The online racing simulator
long time without rally makes me do strange things.

Onwurds!
Long time no see. My house went under renovation so I've been more or less homeless and crashing on people's sofas and floors from end of April. Internet access and computer time have been in the pre 90's figures for me. Been photographing a lot though so I'll try to raise my Flickr up from the dead from this day on and uploading shots from the past months.

that is one nasty and vicious beast!!!
Like always, really random stuff.

At least there's a local rally coming up in a few days, hopefully will get some better shots there.
Those are good dude
What macro lens do you have?
Or is just crops or anything
No crops, just my Sigma 70-300 1:4-5.6 DG Macro.
max. magnification:
1:4 macro(1:2)
I've got BigBeercan - Minolta 75-300 with the same aperture but it doesn't have this big magnification.
max. magnification:
1/3.84
I've nearly never used it. But I think I should.
Edit:
It weight too much (weight:865 g)
Just Uploaded 80 pics from weekend Fort William MTB World Cup on Flickr will post a few i like and link you to the rest hope you like .

Just a little edit in lightroom and some big crop's as good spots where few and far between any comments welcome

From March-April or so. This year's Vappu was a rainy and gray one compared to last year.

We got asked to babysit a nest of puppy's yesterday.
Quite hard to photograph, as they're so active.

And after attacking me..

It's back to sleep.

Quote from spankmeyer :Very cool shot!

Indeed.. currently my desktop background (I assume that's ok with you Don? :schwitz

So I took some pictures at Silverstone (yes, there are better places to take pictures :rolleyes the weekend before last. Having to somehow manage with an 18-55mm kit lens combined with cropping to get a somewhat reasonable shot (somewhat reasonable being bloody awful in the general scheme of things), I decided that sooner or later I'd be best off getting a telephoto lens.

If anybody could recommend a (reasonably) good budget lens (budget being around £300 give or take a few quid) for a Canon DSLR, this would be most useful. I know £300 won't get me anything too spectacular, but I'm interested to know what would the best options in terms of image quality and general value for money. And would it be a good idea to consider used lenses? (DWB having said that he buys many of his lenses used (iirc)).

Thanks

Some unplanned promo stuff for a local band. Story behind the shot at my Flickr if someone's interested.
This morning I had some fun - I taped over my LCD screen and set the stopwatch for 10 minutes and ran about the beach trying to get the best photos I could. I tried to focus on the wood texture of the groyne and the sand.

The rules of the photoshoot:

Checking your LCD is forbidden - trust your exposure.
Use an external lightmeter - I used a 50 year old manual one.
36 shutter presses maximum!
If your hardcore you have to wait 24 hours before you can look at your photos - I'm far too impatient though.
Primitive darkroom techniques only in photoshop, however I admit to doing some sharpening on these.

Its actually brilliant fun, you get some great images and I've found that my keeper rate was a lot higher than usual because I was taking much more care when taking each photo.

get canon 70-200/f4L non is, an used one would prolly cost a little more than 300 quids, but you can't go wrong with that lens. you don't want to end up getting some sigma lens for 250 and few years later buying an L lens anyway...

Is there anything wrong with the IS version of this lens, out of interest? I've seen this which looks good value (assuming it actually is in good condition). It's bound to go up in price quite a bit though (£281 currently)

I'm guessing you recommended non-IS simply because it's cheaper?

Thanks for the advice, btw

If you can afford the IS version - don't get it.. Get the F/2.8 non-IS instead. You get your low light performance and a nice F/2.8 to play with. Many regard the 70-200 as a perfect portrait lens - especially the Canon L twins. You'll see more wedding photographers with this lens than you'll see without.

They do, but when I don't have a film camera.......
Found an old magnifying lens, taped it on the A50 1.7 and tried it out.
