Can't say that i have much to add to this thread, but i can say i've enjoyed reading it thoroughly. Makes me smile to see lots of old names holding a mature conversation on these forums (a seemingly rare occurance of late).

I will be watching intently to see what can come out of this discussion, as it seems to be the group of like-minded people who brought me to LFS way back when.

Hopes for a quick recovery. Apparently, motorist's lack of attention/awareness towards bicyclist/motorcyclist is universally lacking. I'm glad Webber got away as he did.

Please be careful out there, share the road, and watch for bikers.

@ DP - Any idea when we could learn more about the Atom-esque Two seater you have generated? It looks awesome too.

The alternate Body for the DP1 is interesting, but not as appealing to me. The 95% cost you mention is interesting, is that mainly if you produced a new mold for the body? I remember that the mold cost was a pretty extreme first cost.

Quote from KSheppard :AutoCAD for Architecture, get with the times hippe and take a look at Revit Architecture (still Autodesk - well they bought it anyway)

Revit for MEP is about as useful as a poopy flavored lollipop . It's unintuitive, overly complicated, and in some cases (plumbing) just doesn't work. No wonder Architect types love it. It would be appreciated if you didn't mentioned the name Revit ever again, or at least for a couple of years until it is usable. Thanks.

The DP1 has been spotlighted in by SolidWorks (the CAD program used in the design of the DP1).

Interesting notes there to those who read through the article about what the future of Palatov motorsports might hold! Electric?

Quote from AlienT. :I've got to say the Legends at Infineon is the best fun to drive that I've ever had in any Sim. Using the H-shifter and clutch it's bleedin great fun. I wish there was a series in the sim for forcing the use h-shifter and clutch. Unfortunately for me this method is at least a second or two a lap slower than using sequential with no clutch so I'm only using it when playing around.

Anyway I'm off to Knockhill today to watch the Scotish Legends in action for real....in the wet it should be interesting

Have a good time at Knockhill.

The real Legends cars are sequential btw, so it would be ill-informed to try and force that...

Quote from JCTK :well, that depends on how you define wets, Hamilton was on another planet at the wet race in Monaco and Silverston. He was at least 1sec a lap quicker than everyone else.

At the cost of hitting the wall and blowing a tire, a mistake that would have ended a F1 driver's race 99% of the time. He got lucky, that's it. How many other F1 drivers have smashed off a wall at Monaco and continued on to the win? He's young, eager, and doesn't know any better.

I really believe the Bourdais pentalty to be bogus, but...

Devil's Advocate: Isn't there a great big blinking blue light at the end of the pit lane?

Quote from richo :The amount of waste from every team developing the same systems is retarded, there should be more common parts and electronics shared even if its at pit lane level .

I love the diversity of F1 , it makes F1 what it is but surely the sub systems the public eye dont see can be shared .

I will play the role of the dissenter and disagree here. This is Formula One here! The best cars in the world with the best drivers.

The very essence is that Every part of the car is the highest level of cutting-edge technology. That's what's enabled F1 to be the technological force behind a multitude of road car innovations throughout the history of the sport.

It's the spaying and neutering of the technological advances [normal aspiration only, banning continuously variable transmissions, banning "instantaneous" gear changes (however Honda achieved that), outlawing underbody aerodynamic devices] that has made the sport less-and-less relevant to the over-the-road motor car.

The cost isn't the problem here, it is the lack of advances forwards. The engineers should be allowed to engineer, and create the next inovations that will make all of our lives better.

I welcome KERS and love to see future regulations leaning towards encouraging efficiency as well.

Quote from Jakg :Yarrr - 580w Hiper Type-R was on it's last legs so I've upgraded to an FSP 700w PSU - slightly more efficient, and great for £28 delivered!

How'd you score such a sick deal on that?

I managed to get a E8400 E0 for $139 a few weeks ago, got a new bios and clicked it to 3.6ghz. Don't know why I stopped there...

Actually I do. Been busy with work and learning about triathlons, so haven't been on the pc too much. :shrugs:

Initially, I was hoping for the upcoming grassroots popular BMW Spec E30 series, but that probably is too similar to the Solstice. (Plus E30 is NASA I believe, iRacing is SCCA)

I think a GT3-cup car could be a good addition, but secretly I'm hoping for the BTCC Volo 850 wagon.

A Caterham R400 would be terrific too.

BTW, GrassrootsMotorsports Magazine has an article about iRacing in it this month. I've not yet seen it firsthand, but my friend says there is a screen shot where I'm leading the writer

Quote from Quint999 :ta, yes sorry seen that as well, i was thinking something more of a progression between Solstice to say the Riley, i can imagine the Riley ( or Radical etc ) are an absolute blast to drive , but slow old uns like me would probably prefer something inbetween

Dont know what the spec racer will be like, for whatever reason it looks suggest a very lively little car and we already have the skippy for those with strong forearms.

