Quote from andybarsblade :ok i'll try to answer it but im no expert, abs is a very simple operation...
a simple on off switch like abs

what the geeks on here want to class as a computer and what i would class as a computer are clearly different things.

I think I understand what you're trying to say. Kind of like how carnivorous plants move to capture pray, but you can't consider them sentient life forms. And I was ready agree with you that ABS uses some simple logic that works on some kind of reflex (locked wheel = release then reapply) until I took a quick look at ABS on Wiki:

Quote from wiki :...This is the obvious main task of the entire ABS-system. Apart from this, the software also needs to process the incoming information, e.g. the signals from the sensors.

^ So there is software in the ABS system, there is some algorithm and some computation involved, even if it doesn't pass through the ECU. It's not a simple logic reflex system, it's algorithmic logic, and I think that qualifies it as being some sort of computer.
Precisely - if it applied the ABS whenever wheelspeed = 0, then stopping at traffic lights would be a pain in the wotsit.

Sorry Andy. To quote you, "im just telling you how it is, not trying to bs people and make things sound more complicated than they really are", but I'm doing it not you. ABS sounds complicated because, once you've got passed the car handbook, it is. Very. No bullshit here (regarding the ABS), and I'm telling you how it is, not how you think it is.
come on dont be silly its simply a case of if a wheelspeed reads 0 but the cars speed/other wheel speeds arent 0 it activates now i personally dont read that as a complicated process such as active stability management but if you want to just to be arsey then thats up to you dont be such a nerd about it
Well I'm sort of responsible for starting this entire argument about 100 posts ago I didn't intend for it to escalate like this. My original post was on topic. I don't really care if an evo is computer controlled or if it's the fastest thing on 4 wheels.

Fact: The S2000 is a great track car out of the box
Fact: The Evo is a great track car out of the box
Fact: The Miata is a great (cheap) track car out of the box

We all might have our own opinions of which car we'd rather drive and that's perfectly understandable. The miata is popular in the US because it's extremely cheap, easy to maintain and repair - not necessarily because it's fast. I've never participated in a spec miata race but I've seen a couple live at Lime Rock. As a spectator they're much more fun to watch than Formula Ford or Speed GT due to the large fields and close racing. I don't know about you, but I'd prefer a close race in LFS over one that feels like a qualifying session any day.

The S2000 is a great track car. Is it the fastest? No. Is the evo the fastest? No. They're two entirely different cars. Are we lacking proper sports cars (lightweight FR - excluding LX's) and proper rally cars in LFS? Yes! Would cars with the similar physics make great additions to LFS? Yes! Would the devs time be better modeling older cars or more tracks? Hell I don't know. That's not what this thread was about.
Anyone else getting completely bored with this thread?

Plus tristan will argue with you till 2012 so give up
Quote from pearcy_2k7 :tristan will argue with you till 2012 so give up

When he's right he won't concede. Why should he? I respect that.
and he's right because you say he is? oh ok then, just go back to the world vs redline arguments again they made more sense?

anyway on topic yes i agree a car like a s2000/mx5 would be a good addition
Quote from SamH :When he's right he won't concede. Why should he? I respect that.

Right about what??? - MX5's are sh1T......

And because thats my opinion - its right - using that mentality.....
Quote from tristancliffe :Apart from karts that cost more to run per race than my car cost to buy, yes, they are slower. Name a kart I can afford to race that does more than 120mph? And boring in the sense of mechanical interest - it's so simple that it wouldn't hold my interest for more than a few minutes really.

tristian if you think going 120 makes a car fun why not just go book a cheap flight you can do 500mph ohhhh what fun.

how you can say karts are boring and slow has me baffled? i thought you raced cars? or do you just go round tracks till the flag comes out then bring it in polish it make some little setup changes that you think will make you faster then go out again? karts are awesome fun no question
Ah i didn't read the posts, im not clued up enough on things like that to say if he is right or wrong but i was guessing hes right, as he is rarely wrong

Karts are slow though, compared to what he races, even i find them slow and dull unless there s a big group of you playing ram the guy in 1st place
Quote from tristancliffe :ABS can be mechanically operated, but it hasn't been since about 1975 (plus or minus a few years).

quite a few years actually tris, ford brought out the mk4 escort with abs which was a bloody awfull belt driven system on the front driveshafts and a simple load valve on the rear brakes. it also had a nasty habit of snapping belts and giving the driver the fun of a lottery as to if the brakes would fail into a working or non working condition, quite funny especially as it they started to fail on the press launch. all in all not the greatest breakthrough in road safety, and it didnt last long.

even more laughable was a certain "jap" manyufacturer who claimed ttheir brakes were designed to help prevent your wheels from locking which sounds like abs but in fact was just the usual brake load valve

Oh boohoo, andy. I spend most of my time trying to work out how you can possibly be old enough to drive, let alone know anything about engineering.

Actually, Tristan started being right by default, as soon as you started chucking personal insults at people. Empty pots make the loudest noise. Tristan is just one of those people who isn't bullied by people shouting at him. Neither are many people around here, actually, which is why I think you're so much in direct conflict on this forum so much of the time.
funny how you only piped up as soon as the world redline and ban was in the same post, did i insult tristan no, did i insult some one who insulted me first yes. have you just insulted me? yes

just another pointless off topic post from samh
No, andy, I haven't just insulted you. If I wanted to insult you, I've a selection of words to pick from that I could pitch at you that would leave everyone nodding like the Churchill advert dog.

I'm simply observing and communicating my genuine and heartfelt thought.
how clever, what a witty retort. wow i dont know what to say now im stunned
Please Sam change that avatar, ive spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what it says when it flashes, still don't know

Andy, you know i have respect for redline and it's members but give it a rest, your getting yourself nowhere and making yourself look like a child.
Quote from niall09 :Yes you did, his name is Tristan

opppss ok sorry about that (edited)
hehe.. mebbe I'll bring my next avatar forward a bit
Quote from pearcy_2k7 :Please Sam change that avatar, ive spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what it says when it flashes, still don't know

I think it said "CompuTeamRaceAuthority"

You, sir, are correct

ty!

Closer look..

Yes, I'd be happy if we got *some* updated models.. but I don't think I'd be happy to lose the old ones. I'd really like to see the edges of the FXO rounded a bit, but I think Jakg would hunt me down and remove my lungs with a spoon if Eric did it.
Sam - if you spent as much time on the CTRA stuff in game than you do on the logos/avatars, then CTRA would be the only racing league in the world, for both real stuff and sim racing! Is there really any need for an A4 sized logo though?
