hi guys, just wondering, as of right now, are there any existing programs written for LFS that can read or receive the UDP packets sent my LFS? For example, read the information sent and then save it as a txt file. The reason is...first obviously it would save me alot of time, secondly, even if its just a very basicaly program, I can use while demonstrate LFS during the prelim report presentation!

the basic idea is to have two computers.

computer 1: will contain LFS, and hopefully will have attached steering wheel and pedals. While the user is driving, realtime data will be sent to a second computer.

computer 2: this computer will be running Max/MSP, and my own developed software, which will transform the realtime vehicle data from LFS, into something my program can read, which will in turn equate to different sounds, and sound distortions

obviously most of the sound will be coming from computer 2, that can be attached to the surround sound speaker systems that is in the room (we are presenting our work in this hi-tech room at uni, with lots of cool gadgets and tech!). computer 1 probably should have some sound coming from it, so the driver can get feedback on what is happening with the car.

there are alot of interesting possibilities with all this, such as...how would a drifter sound compare to a racer? hehe! other stuff like .raf files generated from replays, these can be fed into the software and churn out interesting music too, it would be like putting a cd into a cd-drive, and wolaah! u hav music! eventually you might have a collection of LFS created music hehe, different cars, on different tracks....the possibilities are endless!

is it possible to extract any other data? like engine revs, gears, wheel spin etc. Thanks

"Interactive Auditory Display" - University Assignment

Hi everyone, one of my subjects at Uni is 'Advanced Interactive Media', and what I would like to do for the major project is using a car as an music instrument, okay sounds nuts right? Well let me explain (very briefly though! because I havent actually go right down to the research bits yet, just brain storming).

Okay, instead of using a real car (which would be stupid due to money and time and technical constraints), I thought maybe I can use Live for Speed, which can simulate everypart of a car's movement that I need. Basically the idea is that, each component of the cars movement, such as:

Revs, Gear, Suspension Travel, Wheel Speed, Camber Roll, Angle, Acceleration, Decleration, Speed

will have an effect on certain components of sound, such as pitch, volume, tone

So as a result of driving the car, you can create music! it could be making sounds from scratch, or kind of 'remixing' (excuse the lack of technical words) existing music.

My question is, how feasible is it to do this kind of thing with LFS? I know that these .raf files contains every one of these car movement components I mentioned, but is there a way to generate all this data in real time? So as the user is driving, the sounds could be generated, which gives them instant feedback on how their driving is effecting the music. I have not actually looked into programming in LFS, so any help will be appreciated. Like I said, I am still in prelimenary concepts stage, but if I decide to do this, I'll prob be needing alot more help hehe!

Thanks

William

P.S I will be using Max/Msp to do the actual sound making, incase any of you would like to know.

what game do you people play again?

yes I am a mouse driver and after the recent patch, the cars are more predictable, and you can get quite fast with the mouse (just keep practicing), the obvious disadvantage is the digital throttle and brake imputs, but you can compensate by using lower button control rate and then tapping like a madman. But the key is practice practice practice, it is very hard because you dont have the 'physical' feel of the wheel underneath you, so hard to judge how much your turning, and its extremely easy to misjudge the amount of your countersteering etc.

some tips - use cockpit view with wheel, it makes it ALOT easier, also you may wish to turn forces on, to remove the dashboard, looks weird, but easier to hit these apex's and through chicanes.

my controls -

left right click = shift
a nd z = throttle and brake

good luck!

the point is no signup is required, the races are set regularly so you can show up whenever you want and free. The idea is that after a while people kinda just know when that at certain times of the week, they can have a enduro if they are in the mood

Hi NotAnIllusion, yes this is almost exactly the same idea as before but it wont be 'everyday' as last time, instead a few set days of the week maybe

any suggestions are welcome!

So basically with 100% fuel, you should soften the anti roll bar at the start of the race, and then slowly stiffen it until it is as stiff as you would have it during qualifying etc.

I read somewhere that in longer races, where you have 100% fuel, it is a good idea to change the ARB settings as you use up your fuel and your car becomes lighter, but unfortunately I dont remember the part about how you should change the ARB, stiffer or softer?

I am more specifically looking for tips on a BF1 car with 100% fuel. Thx

http://www.wc3banlist.de/about

This program is created to make an effort at keeping your DotA games free of notorious leavers. Thereby it offers a local database (to which you can add people yourself) to alert you when a "leaver" joins your game or someone you've kept some information about.

