved copy of Mayfair/Razzle.

Quote from amp88 :
I don't think Top Gear should make jokes about any groups based on race, physical/mental disability, sex, age, nationality etc. That is absolutely not the same as saying "don't make fun of Germans, but you can make fun of the French, people in wheelchairs and Asian women". I also fail to understand where the idea of "if you make fun of everyone you're not being offensive" comes from. By definition, if you make fun of everyone you're being offensive to everyone. If I gathered one person of each race/nationality/sex etc in a room and insulted each of them in turn would that not be offensive?

My instant thought was of the Fawlty Towers episode where Basil is not allowed to mention the war...is that still allowed to be funny?

Quote from tristancliffe :It's because of fraud.

People claim for things they shouldn't ("I pay for the insurance, so I want something out of it"). This is fraud.
Insurance firms are greedy. Not technically fraud I guess!
Young people drive like twats and damage other peoples' property. Also not technically fraud
Motor traders hike prices for insurance work. This is fraudulent practice in my opinion.
Car hire firms get on the case and charge extra-stupid sums for a week/months hire. This is fraudulent practice in my opinion.

And a lot of other things too.

No doubt there are a number of fraudulent claims...same as TV license dodgers...or benefit claimants....etc.

Insurance firms are a business looking to make profit.

Amature drivers are of course deemed a higher risk...young people are also a higher risk.

Motor traders sell cars!....for accident repairs, bodyshops in my area get paid anywhere between 20-30 pounds/hour by insurance companys...if it is an insurance approved bodyshop then they get paid less but they have the guarantee of supplied work....mechanical work at dealerships in my area would be charged between 50-100 pounds/hr. Note that if the vehicle has both body and mechanical damage then separate charges will be worked out, yet tools/equipment/staff pay is similar.

Car hire firms are another business looking to make a profit....but approved repairers will always have courtesy cars (these are terms you have to agree with the insurance company to become an approved repairer)...

Quote from Racer X NZ :Awesome, roll on the disagreements to that !

LOLZ, stopping humour is racism if the humour is based on race.

Yes...roll on the disagreements..I am intrigued with other peoples ideas on racism.
For me, a racist is someone that has an instant hatred for a person due to their colour...colour is a primitive indication of your origin...
Racism is dealt out by racists.

Quote from amp88 :
Sounds similar to the Ron Atkinson controversy. Sure, these are openly racist remarks.

Are they marks of a racist...or just words used by someone?
In my example (referring to someone as a "black c***")...surely the first word is a description of colour and the second word is the offensive part?..If he was tall the wording may have been "lanky c***"...or a beard then "beardy c***"..etc.
In your example (and link), there are people that defend Ron Atkinson...no doubt he used the same wording for years...and no one was offended.

Quote from amp88 :
I suppose it can be funny, but I don't really enjoy that kind of comedy. I prefer people who don't need to pick on differences or minorities to get their laughs (such as Stewart Lee, Dave Gorman, Charlie Brooker and Demetri Martin). Also see the John Thomson character Bernard Righton above.

Personally I do not find Charlie Brooker funny....Stewart Lee and Dave Gorman are entertaining though.
Bernard Righton is of course a BM parody,so....you find the thought of racism funny but laughing about it is not right eh?

Quote from amp88 :
I don't buy this "<x> hates everyone equally" defence. It's been used a number of times before (by Bernard Manning in particular). It's such a weak defence against the act of intentionally trying to create offence by singling out particular attributes (skin colour, sex, nationality etc).

I do believe that "<x> can hate everyone equally".
Maybe JC hates Asian people more than, say....cyclists....who knows...but comedy can be made from intolerance....because many people are intolerant, no matter if that is because you are a different sex/size/religion/etc. or you are just a noisy neighbour...or you have not said thankyou after I held the door open for you.....or you did not even nod to show your gratitude after I gestured you out of a junction in traffic.
Comedy will be fun for those that find it funny...if it is not funny then the comedian will neither be popular or last long.

