There were many servers online for similar things....point based races...point based lap times....
Also many online way of comparing races/laps/times/etc...
The AI players (Artificial Intelligence) in the game are not very good (same as many racing/driving games). Better to play online and then you can compare to other real people.
The first game (0:12) looks like an arcade game called Sprint that I put many hours into (late 1970)....is funny looking back and remembering thinking "this is brilliant...how can it get better"
Yes I heard that too Jon...just this morning on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show..
Also rumours of JB going to Williams if Bottas goes to Ferrari...
Who knows what will happen but I would love to see him on Top Gear...I am so looking forward to having a car program on the telly again...with people that know stuff about cars.
The more you practice then the more you know where the limitations are....as an easy example take turn one at BL1 on LFS...if you are inconsistent around that corner then your lap time will also be inconsistent and that is disregarding all of the other corners.
Quite simply if your lap times are inconsistent then you are not doing the same thing every lap....which means you are making mistakes. In qualifying then of course you push the limits and mistakes can happen but in the race you should be running within the limits of how you take a corner...and with practice you know those limits...yes in qual. you might be able to brake right on the edge and gain a faster time but in the race that could well cost you time.
Also agree with above...in a game you can go mental whereas when you are really in the car then self preservation will hold you back. Yes, you may well be pretty consistent with your times on the track IRL...but do a thousand laps and you will realise you were just being consistently slow and safe.
When driving a car in real life of course we have so many extra "features" that help us...in the gaming world things are very different and you must have everything set up to your liking to be consistent.
In my mind facing the screen properly is more important than the size of the screen..eg..too far away or too close and of course viewing at an angle will not help.
Making consistent lap times is just about knowing where to brake and where to turn into the corner (basically)...so I do wonder about how you view the screen and where you are looking? To be consistent you obviously have to do the same thing (more or less) every lap at every corner.
I was never great at racing in this game....probably because I was uncomfortable when other cars were near me...no doubt, as they say it is all down to getting used to it.
It is a funny thing getting older...when young many are just angry and confrontational all of the time...when older many just lack tolerance at times.
Most people here understand that you are not out to take over the world....in my mind you are a bit of a hippy...that is not meant to be derogatory in any way...I am nodding and agreeing with how you work as I have the same ethic. I do good work but do as little work as possible...
As already said...probably not for a few years yet.
I do think that a track editor would bring so many new players into the game now though.....and from what I can see when I look is that there are not enough players to provide entertainment and variation for extended periods.
Above all LFS is a great game that works and works well.
Of course the developers need to make money from what they do...and continue to make money when they are not doing what they do..
Something like a track editor would seem (to me) to be free money...someone else is creating content that can be un-licensed and they not only pay you for that but others also pay you to accesss that content...lol.
There are so many ways in which a track editor could work with LFS..of course no one wants this to turn into a million tracks where you have to download the exact thing for it to work.
Simple forum voting can decide content...pay a few quid for downloads...(not few quid and download all...but few quid to download selected).
Come on Scawen just take a look at how the rest of the world works....
I can not comment if setup stealing still happens as I have not played for an age...but I would imagine so....there have been many forum topics about it over the years.
I remember meekly asking those in-game to share a setup with me if it was a combination I didn't have one for....the fond memories of "anyone set please?"
Yes...me too. "Sir" Nilex will confirm that...but even when I had his set it was useless with me...bah damn BL1 and XFG and mousers...pff.
How often the reply was "sorry team/private set" even if you got a reply when asking for a set though...times change
I do not know how you come up with these things Racer X NZ...but...
There has been much guff about this that and the other in the UK press...Chris Evans secretly recording...May and Hammond offered much monies...etc....
Again...what is to be gained by preventing people stealing it when they will never buy it anyway....why spend anytime coding or whatever when that time could be spent on actual game improvements, as a paid member I do not care about what other people do...only what I can have.
a) demotivation
b) certainly people would buy LFS instead of cracking, not all.. But the current culture is like hhmm I can get it for free so do it for free. Cracked servers are even better occupied then legal servers. It's crazy!
c) If you take away some capabilities to host something completely on your own, beyond master control, then it's hackable but if not, again like Iracing, then it's not possible. You cannot hack an online bank too do you?
Without increased security I don't see much future for LFS and concerning programming time; some specialist can make work of that. Doesn't need to be done by one single person because thats too much work (probably).
Anyway, more content doesn't generate more people anymore, so much is obvious. So people asking for even more content at this point its quite useless thing to do.
Old S2 members didn't even try the new Westhill yet (yeah offline for three laps and it was great! => I don't believe those stories).
I can not be bothered to break it down...so will just block quote...
A- demotivation...for who? If the developers were concerned then I am sure they would take some action. It to me means nothing and before you say "yeye you dont play no more"...the cracking business has been going for many years...it did not bother me then or now.
B- the type of people who want LFS for free are also the type that find the other various cheats...clutch for example...(you might need more info. there but not on the main forum eh)...I would rather they were not playing alongside genuine people. (Also you have a real problem with your perception of society...but that is another matter).
C-No point at all to ask me how it works or how to fix PC matters....
As for adding extra people to deal with the crackers....wut?....you know exactly how the LFS team work...no?
As for extra content and the latest WE...I have not tried it...my wheel is defunct...I would need to invest money into a new wheel before returning...and I would need to be interested enough in LFS to justify the outlay....put Nordschleife into the map list and that new wheel will be eagerly awaited in the post.
Of course not to say that Nord. would be the only reason I would return...but I have driven more miles than you..my only reason for stopping playing was that I had driven every turn..soooooo many times...no complaint about different cars...just new scenery was needed...new WE is not enough for me (personally).
You want races join a league they are still going I'm back after 7 years and when I fired it up I was thinking damn this feels good. Just mad I lost all my setups I made they should have a storage for setups on this site I know there is setupgrid and a few of my sets where still there thank god. Just wish more people drove LRF class its all about the RAC! That is interesting about AC having so many empty servers was thinking about buying that but I think I'll pass. I've heard of this setup stealing crap is that still going on? I'm spending like weeks running the fbm and it would be a shame to have someone pick my pocket.
Blimey, there is a name from the past...hope all is good for you.
You are right it would be nice to have setup storage on LFS World...maybe pay a few quid for the privilege..
I can not comment if setup stealing still happens as I have not played for an age...but I would imagine so....there have been many forum topics about it over the years.
Anyway...no matter if someone had your set they would still have to drive like you...get out there and show um.
Would lower and upper case count?....So my name here is Anthoop, would it be different if it was anTHoop?
Edit- I can find a domain on whois with the exact same name/letters...just the upper/lower case is different
Domains are case insensitive (e.g. LfS.net = lFs.net).
If you gave us more info you'd get a lot more back.
Thanks.
As I said in my first post, apologies for vagueness....I found the information I needed as someone told me how to find it....(just did not want to tell everyone about that special doll I was looking for)....