The program can do this in various ways:

* Play a sound as soon as a leaver is detected, or banned.

* Display a text in-game floating at the top of your screen.

* Copy a text into the clipboard, so you can view the comment by pressing CTRL-V.

Further features include:

* Synchronization with other people's banlists via the Banlist.nl Buddy Banlist System

* Integration of clans' banlists / safelists.

------------------------

So to these who are not familiar with this concept, games such as warcraft3 (and its dota mod) involve games running 1 hour or longer, and usually has several players on each team, whenever one of the teammembers leave, it kind of ruins the game for everyone else, possible reasons for leaving might be -they are losing bad, they dont like the teams, or they just cant be bothered

not this isnt a issue in LFS, but it has a similar effect as wreckers, and I think something like this can work!

so lemme go through it briefly. Whenever a wreckers shows up, people in the server can choose to 'mark' the wrecker, so next time that wrecker joins a server, and if the server is running the program, it will display something like driver name (username) (12) has joined the server. The 12 beings how many times he has been marked, that way admins and drivers can make an informed decision one whether to kick that driver or not. Maybe it is possible for servers to set scripts to automatically prevent users with a certain number of wreckin points to join.

Thats the basic gist of the idea, sorry i dont have time to get into it, and I do know there are potential flaws and ways the system can be exploited, but I think its something....
How to play LFS on LAN?
Lola Popeye

Hi, im not the smartest when it comes to networking etc, so yea...how do I start a LAN game?

The reason is that I got LFS installed on Uni computers (muhahaha!), but unfortunately due to certain blocky thingies, it cant connect to the net, so I guess we can only play on LAN. Now most LAN games ive played, ie warcraft 3, cs, there is a simple LAN browser...but thats not in LFS, so my question is, how do I connect? and what IP do I use?

Edit: found it here - http://www.lfsforum.net/showth ... ?t=5776&highlight=lan

sorry guys, it was on page 3, didnt get that far

LFS Team Website Hosting
Lola Popeye
S2 licensed
Hi guys, first of all I apologise if you consider this as shameless advertising, if so I am sure a mod/admin will do their job!

LFS is obviously growing, and along with that there is many new teams popping up, who might need a webby to call their home, as well as the lots of estabilished teams, who are living off popup ridden free web sites.

Now, I confess I am not an angel, and I am not doing this as an act of charity, but what I will do is offer hosting at what it costs me (meaning I make little or no profit), I guess its my way of giving something to the community without errr....losing something .

Heres a rough deal, im sure we can negotiate something!

100mb Webspace
3gb Transfer
Unlimited Emails, Mysql databases, Ftp accounts, Cpanel and much much more (haha so cliche!)

I will offer this for $30 for 6 months, and $50 for a whole year, and includes a domain name!

I am not sure if its a good deal to you guys, but to me it looks fair. Sure, you can go for sum massive 100gb plan, but i think this is sufficient for most team needs, if not, like I said we'll work something out! Also, this includes leagues as well

I am also willing to install popular forums like Invision, phpBB and Vbulletin free of charge, and it should take no more than a day!

As for payment, direct deposit, paypal, errr cash too

I will be creating a website for this soon, but for now you give me a PM, or leave a message here if your interested, OR email me at [email protected]

The server is located in US, but i dont think its much of a problem for you euros, you can test the speed on this site, which is hosted on that server - www.sccabco.com

Well that does it for me, again im sorry if this is considered unappropiate.

Chensta

EDIT:

Just some calculations for fun:

.com,.org,.net Domain usually goes for around $10
So that ends up being $20 for 6 months of hosting which is $3.33 per month.

Quote from NotAnIllusion :Yea as long as each individual person keeps the time on the PC 'reasonable', I don't see why this advisory would hamper the attempt!

i think 2 hours is safe, and not dangerous, but will require alot of organisation and i think this could be publicized very well, for being 'smart' gaming, ie set an example on how you can enjoy a game for long periods of time without risking your health etc, we can even make the news

from Guiness WR site Is it a Record? Unfortunately because video game manufacturers themselves advise against playing games for extended periods, we are unwilling to consider any records for computer game playing ‘marathons’ (i.e. records based on playing for the longest time non-stop).

yea, scawen has a very good point here, many of you dont realise how dangerous sum of the guiness WR stunts are, ofcourse they never actually publish all the failed attempts, including these which are perhaps fatal. I think it is possible for a long long race, in a LAN (no d/c's), ie 10 drivers doing it non-stop for 1 whole month, or 1 week :P