Quote from amp88 :I agree that it's difficult to know where to draw the line and it can also be tricky to keep up with 'acceptable' and 'unacceptable' words and phrases. Ironically, part of this problem is because of people/groups taking words and using them as insults. A couple of examples would be "spastic" and "retard". These were terms used generally by medical professionals for specific situations. Members of the general public latched onto them and started to use them either intentionally as bullying terms intended to cause emotional harm (especially in the case of the word "spastic") or as a jocular term used in a similar fashion to casually racist terms (e.g. "You're such a retard!"). The use of the word "spastic" (particularly in the UK) would now generally be frowned upon unless it was medically relevant or in relation to, for example, the former name of "Scope". "Retard" is still used quite liberally, but it's another term which can be considered offensive.

It is funny that you mention "spastic", I used the term recently and was chastised by someone around 15 years younger than me. Of course my only redemption was that it is an actual medical term...or at least was to my knowledge.
Quote from amp88 :
With regards to shortened terms for nationality (such as "Aussie" and "Scot"), again, these are open to interpretation and should take into account historical usage. For instance, "Aussie Mark Webber" and "Scot Andrew Murray" are acceptable but "Paki Imran Khan" wouldn't be. This is largely because of the negative history of the term "Paki" (especially in the UK) as being intentionally offensive to Pakistanis (and other Asians, since racists ironically aren't particularly adept at identifying different nationalities).

...and this is where it can become complicated.
Why is the abbreviation for one ok but another not?
Yes, you mention history being the reason for not abbreviating the term for a person from Pakistan...but surely it is the specific incidents that have to be dealt with...not the words involved?
It would always be easier to play the racism card rather than deal with an actual integration problem.
I recall a football incident ( I do not watch football generally but it was a popular story), where a white player called another player a "black c***".....of course the aggressor is looking to offend...maybe if they were both the same shade of pale then he would of used a different word in-front of the C word.

Quote from amp88 :
I'm sure there are non-white comedians who tell blatantly racist and/or casually racist jokes too, but I'm unfamiliar with them. I don't tend to go out of my way to view people who are intentionally offensive, so my knowledge of that particular group isn't the best.

Do not be shy...it can be very funny to laugh...even when the joke is aimed at people that you may associate with yourself with....colour/age/gender/religion/height/size/etc...

Quote from amp88 :
What's more important is whether the Top Gear team knew what they were doing. As I said above, they count on ignorance and apathy to get away with these types of things.

Surely you know that Jeremy Clarkson is just a guy that hates everyone...it is probably nothing personal.....but it can be entertaining.

Quote from amp88 :What Top Gear's casual racism does, though, is to help to create a permissive society where casual racism and other groups of offensive terms (such as the 'fatty' example above) are more acceptable and seen as totally different to flagrant racism, rather than just a diluted version.

I do wonder where it can end?
Can I no longer describe a person with the words:
fat/skinny/tall/short/big nose/etc.
If someone has a beard...can I not call him beardy? Are we still allowed to call people from Austrailia Aussies...etc...etc?

You mention a few comedians and all appear to be pale skinned....are they the only comedians that made money from popular topics or just the ones you are familiar with?

Personally I had no idea that the word slope could be used to describe anyone. So the totally politically correct JC (:tilt made an inane joke that passed straight over my and many other peoples heads...quite frankly...who cares...nothing new!

Quote from Töki (HUN) :I noticed that as well. Just look at this video that shows both of them driving. Kimi from the beginning, Alo from 4:47.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doiAnjUvqbo

From that video it would seem quite clear that the two drivers are running with different intentions...the first driver was always short shifting and the second driver was clearly trying to warm the tyres for a good laptime when we joined him.
Make no mistake though...Alonso will be more familiar than Raikkonen with the car and team in general...who they (the team) choose to favour and what will happen will be the interesting part....

I prefer the Feltzer in the sports class but have not tried a fully modded Carbonizzare, maybe I should.
In my garage I have:-
Bikes....BO1RR and Akuma
Cars...Entity...Turismo....Feltzer...Exemplar...Gauntlet...Baller...Bifta...and the dreadful Rat Loader that I got for free just to see what all the fuss was about!

With only a ten car garage it is not possible to have the tool for every race, yes, you can cover all of the classes but many times you will need a different car/bike dependent on the track....eg Adder/Entity or Akuma/BO1 and short/long/twisty/straight tracks.
