Well they want to run other cars, that perhaps they feel, that they are 'better' in. Virtually every time this is not the case though and they are just as off pace as with the slower cars.

It's supposed to be tough, otherwise whats the point of having licenses to gain entry for league races if the licenses only mean that you had a long time on one particular server. It does not take long for a competitent driver to obtain new licenses. For the people that don't upgrade there is a reason, other than 'it's too hard'. Your not the caliber of driver thats wanted for the next license.

It's possible that your fast time for the race was not within the 106% of the record for the track that you need to be able to score points while the drivers behind you had faster times.

Quote from djgizmo68 :I Passed, and! been pulled 3 times since tuesday!, once for doing 35 in a 30 (How they determined 35 from 30, i dont know) once for my Foglights, aswell as being on with no fog, there yellow, apprently illegal, and once for my dam carbs playing up, causing my throttle to stick pulling off from the traffic lights, so, sorted of, speeding again.

Sounds like they are trying to get you for something =)

Fog lights are not supposed to be on unless it's foggy, " they can blind other motorists" is the official reasoning. Not sure about the yellow light, but I know headlights cannot be yellow so it's possible.

How old are you giz and what car do you drive?

Quote from Bean0 :You need to go through a reseller...UKFSN, ADSL24, Vivaciti.

I'm on the £19.99/month package with UKFSN, it's a residential service.
You get 30gb/month peak and 300gb/month off peak. Off peak is 2200-0800 and all weekends. It's an 'up to 8mb' line, I get about 600kb/sec speed down, and about 40kb/sec up.

http://www.ukfsn.org/home/internet/adsl/maxallowance.html

I signed onto UKFSN. Great service and cheap. I connect at the max rate any time of the day and never have had a problem with LFS or any online gaming since!!!

Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :The problem (since it's doubtful you understand) is not in the words themselves inherantly, it's in the ideas you use the word to communicate (since you want to play semantics). It's the ideas conveyed that are offensive, and meant to be, and they happen to be tied to words because -well- that's the point of language . Being called an anus is just as offensive as being called the more popular alternative, because they're synonymous and yet anus isn't usually regarded as a "swear word".

Generally speaking I'm of the opinion that abundant swearing (as opposed to the occasional outburst in dire circumstances) in real life basically just means that one cannot usually construct string of words together to affluently articulate what one needs to say. There is really no reason for it in LFS, and I wish that the master server had filters on it as well. Whenever I see someone swear online, the Moron light instantly illuminates in my head.

If I'm ever at a real LFS LAN event with BlueFlame, I'll be sure to remember that he feels alright about dishing out & receiving punches in the face

Couldn't have said it better myself!!!

IIRC the wind is randomized for each race with the cloud cover and track config set on rotation. I thought there was a lap randomization for each race too but I can't remember 100%.

Quote from SpikeyMarcoD :And yet did see a movie once where you were passing at least one of them??Must have been dreamin.

Meaning? =P There is a big difference in racing on the computer and RL, but the prinicples are still there. Will see next month if any of this pays off (heading to silverstone for the TRAX event) If my drag racing proves anything then it could be safe to say yes =) (ran 2.076 60' on street tires and a 13.8 with a good headwind(should have been a low 13.7 but ahwell) Most people are only getting a 14.0 out of the factory SRT-4.

I may be faster than them on the computer, but I would hope I would get my butt handed back to me on a silver plate by either of them on a real track.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :They have made more of that quote than there really is. I remember the full interview and that was part of a longer answer in which he says he is commited to Honda and is working well with the team and they are taking positive steps forward, but obviously he wants to be winning and doesn't see much point hanging around if there wasnt a possibility of winning in the future. Basically he is supporting Honda by saying that if he didn't think they could win championships in the future, he wouldn't be there.

Sounds like the press is at it again using their cut and paste feature on their word documents again...

Fun stuff! IMO should have been in the racing section but hey =)

I am heading to Silverstone for my first trackday in my car on the GP config. I can't wait! Been drag racing a few times but never actually done anything that my car was designed for.

This is one of the many issues with online play. It will take some time for drivers to get a handle on this, some will never. I think part of the problem is people still look at computer games, as well, computer games. What I mean is that they don't take into consideration other people as much as they should. Games should still be treated as a game, but because of multiplayer you have to treat people with a bit more respect.

I think with the CTRA more people will grasp these racing rules but it will never go away, especally on the lower tiered servers. All of my racing training in these rules came from online computer gaming so it is possible, as well as watching racing. I didn't have the luxury of Becky and do karting or have the funding to play with single seaters like Tristan =)

Quote from Rikje :Haven't read all of the reply's here but there is something I would like to add:

Whenever I run into a backmarker on the straight and eventually pass him sometimes they quickly get into my slipstream and them trying to overtake me. It's usually me who brakes a bit more to make sure he doesn't crash me off track. I even lost races cause of backmarkers doing this and eventually crash into me.

