noone else wants to say something? why is it that my posts never get much attention, am I just being stupid?

But still it would be more efficient to spend the time adjusting your driving style, no? At least in the long run I'd say. Of course you'll get faster faster with a different set, but then you'll hit a 'barrier' at some point because the car just can't go faster. And then you'll need to get closer to that 'perfect' set and learn to drive it anyway if you want to improve further.

yeah but is it really worth sacrificing the car's potential just for your personal preference?
own setup or better driving?

hi!

After a few months of absence i want to get back to LFS, but not just for a few fun races... Instead i'd like to do it 'real'.
What I mean is that I also want to start making my own setups and really understand what me and the car are doing when on a track.

But somehow I've always wondered if making your own setup is really that beneficial for becoming faster, because I think that there's always a 'perfect' setup for any car/track and that ultimately, you'd get better if you just learned to drive with that 'perfect' setup instead of making it 'worse' just so you can handle the car at the limit. I think this is especially true for simulations since you can't get hurt, so you don't need an 'easier' setup for safety reasons.

I guess it's probably just a 'type' thing - some prefer track time to improve their driving, some like to spend their time in the garage fiddling with the setup...

So what do you think? Is any way 'better' than the other? What would your advice be to someone who doesn't know what 'type' he is?

Learning from AI?

I was just practicing with the LX4 on AS Club Rev, getting a 1:12.81 at best and using the current WR (1:12.44 by DaveWS) as reference, when I said to myself "well let's see what the AI can do" and as a result was very surprised. Within 5 laps and still on semi-cold tyres the AI did a 1:12.09, so I guess a high 1:11.xx would easily be possible for them.

But it's just a weird feeling to learn from a computer instead of a human being... So, does anybody actually prefer the new AI over hotlaps by other drivers? Would it even be possible for a human to drive like the AI? Or am I just totally stupid and slow?

very nice tool, but there seems to be a bug: after watching a race I always have to turn off the director and start it again or it won't work in the next replay/race - camera just sits there in shift-u mode but doesn't do anything

also, to me it seems like it doesn't recognize a single car spinning or sliding, it only focusses on overtakes and cars touching, but i might be wrong there

other than that, great app

really great to hear that you're still so enthusiastic about LFS
somehow, every time i read about someone complaining or being impatient, i'm getting really afraid you might some day get too annoyed with it and quit development of LFS
but now i'm more than ever looking forward to another couple years of LFS-update-joyness

DFP brake stuck

hi everyone, sorry if this has been posted before but i couldnt find anything after a quick search, so here goes:
apart from the 'usual' pedal problems which i always managed to solve by opening the pedals and cleaning them from dirt, i'm now getting a strange problem that seems to reoccur more and more often.

it seems that sometimes, movement of the brake pedal is only recognized by the pc, when the accelerator pedal is also moving at the same time.
like, when i constantly press and depress the accel, then the brakes work.. but as soon as i stop pressing the accel, the brakes get 'stuck' immediately... i cann still move the pedal, but the pc doesn't seem to receive any information from that, neither lfs nor dxtweak nor logi profiler or anything

the thing is, i don't think it has something to do with the pots as i've fixed both of them to the frame with superglue and cleaned them from dirt... and even if i hadn't done that, how could dirt in one pot affect the other one? to me it sounds more like a software issue or maybe something with the circuit board or the connectors?

this problem only seems to happen in 'phases', like it works for days without any problem and then when it happens there's just nothing i can do until it magically works again

any ideas?

I think it's either

night racing (wouldn't be the first time that the devs surprise us)
or
wheather effects (that pic of blackwood sure looks foggy)
or
red/yellow flags (the wikipedia entry saying "In Roman mythology a Genius loci was the protective spirit of a place" would fit)

yes, sort by rating is a good idea.

but still, I think the movies don't get the public attention (outside the LFS community) they should. would be good marketing for the game imho

how about starting a big poll where everyone can vote for his favorite LFS S1/S2 movie?
it sure would be nice for everyone to have all the links to all the really cool poductions this community has created, wouldn't it?

and maybe the one with the most votes will be used as the official LFS intro movie tbh i find the lonely XRR going round blackwood quite boring, especially when starting LFS for the first time as graphics settings are turned down to ensure compatibility - not a good first impression

maybe there's already a list somewhere but it should definately be a sticky in here, imho

Screen Res > 1024 x 768 -> turn Screen Side affects LOD off
Screen Res < 1024 x 768 -> turn Screen Side affects LOD on

so if I run in 1600x1200 (which I always do) and turn screen width affects LOD OFF it should be good, which it isn't.

Quote from tristancliffe :Buy a better computer - it's making the wheels go hexagonal (or is it octagonal?) because you're frame rate is suffuring...

i never have less than 40 fps and even if I would, the game shouldnt decrease LOD if I have all those options turned off/at the max

'screen width affects LOD' is off, dynamic lod reduction is 0, user lod is 1.0

here's what I mean... and LOD is at max. this is really the only graphics issue i'd like to be improved soon, everything else can wait til S3

everything is at max and you only notice it from TV cam... i'll try to take a screenie
reduced (tyre) lod degradation
ZeroDexter
S2 licensed
I would really like a little less LOD degradation, especially on the tyres. (I believe I one saw someone mentioning this but I couldnt find a related thread during a quick search...)
LOD of other objects like cars is good imho, only the tyres look like squares way too much.

I think this should be very easy to do and people with slower pcs can still turn it down so there shouldn't be any reason to have square wheels in a game nowadays