I actually dont mind the Skippy , but it takes me most of the week to be able to keep the bloody thing on that weeks track & feel comfortable , let alone race. Theres a few tracks i really got to grips with , but others just kill my SR . I've given up on LRP chicane this week after many a backwards slide up that damm hill.

I'd like something that isnt open wheeler and isnt insanely powerfull i guess.

There's a Spec Racer "coming soon". Should be like this:

Quote from Hyperactive :I am probably the only one who thinks that some corners of the tilke tracks are really great. No matter how artificial they are they still provide good racing and passing opportunities, something the older tracks really struggle with. Still I'd like Tilke to keep his hands off of few tracks though

Hmm. We will agree to disagree then.

Quote from Shotglass :i find your lack of syntax knowledge disturbing

Hahaha, duh (shakes out programing cobwebs), so more like...

if(Racing != Exciting && track == flat && runoff >= 1000m)
then(TrackDesigner = Tilke);

cout << "hello world!";

end;

Quote from samjh :In mathematics, you write = with a / across the middle. Hence =/=.

In some programming languages, such as those similar in syntax to C and C++, you use !=. Different programming languages have different syntax for "not equals": Ada uses /=, Pascal uses <>, etc.

Anyway! Back on topic, please.

Ah, duh, I was reading it as 3 seperate characters, not the '=' with the '/' in it.

Onwards to a great new race!

No, it's a fact.

Quote from DevilDare :if i am correct there are no more spare cars allowed this season, crash at start means race over for you. Correct if wrong

You are correct, I just remember it as entertaining (as long as no-one was hurt in the incident leading to the red flag).

Was the big Spa crash the last F1 race to be Red Flagged at the start? I was trying to find this but haven't been able to find a list of red flagged F1 starts. It used to be entertaining seeing the crews prepping the spare car, driver jogging back up to the pit-lane.

Is it just me, or by and large, the modern F1 racers/races have seen much less T1 drama than the mid-late 90's?

As frustrating as the SR can be at times, it really does (finally) have an impact on how people treat the "game".

The SR puts a realism on it, you can be the fastest one out there, but if you destroy cars with Any regularity you really won't succeed.

Quote from Mattesa :If they do include Mosport with all the configurations, most importantly the Driver Development Track, then I will subscribe because I'll actually be able to use the software for what it is supposedly intended: driver training.

So if they include Mosport and the DDT, I'll be able to do two big big big things:
1) I can learn the track for the track days there.
2)*** Having learned the track, judge how realistic iRacing is.

***This is the one that really matters. I'll gladly pay for the chance the compare the sim to reality first hand. Pay for the chance to praise it, or rip it to utter shreds.

I feel the same way about Road Atlanta (except that I'm already subscribed). Truth be told, I haven't heard many first hand accounts of track realism yet.

Quote from SamH :I think first impressions are valid.

I agree, but in this case there is quite a bit of depth under the surface. If the tracks and FFB don't sell you initially, iRacing is a hard sell. Having driven a Legends car before, the first time the G25 pulled the wheel from my hands going over a bump I was sold, it was that real. While some people are bound to agree with the OP, my friend put it best, "If you enjoy LFS and want to keep it that way, do Not buy a month trial of iRacing." Simply put, the FFB and Tracks offer something different to LFS. Some may not like it, but to some it is just what they've been waiting/hoping for.

Quote from SamH :I concur. You should know what it is that you're spending on. I'm assuming that the site does not mislead (I haven't got as far as subscribing, and seeing the available options) and that it's clear which content you're buying into.. then content is not something you can complain about. If it was enough to get you to make the $20 transaction then you've effectively indicated that it's $20-worth of content by making the transaction.

My main iRacing complaint at this time. You cannot try a car before you buy it. I was looking forward to the skippy, so I bought it. Had I driven it a few times, I probably would have held out for the Formula Mazda, Radical, Late Model, or the forthcoming Spec Racer. (Edit -> Due to the fact I bought a year subscription, I actually didn't "buy" it. I got the Skippy, Formula Mazda, Infineon Raceway, and VIR all included)

Quote from Doorman :Get a piece of nonslip matting(looks like very small netting) to put between the wheel and the table. You know, the sort of stuff you put under carpets on a laminated or wood floor. You'll never pull your wheel off the table again!

QFT, this is a race-saver. I use rubber cabinet liner.

I see what you're talking about in the video. TBH, I hadn't put my finger on it, but felt something was "off" when watching some of the skippy videos.

I'd very much like that brought up in the iRacing forums.

Congrats Tristan! Sorry to see it end that way, but a championship is a championship. It really is great to see someone we can all relate to through sims & LFS, really going out there and going after it in such an interesting series.

Best of luck with the repairs, I'm quite interested in seeing the new car and comparisons of the driving experiences.

Quote from Michael Denham :How do you know they haven't made progress with these cars? Are you part of the development team? For all we know they could be released next week...

They haven't progressed from the "coming soon" part of the news page.

Surely they're being developed, but their status hasn't changed for as long as I've known of the car news page.