From what your describing this could be helped with a wrecker report so we can let these people know that this is not good practice to try to use a slipstream to pass someone a lap ahead of them in this manner. It's one thing for a lapped person to pass someone but another when trying to repass like this and it shouldn't happen.

Great idea Becky =)

I would like the wind to stay too. I think your right too Becky in saying that not many people have had experience in racing many tracks in the FOX or any single seater for that matter so there will be a steep learning curve for most people.

Quote from Becky Rose :I'm thinking of a few possible solutions at the moment:

The MRT is a possibility, although it could well kill the system.

A reduction of entries on the 1st tier down from 20 to about 17, this should alleviate some problems on the shorter tracks. 2nd and 3rd tiers to be amalgamated on a time sharing basis (ie: Race 2 to become part time STD/TBO and part time GT2/GTR with 32 cars & a similar system on Single 2).

Changing Single 1 to an intake restricted FOX training car. Dropping BF1 from Single 3 and putting FOX/FJR and FJR/FO8 on rotation on single 2.

I think it's most likely one of these changes is likely to occur soon.

A restricted FOX will help IMO. The replays I am seeing though has alot of people touching the grass and spinning so hopefully running slower cars will help this, but there is a possibility of making it worse with less downforce maybe? I donno.

Having setups available for download through the CTRA software would rock! I dont know if it would be possible though.

Well you are supposed to review the replay before submitting, the system is setup to allow for that. I am thinking that people are submitting a replay after the race has finished and before the race has restarted. Doing this sends the PREVIOUS race replay and not the current one thats still running until restart.

hehe yeah it's a few hours at least. I just put in 1h 30 and there are still a good couple hours worth of reports left.. cutting down on the reports would help a lot =)

Is it possible to let people know that the previous replay is from the race before the one they just finished? I am thinking thats what's happening with alot of these replays, I donno.

Would it be a possibility to create a tier below the FOX? There are sooo many drivers that are just appalling in the SS classes, they are veyr different from a tin top and people are forgetting that you can't actually hit anything in a SS and get away with it!

Quote from SamH :FTR, if anyone willingly wastes admin time by tit-for-tat reporting, there WILL be consequences. As it was with the old system, even MORE so with the new system, you report for GENUINE offences. Whatever WASTED time someone costs the admins, I'll make bloody sure it costs the time-waster in licence points and/or CTRA track time.

If you have something to report, report it. If you're not absolutely sure, then STORE your report, download and look at the replay yourself in MYCTRA. We've made it REALLY easy to do this stuff. If it's for anything other than a breach of CTRA rules or sub-standard driving or in-server behaviour, then there's nothing to report. If you can't decide immediately, you can store the report until you do.

Seconding Sam on this one. So far a good 1/2 of our reports have nothing on them, it is possible that people are getting confused with how the replay selection is done, but either way it takes a huge amount of time to review all the reports every day. So far I think it's over 1 hour a day for the admins to watch the reports submitted and with more people figuring out how the system works I expect this number to increase. 1 hour doesn't seem like much but you try to set aside a dedicated time each day for watching these replays =P

Quote from Becky Rose :Smeg isn't considered a swear word in English, oddly given it's meaning. So you can smegging smeg all you smegging like on the smegging CTRA smeggy smeg of a smegging server.

ROFL

I have banned people as well for swearing on the servers, short bans, but still swearing after multiple requests to stop deserves a ban.

FYI this isn't open for debate, you agree to not swear or say anything else that is vulgar or offensive to others or yourself while on the CTRA servers so we kindly ask not to. In the very extremes you could lose your license... permanently. We don't care if people think that it's 'mature' or not to be able to swear (personally it's childish, swear out loud if you have to and don't subject others to your words, chances are they saw you crash and know your feelings anyways, everyone else has been there too)

This game is a family type environment like Becky said (my 10 year old brother races with me now and then) so please don't and keep it to yourself.

All the talk here so far has been humorous and light hearted, just wanted to put a kabash to anything that might start up later =P

Yeah it's LHD, he didn't say anything. I think they see a few every month, he seemed very impressed though and said it was the best riding car he ever rode in (ACR edition, standard SRT-4's are a bit sloppy, but still the best handling FWD, but only just, if you exclude the works edition Mini)

I will get right on that =P you have 4 wheel struts or is the rear end torsion beam? GTI's are nice cars and probably have more creature comforts, but if you want a snarling, grunting, snapping and poping street machine the SRT is the way to go!

Struts are not ideal but man they make for a cheap car that handles decent =) These engines are amazing, most people are making over 400WHP on stock internals and driveline, thats crazy. Some people are over 500. There are drag racers running over 800 and even 1200 on a 2.6 bore kit! Can't beat a factory car that the turbo starts to spool at 1600! Full boost(14SPI) around 2000. Soo much fun =)
