Quote from wien :If what Microsoft came up with actually was better than what the "drunken lemurs" at the W3C (which includes Microsoft BTW) came up with, I'd agree with you.

to be fair i dont know nearly enough to make a fair judegement if what ie doeas actually works better or not but the fact remains that its daft to insist that opera is doing everything perfectly fine and its everybody elses fault that lots of pages are broken when they display just fine on the vast majority of machines surfing the web

Quote :And I'd love to see some of these implementation problems you allude to.

it has nothing to do with the internet but in case you care to look it up... i doubt anyone whos ever had the misfortune to build a fully functional iso 14443-a tag still thinks that standadisation is done by people who have an idea of what theyre doing

Shotglass is right, IE is the real standard because of its install base. As much as developers might hate hacking around its bodges and mistakes its a fact of life.

MS also killed much of the credibility of ISO recently when it managed to purchased an ISO standard for OOXML. At least it looks like they have been forced into ODF which might kill OOXML in the end.

Back to Chrome. At least Google have backed down from the EULA and will release a new one shortly. They are leaving the ability to send whatever you type into the nav bar to google for storage and profile building though, so Chrome is a way to track your every move without the need for deep packet inspection at ISP level. This coupled with their analyitics system and they have covered 100%

That is the final nail for me.

BTW: Their EULA was not worth crap anyway as you can take the source and build without agreement with the EULA. No way they could enforce it IMHO.
I'm actually finding Firefox still loads pages slightly faster than Chrome. Will probably stick with Firefox.

also couldn't find an option to not use tabs. I'm prolly one of the few who doesn't like tabs.

same here, thats why im not using IE7 as well. If i remember correctly, its possible to turn this function off (at IE7) but i still prefer the good old 6.0 over that Netscape clone
(and as long as the tab function cant be turned off, i wont get this google thingy)

Whats so good about FF anyway? Maybe i should give that one a go some day..
Quote from LFSn00b :EDIT: A LOT FASTER on youtube for me in GC than FF.

Actually I'm not a tiny bit surprised by that. Since YouTube is owned by Google, they might just give their browser preferred treatment. I wonder if you get a performance boost in FF if you set your browser signature to Chrome's

Plugins, like AdBlock; and it's quite a lot safer than IE6 (does IE still run JavaScripts in images?)
Well, they've changed the EULA - http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html
Apparently it was just bodged together from other ones and contained irrelavant parts.

The thing about the omnibox sending your keystrokes...
This only is the case if you have 'Suggest whilst typing' turned on, and it sends the data to whoever you have set as the search provider, so not necessarily Google themselves.
I've read that the suggest feature of IE8 will pretty much do the same thing.
Quote from Bean0 :I've read that the suggest feature of IE8 will pretty much do the same thing.

Seems like the latest effort by Mozilla, called Ubiquity, will be moving pretty much in the same direction, only it will likely collect stuff from multiple search providers.

i couldnt be arsed to look for a different test before but happily one of the websites i read regularly (and trust when it comes to testing) just did one
http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3398&p=4
i know it doesnt include opera however according to your source ie7 should be the slowest across the board when in fact it is the fastest on all but 2 sites which means that one of those test must be wrong or skewed in one direction and id rather trust anand on this who did test on a much wider variety of sites
admitedly this doesnt answer the question whether or not opera is in fact the fastest but it certainly shows that your link is biased and untrustworthy
Quote from Dajmin :I love Opera. However, at work I can't install it because I have no admin privs. Whereas Chrome will install just fine

You don't need no admin privileges to install opera, it just gives you these damn errors when you try to install it, but it works 100% fine for me.

It's something to do with Vista wizardry that it needs the registry.
After trying it out for a couple of days, I've got to say I like the UI being minimal by default. It's fast too, very fast. Unfortunately it keeled over and froze on the first site with multiple Flash objects and other crap. Even though that's really down to my current beige-box having been out-of-date 5 years ago, easy access to NoScript and AdBlock in Firefox made browsing passable. At the moment though, Chrome is unusable as much as I like the speed.
Yeah, it fell over on me when i was watching something on youtube in full screen mode. It was ok as long as i clicked the small x to get the video back to normal size but if i pressed escape, or the windows key (which also returns it to normal size) then it dies every time. Just a small problem i suppose, it is a pain if im watching something long that is over multiple videos, as i was watching part 4 of 5 of something and i had to ctrl alt del and kill it and start all over again.
i heard google chrome is sending informations about your datas on your comp to google without letting you know
They be on ma computer, stealin ma internetz!

The middle mouse button also doesn't work in Chrome. And it still isn't any faster than Firefox. It's all a placebo Plus Firefox has literally tons of addons available. And it doesn't have a home button. And there's no search bar in the top right for easy searching. Chrome must be only in it for the lulz, it's surely not a serious browser...
Hmmm I don't like it. Mozilla has more plugins, Chrome doesn't. And it's NOT faster...
Using it right now, and I'm impressed...will wait for a final release before using it as my default web browser. Frikkin' fast.

But you can search using your designated search engine by entering the search terms in the address bar (which is bigger than the dedicated search bars )

Writing this on Chrome.

The text is so small it makes my eyes hurt.
If opera would make an user interface like this minimalistic user interface possible, I would be very happy.

Back to Opera now.

Sorry to quote myself, but you can make Opera look like you want basically. You can almost remove any element by right clicking on it.

...and you can for example google if you type 'g' and a space followed by the search phrase, an 'e' would search on ebay.
According to my newspaper from friday Chrome starts sending data to Google even if you haven't started it yet.

Hope it's not the (in)famous Bild...
Quote from Vykos69 :typing this in chrome, and am amazed about the speed.

amazed about the ability of the browser to call home?

watch out! google spying.
Honestly, google can have all the porn site addresses I go to.
so is it safe to use google chrome? lol
Quote from G!NhO :so is it safe to use google chrome? lol
