I've spent most of the day reading through and doing some beginner JS tutorials, and I don't feel like I've made any progress at all However, just now I installed Visual Studio and created a simple calculator (following a tutorial) in a matter of minutes. VS looks promising, I will experiment some more with it, as it does seem to be easier than JavaScript.

Thanks for all the replies!

@Bose - after consulting with a friend, he suggested Python instead of the HTML/PHP/SQL trinity. So many choices, so little time

@Dustin - I'll get back to you.

@Kristi - I already have it all in an Excel sheet, but my task is to create a software solution.

@Gutholz - I actually like the idea, but it will get way too cluttered/cumbersome to input all the needed data - tens of rooms, with multiple windows, then the light sources and their parameters.

Thanks again, for now I'll harass Dustin for JS guidance :P

I have some programming experience with C, but not that much :/ To be honest I thought creating an interactive website would be easier than coding an app. I am not looking for anything fancy really, functionality is more important, and as the deadline approaches rapidly, I am willing to throw myself at anything. ^^
I do realize that I've started taking this seriously way too late, so I might have to skip a year cause of this. But it's all right, for now I want to take my best shot at this and see where it goes.

Greetings!
For my masters thesis I have to design a software for the energy certification of buildings, more specifically for the lighting system. I think a web-app/website would suffice, but as I lack the necessary skills, I would like to ask here for guidance.

The certification is really just about processing lots of input data. This is done by using some equations and also pre-determined data arranged in tables. Another student is doing a similar assignment, but in Microsoft Excel, and he was kind enough to share his excel document.

On this screenshot I highlighted stuff like selecting the building type from a drop-down list, which then alters the selection appearing in the other drop-down menu - where you can select different room types for the given building type. The colour coding is - yellow to select items from a drop-down menu, orange to input data manually (mostly geometrical dimensions), and the values in the grey field get calculated automatically. On the right side you can see another sheet with some of the pre-determined data.

So the question is, where do I start? Any and all help is appreciated, thank you in advance!

Quote from The Very End :Can someone be assed to write what good laptimes on the different tracks and cars is? Need to have something to reach forr and know if I suck as much as I fear

The trending combo at #liveforspeed has been the 458 at Silverstone, with 1.11.9x by Huru on semi-slicks, and 1.12.3x (afaik) on road tires. Others will post the rest I am sure (or update me on these times ^^ )

To be honest, there isn't a lot of settings you can turn down Running 16xAF+2xAA, very low shadow resolution, HDR and motion blur disabled (because I dont like them), Cubemap resolution set to Low (this is the real killer for performance), "Faces per Frame" set to 1. This way I get around 120FPS. That 7970 should be more than enough for the game

Does somone run smthing like this?
wondering can i run stabile 80+fps ...

Same config, but running the game at 1920*1200 - I get anything between 100-200 FPS, with everything turned down to low/off (who needs eye candy, right?). It still looks more than decent tho! ^^

I am in the process of replacing the 6870 with a 7870XT - I tried the tech.prev. with the 7870, and it was able to produce playable framerate with all things maxed out! ^^ Unfortunately I had to RMA the card, so for the time being I'm back to the 6870.

If you like your games story driven, then there is Gemini Rue, To the moon, and "Home" (pixel-art "horror" adventure game - but not that "horrorful").
I also liked Deadlight, but this one is out for the consoles too, so you might know it already.

@cargame - I think the core of the community is very mature and they will still be around when an update comes. Just because most are silent doesn't mean they _completely_ abandoned LFS with passionate hate towards the develop(ment speed)ers.

@cargame - LFS isn't exactly mainstream, and I think that people now and in the future will always find out about LFS in their search for the most realistic racing sim. The current community might die off, but I am sure new blood will flow in (as it still does).

@tve - I feel you, yet I think that what we say here still has an impact - in the recent years a negative one perhaps (I mean the discouraging posts - angry demands and so). Of course I'd like to know more about the work behind the curtains, but sadly it is not possible now, so we wait :P (now that the end of the world has been postponed indefinitely, we can wait some more ^^)

@tve - " don't care about us anymore." If that were true he wouldn't had been (grammar?) working on the tire physics all these years. All we can do is keep holding on, imho.

Recently I've spent a lot of time playing Shift 2 Unleashed, and with a steering mod (not sure about the version, but it made the game enjoyable) it's good fun, nothing like LFS, but it's a good arcade with nice tracks and even nicer cars.

What I would like to know is, how does Project CARS compare to Shift 2? Is the highly distracting "collision grey-screen" present? What about collision stuttering? Shift 2 becomes unplayable when any collision occurs (confirmed on the nogrip forums, haven't found a fix for it yet).

I'll probably buy the 10€ package soon, but I'd still like to hear from somebody who played Shift 2.
Thanks in advance!

After looking at some benchmark charts on toms hardware it's clear that ultra settings are meant for 2 or more GPU setups :P or very low resolutions or 700€ graphics cards :O

Be more specific, please. What do you mean by "outperform"?

I'm sure a set of stereo studio speakers for the same price (~ €350) would be miles better for listening to music, but I also seriously doubt they would "rock the house", so to speak. One set outperforming another can mean a lot of things. Comparing Hi-F/studio equipment to PC speakers is pointless, imho, as they are aimed at different markets. I hope to get a nice set of Hi-Fi equipment at some point in my life, as of yet I'm not in a position to afford one that would really stand out.

@whiskey
You'll find good speakers for €80, you'll find better for €120, etc. The more you spend the better it'll get, the hard part is getting the _best_ for your budget.

He didn't use the word decent in his post, perhaps you should read twice, too. ;]

Not everybody has a 1000 euros to spend on audio equipment. Logitech provides good quality for the price (and by quality I mean 500 watts, and by price I mean cheap compared to other equipment with comparable specifications).

80-100€ is well enough for casual movies/games/music, imho.
If you'll be listening to music mainly @ low volumes, then a 2.1 or even a simple stereo set (for example "Edifier Studio R1600T-plus 2.0 System - black" or " Creative GigaWorks T40 II. HiFi 2.0 28W" or "Genius repro SP-HF 2020 wood 60W") will suffice.
If you are more into gaming/movies, get any 5.1 set that fits your budget and gets good recommendations in reviews around the internet.

The bottom line is, you have to try out some of those "cheap" 5.1 sets because you may be surprised how much you can get for "little money".

He can get a 5.1 PC speaker set for half of that
I've read good things about Edifier speakers, you can get the "Edifier Multimedia System M1550 - black" for around 60 euros, but if you want something better for 80 euros, and surround sound isn't important, I'd get a 2.1 set from Edifier. I know you've asked for 5.1 speaker set recommendation, but if you ain't gonna use the surround sound that much then I think a good sounding 2.1 system would be better for you.
If you really want to save money, go for some cheap-ass Genius 5.1 system :P

I myself have recently upgraded from a first-gen Hercules XPS2.100 (2.1) to a Logitech Z-5500 (5.1) - the difference is massive :O
